OMG!!!! Never in my life have I heard anyone react to Loreena McKennitt! Thank you Adam, and THANK YOU to the person who hassled you into it LOL. I LOVE her and have been lucky enough to see her in concert twice. She is just as good in concert as she is in recordings. She writes and sings songs that are based on different historical tales and times; many of her songs are old stories or poems put to music (The Lady of Shalott, Greensleaves, etc.). Her version of Dark Night of the Soul is based on a poem written by the 16th-century Spanish mystic and poet St. John of the Cross, and is one of my favourite songs of hers--she is inspired by different cultures and the literature they have inspired. Actually, I've met her--she's a very unique person (she knows my dad, it has nothing to do with me...:) Thank you!!!!!!
I've been pushing her at different reactors, along with other artists, at various times. I hope it has gotten across. It looks like there's about 10 reaction videos to her on RUclips, now. But some of them were up before I came in.
Blast from the past. Memories of me walking around with my discman at the turn of the millennium listening to Loreena McKennitt, Clannad and Enja. I still have the CD's, although I havn't had a CD player for more than a decade. Further listening would include Dante's Prayer, The Mummurs' dance, The Highwayman (for the story) and The Old Ways (that has a special place in my heart). Oh man, sometimes I am overwhelmed by grief for all the music I have forgotten but once loved so dearly. I guess you really can't see all the beauty of this world and keep it too.
Reading your post made me feel like I could have practically written it myself. The discman, too! I had a discman that claimed to be skip-proof, but I still always had to jog slow whenever I wore it. Lol! Love the songs you mentioned. Loreena McKennitt's ability to take a melancholy moment, or idea, or story and elevate it to something transcendently beautiful -- while still embracing the melancholy core *as* beautiful -- somehow digs powerfully deep into your soul. I feel it every time. The Old Ways I just rediscovered last year. Events led me to want to hear it again, and it was more gentle and powerful than I even remembered it being. And very healing. Dante's Prayer too. One thing I'd add to your list though is "The Lady of Shallott". Springtime is simply not springtime, until I have listened to that on a cool, bright, partly cloudy day. Which reminds me, I should start looking for those CD's!
Adam, if you ever get the chance to watch the parts of (or even better the complete) concert of her in the spanish Alhambra, you will get blown away by that incredible performance. It's one of the few concerts for that I would have given everything to be there, if I only had known early enough that it would happen ... sadly I learnt about years after the happening. (sorry for any grammar errors in my comment, I'm still learning english)
Snow will blow your mind. In concert she has Powerhouse vocals. Don’t be fooled by just one song. Incredible vocalist surrounded by top Caliber musicians .
20 years after I heard “Stolen Child” the first time(wait, has it really been that long?!), her voice still carries me away. “Old Ways” is my favorite, but I can’t think of a song I’ve heard that I didn’t enjoy.
Wonderful selection and reaction. She is one of my favorites in world music. She has so many influences from her travels around the world, Celtic, middle eastern, etc. Please consider playing and reacting to my favorite - “The Mummers’ Dance”, where she plays the accordion. She is also proficient on harp and piano.
Cool choice for a reaction! What’s fascinating about Loreena is just how many genres and sub-genres she explores. Her catalogue can be broken down into traditional-sounding Celtic/Irish music, Middle Eastern music, and piano ballads, plus combinations of all three. But it’s also so much more. She describes her music as a form of “travel writing”, developed as she’s studied the history of the Celtic tribes from Europe through Asia and everywhere in between (thus the strong Middle Eastern influences as her albums progressed over the years). On top of that, she’ll write and compose haunting original songs (like this one), but also just as well adapt a centuries-old melody or poem to song, even from the likes of Shakespeare himself. Oh, and she also plays harp, piano, and accordion, is her own manager, and is the only artist on her own record label, 100% controlling her own career in all aspects from the beginning (record labels famously bowed to her wishes and terms when they offered to help with distribution when her career really started to take off). Her music truly takes you to another place, and she has a song for every mood. Want some Celtic ethereal peace? Courtyard Lullaby. Want to break your heart and put it back together? Dante’s Prayer. Want to bellydance? Marco Polo. Want an ancient Celtic/Eastern bonfire festival? All Souls Night. Want an Irish breakup by the ocean? The Old Ways. Want a slow, hypnotizing camel ride through the desert? The Gates of Istanbul. And those are all just individual examples out of her countless songs that take you to equally amazing times and places. Welcome to an amazing new musical world like no other! :)
An amazing artist! Great singing and songwriting with awesome arrangements. I would also look to an artist like Dougie Maclean who also defied the odds by running and operating his own record company Dunkeld Records and forging a very successful career.
Welcome to the Lorena McKennitt experience. She has been one of my go to artist, when I'm feeling stressed or out of place, to just ground me to earth for years now. Her live stuff is magical. You can't go wrong with her music. Give "All Souls Night" a try.
Thanks for reacting to Loreena McKennitt. She is a long time favorite of mine. In retrospect, it isn't that surprising that you enjoyed this. You pretty much can't go wrong with a single track on this album. Each is excellent in its own way. Several of her songs from other albums, especially The Mummer's Dance, have been used in part on various movie trailers over the years, so you may hear bits that sound familiar. Along the lines of this kind of music I suspect you would like, if you haven't already heard them, would be Dead Can Dance. Tremendous amount of varied, traditional intruments from all over the world with lots of different influences.
YES, I am so here for this!! I bumped a comment awhile back that suggested Loreena McKennitt, and while I mainly stick to your Aurora and Wardruna reactions, "Mystic's Dream" came to mind as one you'd enjoy. So glad you did! As others have said, you really can't go wrong with any of _The Mask and the Mirror_ album; I'm highly partial to _The Book of Secrets_ , too which has a few of the popular next song requests in comments. "The Mummers' Dance" is a classic, more upbeat in general. "Full Circle" is stunning and soothing, "The Highwayman" introduced me to the poem and... pulls no punches, but that's why I love it. "The Bonny Swans" is a fascinating story that goes very fantasy. I also listen to Clannad, an Irish folk band (with Enya, in early years) and realized their song, "Two Sisters", was the same story, but without the fantasy elements.
I second all the calls to "Dead Can Dance", too. Anything from their _Toward The Within_ live album. Lisa Gerrard singing "The Wind That Shakes The Barley" (which Loreena has also sang) is absolutely chilling.
Great reaction. I was lucky enough to she her live back in the late 90's in NYC, NY. It was a fantastic concert. I went alone and had such great time. Thank you again for your reaction. Loved it💖💖💖 🌜🌝🌛
I was so excited to find Loreena McKennitt in your reactions! I discovered her in 1991 pursuing the music store for new music and found her CD The Visit. Before the internet, finding new music was not as easy but yet we both found her. I can not think of a particular song to recommend to react to because they are are all so good
Its so good to hear someone react to other than mainstream music. I have her on a playlist with Avi Kaplans Otherside then Tyler Ramsey's 1000Blackbirds. Its one of my favorite passages . Thanks for this lovely reaction.
Chills. Every. Damn. Time. She’s one of my favorites of all time! Incredible singer, songwriter & musician. May I humbly suggest “Balulalow” it was recorded in an old church. Pretty much a cappella. Chilling🔥🔥🔥
I love her so so much! I'm really happy that you discovered her cos she just bring so much beauty in this world. "The Mummers Dance" and "Dante's Prayer" are my favorite songs of hers. I think you would like "Dead Can Dance" too. They very otherworldly and spiritual in a good way and their music kind of feels similar to Loreenas.
I came to your channel because of Pentatonix, but Loreena McKennitt has been my favourite artist for even longer! My playlist truly only consists out of PTX and her. I've never seen anyone react to her music! You could watch a video of one of her live performances because it's amazing to see her play the harp and sing live.
This isn't the music I normally listen to, but I have fond memories of it being played in the car as a kid , drifting to sleep on the way home from visiting friends. It is quite beautiful.
I got to see here in concert while promoting this album. At one point just her head was lit by the lighting and she looked like hare hair was on fire. Just awesome.
You looked like you had an religious experience :) Valid reaction, though. I've been listening to The Fairy for decades and she still has that effect on me , even more so in her concerts. They are magical. I loved watching you go on that journey with her. How you adjusted your posture, your face telling exactly when a new element came into play. Thank you for doing this and welcome to the enchanted woods of The Fairy.
My faves are Bonny Portmore and still at number one for me 27 years later is the song Bonny Swans because the story adapted in it was told to me as a child (Irish and Scottish heritage)
Other excellent songs by Loreena I'd recommend to you would be: The Old Ways Stolen Child The Highwayman Skellig Dante's Prayer And a guilty pleasure of mine, To The Fairies They Draw Near from the first Tinkerbell film! These aren't listed in a particular order cause I love all of them just the same!
It was so fun to watch you discover her today! I am always telling people about her she is an absolute angel songstress ! I almost cried when I could tell that you were really digging it. You should definitely listen to a lot more from her. But I feel as if I would be remiss in not mentioning the absolute perfection of the people who pay these wonderful songs with her. They are all outstanding musicians and should be celebrated for their talents! Also her music is wonderful for a lullaby for children I have learned and for me LOL! I find her incredibly relaxing to listen to in a way that nothing else works especially when I’m scared of the monster in the closet, ha ha. Honestly wonderful music & review🥇🏆
If you're wanting to try some old rock slash pop you might want to go for something like bangtango the front, and any of the Beastie boy albums! also White zombie is excellent and Soundgarden and of course system of a down! I don't know if you have heard any of these or like them at all, but who knows?
A song a lot of people are neglecting in the comments is her song Ancient Pines. It has no real lyrics, but it is transportive. Close your eyes while listening and it just pulls you somewhere else. It is soooo beautiful. Edit: she was the narrator and performed the main song in the first Tinkerbell movie, and also has a song "Bells of Christmas" that is used in The Santa Claus.
Amazing artist! Been listening to Loreena for years. This song is on the 'Mist Of Avalon' soundtrack. A fun tidbit about that movie... The lead actress, Julianna Margulies, graduated from the same high school I attended just before I got there. Glad you reacted to Loreena. She's a rare talent.
I absolutely love, how you are feeling the music. And I can only agree with another comment...FINALLY someone reacting to Loreena! I highly recommend the song "Moon Cradle"
The liner notes were xtensive with history, images, even the paper looked worn and had terpenes added to convey the aroma of books- the smell of antiquity. If you can find the cd, smell the liner notes it smells like the library in dublin.
Loreena McKennitt is one of my favorit composers and artists. A wonderful singer with a voice of an angel. I have hade the great privelidge to have seen her in several concerts. 2006 Alhambre Granada Spain...Copenhagen 2007...London 2012 and Edingburugh 2019. Thanks for the reaction!!
I’ve heard this a number of times on my Pandora streaming service, and I thought she was an established artist and I didn’t expect anyone to react to it. I thought it was kind of niche music that wouldn’t appeal to the masses. I’m glad we share some of the same musical tastes.
Thank you Adam for reacting to her, she's one of my favorites. She has one of the most beautiful voices "enchanting is a perfect adjective. I've been lucky enough to see her in concert. Your reaction was great to watch it probably much like mine when I first heard her.
This is far and away the most sensual song I've ever heard. Love Loreena. Another favorite is The Bonnie Swans, but the whole The Mask and Mirror is excellent.
Thank you for using this cut from Loreena's song collection. I love Celtic music and Loreena and Enya are my favorites. This is one of my very favorite songs of hers.
That was so good first timer for me. Sounds lot like the group clannad and even little enya and Aurora. Definitely in my alley. 10 points. No overhyped artist and i like that and you are as usualy doing a solid reaction. Thanks Adam. 💚💚💚
This comment might be a little late for you to read, but I hope you do, as I'm a long time, huge Loreena fan as her music captured my heart back in 94. I suggest listening to every song of hers, if you haven't already! Her music is based off of Celtic and Arabic songs and rhythms, hence the catchy drum beat. It blew me away hearing dumbeks with a harp and cello! She was asked to write the music for The Lord of the Rings, but turned it down as she is the owner of her recording career and was too busy. She did write and sing a song for the Tinkerbell movie. Please watch "The Movable Musical Feast". Loreena highlights her career and who she is and how she thinks. She's the most humbled musician I know. Nothing about Loreena reminds me of Enya. Maybe because when I listen to Loreena my mind, creativity, opens up and with Enya I just listen. Loreena makes the wheels in my head turn, turn so much I published a novel called, "Karmann Krist's Zylophila" which I'm intending to turn into a trilogy. The Highwayman song started a story in my head and all I could do was write it down. I reincarnated The Highwayman and his beloved Bess. I'm glad you have found Loreena and enjoy listening to her. Have a beautiful day!
You are so right Gina Mason. It was an absolute joy to read your comment about your love for Loreena McKennitt’s music. I’m a huge fan too and I simply adore her. She is my muse🎼. I’ve seen her two times in my life and hopefully I will have the opportunity to see her perform again. 🙏🏼
I first saw her in concert on 5/14/98 at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco and fell in love with her music. It was amazing to see her perform with a large band with all this different instruments including the harp that she played along with the piano. I saw her again on 3/9/16 in Mesa, Arizona and again was flawless. Thank you for playing her music!
Oh, nice reaction, she is great artist. :) From celtic music I love french breton artist Cécile Corbel, she made music in genres like folk, folk pop, sometimes more pop, I love her version of song "Brian Boru". She is singer and she play on celtic harp. Celtic music is very beautiful, the most I like song "Siúil a Rún", beautiful folk song. But my favourite version of this song is by japanese artist Kokia, she is incredible, you should listen her, my favourite song by her is "Il Mare Dei Suoni", especially live version from History tour 2012.
Been listening to Loreena since her single cassette came out. I believe that this was the B side to Mummers dance. Listened to it religiously. Amazing voice. Fantastic video sir!!
I have read that this particular album Loreena McKennitt uses Middle Eastern influences in her music, and as I lover of such regions and Loreena's music, I hear the sound of the zills (or sagat - finger cymbal) as the higher pitch "ding" sound, as well as the Spanish castanets mixed over the drum beats. I think you've described it perfectly as her voice being enchanting while she tells us a story from what seems long ago. I am also a Pagan and have felt the call to create a ritual dance to this beautiful composition. And after listening to "Mystic's Dream" for over a decade...it still fills me with overpowering emotions every time I hear it. The timeless Gregorian chanting by the male voices, the instruments, Loreena's otherworldly singing, and the poetic lyrics...it's a musical work of art
Cool! Loreena McKennitt is still one of my faves. Her music changed my life somehow. When I visited Ireland, I kept listening to her music on my iPod while sightseeing. Greeting from Guatemala.
My wife has wanted to see a Loreena McKennitt concert for many year, but for whatever reason, was unable to attend. We have tickets for her October '23 concert in Grand Rapids, Michigan and are both looking forward to the experience.
She has a good Moroccan/Celtic/medieval vibe. Her best songs, in no particular order, imho, are: The Mummer's Dance The Two Trees Anachie Gordon Moon Cradle Skellig Standing Stones The Bonny Swans
Love love love, enters through your ears, then like a vine just travels through your entire being. Fantabulous absolute. Thank you Adam always lots of love.❤🎙🎶🎶🎶😊💯
Loreena is a brilliant artist and musical anthropologist. Her music is a magnificent rabbit hole of magnificent, magical music. Ancient, traditional musical instruments. Thank you.
I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this song by Loreena McKennitt, but “Prospero’s Speech” is one of my favorites! And of course “The Highway Man”!! I’ve listened to her since I was little! My dad would play her and lots of other Celtic music! “Marrakesh Night Market”, “Tango to Evora”, …they’re all so beautiful!
Yes, Loreena McKennitt has been a favourite of mine for over 20 years! The song that pops into my mind first is All Souls Night. ...but really, SO many fantastic songs, hard to go wrong with any of them.
Wow! That was a trip, Adam. Enjoyable piece of art. I really appreciate your comments. I am an old man, 70, who is a huge Morissette fan. I think you need to get into KZ Tandingan , another incredible Philippine artist and performer. Try her 2018 SInger performance of Rolling in the Deep to get started. You can thank me later.
When I first heard her my mom and I were walking through a bookstore in mystic and once this came on we looked at eachother and were like who is this omg loved her ever since most of her albums are stunning Just saw her live last night in Medford mass and her voice live was incredible
My first exposure to Lorena was at St Lawrence Market in Toronto Canada. She was a busker there promoting her tapes. Yes, tapes, per CD. I have them and every CD, seen her 5 times and loved her wiry every note musical and vocal….
If you haven't reacted to Dead can Dance - Rakim, you might really enjoy it. It's been delightful to watch your expressions, Adam, as you revel in discovering music that has been part of my own soundtrack for so long. Subscribed. :)
Love Loreena! The Highwayman is a track I often listen too to wind down after a night of DJing. That would be my suggestion, but really all of her music is lovely.
This is my favorite Loreena Mckennitt song..I first heard her on the movie trailer for the Drew Barrymore movie 'Ever After.' If you can find a good quality one, you ought to check out a live version of Imogen Heap doing 'Just for Now!' She is a wizard with looping her ethereal vocals. 😍
OMG!!!! Never in my life have I heard anyone react to Loreena McKennitt! Thank you Adam, and THANK YOU to the person who hassled you into it LOL. I LOVE her and have been lucky enough to see her in concert twice. She is just as good in concert as she is in recordings.

@SOCIAL MEDIA IS THE WORST Wow, way to make my day 😳.
Loreena and her superb band are touring right now. I was blessed to see her a couple weeks ago. Just amazing.
Dude, she’s amazing. Totally transported to a different time and place. A dear friend played viola de gamba in her ensemble.

The concert is incredible!
Agree. My favorite live performance so far. The acoustics were splendid and her voice made magic that night.
Long-time Lareena McKennitt fan. I second all the suggestions below. She's magnificent, varied, imagintive, original. Thanks for reacting to this!
Snow will blow your mind. In concert she has Powerhouse vocals. Don’t be fooled by just one song. Incredible vocalist surrounded by top Caliber musicians .
Saw her in concert. She’s amazing!
If I were to choose a song to be played at my funeral, it would be Loreena's song "Dante's Prayer."
When my aunt passed away, Dante’s Prayer really helped me.
Me too, that or apotheosis by Brian wintory
Excellent choice! It's also on my list of songs I'd like played at mine.
I played it at my Dad's funeral.
Michelle Kwan skated to Dante’s Prayer at the Olympics when she won her medal.
This takes me back. She's been one of my favorite singers for ages! Another singer whose music takes you on a journey of the imagination.
20 years after I heard “Stolen Child” the first time(wait, has it really been that long?!), her voice still carries me away. “Old Ways” is my favorite, but I can’t think of a song I’ve heard that I didn’t enjoy.

Welcome to an amazing new musical world like no other! :)
you forgot Gregorian chants
@@croissant4131 haha, I grouped those in with with Celtic and more Western stuff versus the Eastern.
An amazing artist! Great singing and songwriting with awesome arrangements.
I would also look to an artist like Dougie Maclean who also defied the odds by running and operating his own record company Dunkeld Records and forging a very successful career.
Her versatility is similar to Angelina Jordan

Give "All Souls Night" a try.
Thanks to you and to whoever requested this song. Loreena's music always has such an ethereal sound. It just carries one away to another world.

Loreena McKennitt is a unique vocal story teller with a voice that rings like a bell in her performances.

And a guilty pleasure of mine, To The Fairies They Draw Near from the first Tinkerbell film!
These aren't listed in a particular order cause I love all of them just the same!
Add Full Circle, The Two Trees and Dark night of the Soul, and we might have the same playlist. 😁
Oh, I can't forget the Uke-meister Jake Shimabukuro! Absolutely awesome in concert as well
A song a lot of people are neglecting in the comments is her song Ancient Pines.
On the contrary, she had a hit in ‘97 that hit the top 20 on pop charts!
Her music is like a journey to different places that existed long ago.
Thank you Adam for reacting to her, she's one of my favorites. She has one of the most beautiful voices "enchanting is a perfect adjective. I've been lucky enough to see her in concert. Your reaction was great to watch it probably much like mine when I first heard her.
Wow. Haven't heard her in years :)
This is far and away the most sensual song I've ever heard. Love Loreena. Another favorite is The Bonnie Swans, but the whole The Mask and Mirror is excellent.
As an aside, find out how she managed herself, her music and her career. It's unique.
Knew her and she is so fantastic!!! Her voice is just so mesmerizing! ♥️♥️♥️
Goosebumps! Wow do I love this song and the imagery it evokes
she did the sound track to Highlander.. Bonny Portmore
I absolutely love her. My favorites include “Dante’s Prayer”, “The Never-Ending Road” & “ The Mummer’s Dance”.
A personal favourite of hers is definitely All Souls Night. And of course The Lady of Shalott.
If you go down this road, you will fill your soul with Celtic music! Loreena is most wonderful! Cheers!
Beautiful review Adam! I was looking for a Loreena McKennitt reaction and so glad I found your channel. Thank you!
Thank you! I really need to do more to her amazing music!
All her stuff is great but one of my favs is All Souls Night.
Oh, nice reaction, she is great artist. :)
From celtic music I love french breton artist Cécile Corbel, she made music in genres like folk, folk pop, sometimes more pop, I love her version of song "Brian Boru".
Thank you so much for this reaction Adam ❤ Have not heard this song in a long time ❤ Loved every second of it ❤
Angel 🎶💜🎼💜🎤 Beautiful music and song !! Thanks for the video 🍀 Amazing interpretation 👌👏👍
She is absolutely wonderful. I was able to finally see her in concert a few years ago, it was amazing to see and hear her.
I will be seeing her in OCT in VA. And it is a bucket list concert for me. I CAN NOT WAIT....
Her best songs, in no particular order, imho, are:
The Mummer's Dance
The Two Trees
Anachie Gordon
Moon Cradle
Skellig
Standing Stones
The Bonny Swans
Love love love, enters through your ears, then like a vine just travels through your entire being. Fantabulous absolute. Thank you Adam always lots of love.❤🎙🎶🎶🎶😊💯
Glad to see you are reacting to her work. Her music is very spiritual and transcending
Thank you! Ive been looking for reaction for this genre. Celtic Woman is another group i love.
Her music has been used in many movies and television shows. Her song Tango to Evora was used by the Canadian Travel Bureau as their official song.
Love her, got to finally see her when she did a tour in Canada/US I wasn't going to miss it for the world.
This song was also used in a film called the mists of avalon based on the book of the same name from the early 2000`s
You made exactly the same face as I did when I first heard this song so many years ago. Just absolutely sublime, isn't it?
This is one of my favorites of all time. When I close my eyes to this it takes me to another beautiful place of dreams and ❤️ love.
Just love this reaction, had a similar one a decade ago when i first head her.... just love her music.
Listen to her entire catalog, but her album "The Visit" is a good place to start, and was her first big album. Also her Christmas album is the best.
Listen to all of her music. She is fabulous.
My first exposure to Lorena was at St Lawrence Market in Toronto Canada. She was a busker there promoting her tapes. Yes, tapes, per CD. I have them and every CD, seen her 5 times and loved her wiry every note musical and vocal….
Wow that’s amazing!
And she is AMAZING in concert too! It's like being in another world.
Clicked so fast, because of big n. o. s. t. a. l. g. i. a.!
I would recommend also her "Caravanserai" and "Penelope song" from album Ancient Muse.
I've never seen anyone react to Lorena before cool
I love watching the reactions after hearing Loreena McKennitT for the first time.
I love all of her songs but Bonney portmore...i can't remember how to spell it...her vocal range and clarity is so magic!
I can't listen to Bonny Portmore without crying.
This song was used in the movie Jade.
Her work was used in the movie ' The Mists of Avalon' and takes one on a journey to a time of mysticism. Live at the Alhambra h is enchanting
The movies that you may have heard her sing in are the Highlander movies, the song Bonny Portmore
You definitely need to check out her songs The Old Ways and Dante's Prayer.
if you get the chance see her and her little orchestra live, do it! nights from the Alhambra is immersive Mckennitt
It has been in the soundtrack of several shows/movies, including The Mists of Avalon.
I like music that takes its time to unfold, like a profound ceremony.
