    Had both of them here for testing. They gave me a hard time deciding between the two.
    The Jbls have the better stereo separation. It was easier to differnciate between instruments and while watching movie or gameplay scenes the sound felt more immersive and and "detailed".
    I could here small sounds like the clacking of shoes on a street or the opening of a door within a movie. Just because the Jbls showed everything.
    The Krks on the other hand sound way clearer. And I mean like way clearer. Everytime I went back to the Jbls I felt like someone put a piece of cloth in my ear.
    So the decision was difficult. Clarity vs stereo separation. Try to imagine deciding between a big TV Screen that wraps around you and a smaller one in front of you. Only thing is the first Tv is 720p and the second one is 1080p.
    In the end I went for clarity and chose the KRKs.

      I know that the frequency graphs are quite similar, but there's something that sounds scooped about the JBLs. They're like anti-Yamaha HS5s. The KRK sounds like they have some of the annoying mids still in there that you want when mixing, without going overboard like the Yamahas.

  • @MrKockabilly

    These are studio monitors. They are more intended for creators for sound mixing and not for end-use audiophile entertainment. So a more "pleasing" sound is not actually their main deliverable. Clarity is of course critical as well as true reproduction and frequency response but these are not the kind of speakers for end-use entertainment. They are in fact intended to be a little flat and generic so that the final mix result would be more adaptable to a variety of hifi/audiophile audio systems that the listener would use eventually.

    • @steviesteve750
      @steviesteve750 2 года назад +3

      If you're an audiophile, you'll lsrheky be looking for accuracy, not pleasing colouration. I don't mix much music, but I bought krk for my office music system because I want a flat response as a starting point, then use dsp to correct for my room. No hi fi speakers I've ever owned come close to that tunability, so for me there is no difference. Studio is hifi.

    • @MrKockabilly
      @MrKockabilly 2 года назад +3

      @@steviesteve750 Exactly, "flat" response in its true form is "real sound reproduction". And that's what "real" audiophiles want. Unfortunately the speakers that end-users listen to are just the final equipment in a long process of delivering that actual guitar or drums sound to our living rooms.
      So what you hear - whether you use studio monitors or standard hifi monitors - are already products of sound mixing by those sound people who worked behind the scenes more to correct discoloration - not to add coloration - to make that CD sound possible before they are released.
      Anyway it's true, there is not much difference for end-users assuming the sound sources are already excellent to begin with (I use studio monitors myself for listening pleasure, I have both the KRK and JBL) but definitely behind-the-scenes sound engineers would never use standard hifi speakers without the "monitor" word in them in their trade.

    • @kontoname
      @kontoname Год назад

      @@MrKockabilly I assume you have zero experience in audio and just came across this video by chance. There's only one purpose of a speaker: it's to reproduce the sound as closely as possible. Everything else can be changed by choosing the right dimensions, equalizer settings, DSP etc.
      Your creators / end-user argument makes little to absolutely no sense at all.
      What's the real difference is the choice you have to make. Do you WANT to sit in a stereo triangle? Do you WANT an active pair or do you want to power them from a central unit? Do you want the sound level required for them to work or do you want much louder or quieter sound?

  • @MrRocktuga
    @MrRocktuga 3 месяца назад

    You can’t go wrong with either one, but I ended up buying the KRKs more than one year ago, and never looked back.
    That plastic baffle on the JBLs make them look cheap, and the switches feel like they came from the previous century when compared to the KRKs.
    And the anechoic measurements show that the JBLs are not better than the KRKs (just slightly different on where their major defects are in the frequency spectrum).
    Several reviewers in the pro market ended up preferring the Rockits, because they’re not only accurate (specially for this price point), but also fun (which is something that can’t always be said with small studio monitors, even more so at this price range).
    The only downside for me is that upgrading them will require stepping up to a whole different price range, as both the JBLs and KRKs seem to have a better integration between these small woofers and the tweeter than the 8 inch versions (making that transition right at the crossover range demands a lot more quality from both the woofers and tweeters, which doesn’t come cheap.
    The next step for me is something like the Neumann KH 120 II or Genelec 8030c, which definitely have a much more linear frequency response, along with a clearer presentation (much lower harmonic distortion).
    But even those will clearly need a good subwoofer if full-range sound (20-20.000 Hz) is needed.
    The fact is that these two monitors redefined what’s possible with such a low budget, while embarrassing most of its competitors at this price and even a bit higher.
    They both aim for a linear response, while most of the other well-known brands aim for boosted responses, until you reach much higher price points in their lineup, making you feel that you don’t deserve better until you reach those price brackets.
    In the end, you can definitely get much better monitors, but be prepared to double the budget (at least).

    I have worked on both monitor models. Their sound is very different from what is on the video. I can share my findings.
    Krk provokes you to add the 6-8 kHz frequency range to the mix, and subtract the 300-700 Hz range. As a result, your mix is thin and too sonorous.
    JBL has only one drawback - the 13-15 kHz frequency range sounds brighter than it actually is. In all other respects - excellent monitors. At high volumes, they also work dynamically and honestly.

      @@hm829 First of all, keep in mind, as a sound engineer, I don't recommend you mix or master, you either mix or master, don't do both for the same track ,
      Another thing is regardless of what monitor you use, if your room is bad, your monitors will also sound bad or not translate, make sure you get some accoustic panels (not foam) at least one behind each monitor, and on your first reflection points, foam can be used for far back in the room where you may have some high frequencies reflecting ,
      Make sure you get stands so that the monitors aren't directly on your desk, they need to be ear height with tweeters pointed towards your ear and equal distance apart from eachother so when you sit in the middle with your head, it makes a triangle,
      I'd go for the JBLs personally, for the size and price they're very honest, also take a look at the Cali Audio In8's
      You can also buy some pre owned Genelecs , Dynaudios, anyway, the JBL LSR are great little monitors and you can use them even when you upgrade to a more expensive system as a great second opinion, they sound very good , they aren't monitors which will lie to you, but their size has limitations, so make sure to use reference tracks and learn them well!

      @@DSAUDIOreview thank you very much sir . Also , sir , I want to tell you something that almost 1 month ago I had purchased M-audio bx5d3 , so when I placed that monitors on my desk which is almost against the wall ( just 3-4" gaps ) , I experienced that the sound coming from the speakers are never clear to me , even boomy , muddy and not getting any midrange and after few minutes of listening I feel ear fatigue problems . However , after turn -4db switch , then it was a little correction from , but regarding whole experience I felt very bad for M-audio bx5d3 pairs .
      However I sold it to my freinds .
      So , today , that's why I want to make sure myself.
      Please sir , make a reply.

    У KRK, при некоторой схожести АЧХ, не хватает объемности звучания, звук очень далек от оригинала. JBL не оставляет конкуренту никаких шансов.

      Кстати разыгрались KRK, но порой кажется что-то как чуть зажато в серединке. Но к ним нужен хороший кабель, я поменял ProAudio на Canare с золотыми ньютриками и небо и земля. Хорошие мониторчики, использую как колонки дома) Эти KRK однозначно лучше Pioneer S-DJ50X, те черезчур басят и слишком сухо играют.

      depends on the cables. either xlr to trs or trs to trs (for audiointerfaces with trs connection), these cables go into an audio interface, and then to your computer via audio jack.

    Hye everyone ! I need some help to make my choice. I'm looking for good afordable speaker. I've been searching for a while and this channel help me a lot (thank you for your work) My budget is quite low so i made a selection of few products that can interest me for the price.
    My expectations and future use :
    i'm guitarist and i play on a br 800 (boss multipiste) i don't have any amp and i play mainly with headphones for now. So i'm looking for something that can have a good restitution of sound. Most of the time drum pattern, guitars and bass part done with an octaver .style : from english rock, stonner,punk,metal. I don't have laptop so the mixing part for the moment is really minimal. I may as well use the speakers ocasionally to watch movies and everyday to listen music in general so i want something quite polivalent at the same time.
    My options:
    Where i live at the moment the edifier r1280bd 125$ , the presonus 3.5 cost 150$ than the 4.5 250$ and the r1700bt 200$
    My conclusion and questions :
    i like the connection options on the edifier over the eris. i enjoy both for sound quality according to your videos. The eris 3.5 seem to have a better balance sound but a lake of bass and the edifier r1280 sound more hifi EQ. Predominant middle for the bd and a gape in the middle for the T.
    Both big brother's edifier and eris sound pretty good to me but in different way. A bit afraid by the eris hiss.
    What do you think will be the best for the use i will have ?
    I will install it in a room aprox 15 square meters so do you think it's really necessary to get over my budget to get an eris 4.5 or a 1700bt ?
    Hope to have help from you soon.
    Thank you !

      Than I think R1700BT is Your best bet. It has very low hiss level, has Bluetooth and fair price. Just lower the treble and a bit of bass as well for more natural sound and You will be at home
