This helped me this morning. I was having trouble dealing with the US election, even after weeks of trying to keep it in perspective. With Christmas gatherings coming up I need to attain equanimity to deal with the rifts amongst family and friends.

Thank you Rick! I met you in the early 2000’s when you worked with Dr. Mendius. I later read Buddha’s Brain. I’m happy to find you online teaching. This talk was helpful to me just now. I appreciate you. I look forward to more. 🙏🏽

Thank you so much. I feel hope again--I know that I can keep going, though at times, my spirit wants to quit. I won't quit. I'll keep recycling and donating to causes that make the world a better place. .And thanks for the teachings over the years. I share several of your practices with my college-aged meditation students.

The monk was Palden Gyatso, you can read his autobiography. The meeting between him and DL took place in Dharamsala, India where the DL resides.

One person mentioned Palden Gyatso as the monk who was held captive for decades. The very same thing happened to another Tibetan monk who also had a book written about him. His name was Tendzin Tcheudrak (or Choedrak). The book is called "Le Palais des Arcs-en-Ciel" (published in French, not sure if it was published in English).

Thank you for giving me tools to work on my well being.
The movie you referenced, I believe is Invictus. I heard a great summary of Mandela’s equanimity in Mission Joy (and companion Book of Joy.
