Genuinely brought a tear to my eye watching this. Visiting BGC every summer for 12/13 years was the highlight of the holidays during the 80s. It was a secret world (including the whole of iow) I could never explain to my friends back in Manchester. Some amazing memories of being with my siblings and parents for hours and hours into the evening. The Wild West area I could stay in all night. Me and my siblings are taking a nostalgia trip in two weeks and we’ll be staying in caravans and visiting BGC, it’s partly why I found your video. I know it won’t be the same but I’m genuinely welling up now thinking of it and my daughter experiencing the magic herself and wishing my own father was still here to enjoy it with us. Thanks for the special video.
What fantastic memories, I can relate to these blackgang chine memories too. Enjoy your nostalgia trip. A lot has been removed in the last decade with no explanation. Humpty dumpty is getting a repaint at the moment so fingers crossed he's back on his wall for your visit. I still visit yearly and am writing a book on the park in my free time.
fantastic, it was so magical at night with all the lights on, my uncle was a coach driver and often took me along with the holiday makers. I miss it how it used to be, I spent a year working in buffalo creek which was hard work but fun. i wish i had a time machine but this is the closest thing. thanks
This is how I will always fondly remember Blackgang Chine from various school visits and family holidays. More and more of the old attractions have been stripped away - the weather wizard, liquorice factory, wishing chair, knome garden to name just a few. My favourite the Crooked House is still there, but look what they have done to it !
Oh wow, what a fantastic find! Blackgang exactly like my childhood memories of the place. I was 12 when this was filmed, and boy i used to have fun there. Thanks so much for putting this up, fantastic to see. I can now show my grandchildren what Blackgang used to be like.
Wonderful! My Grandparents lived on the Isle of Wight and this brings back so many memories. I was 8 that year and remember it all. The cowboy town was our favourite and we'd spend hours just in that part. It is not the same as it was and so sad that all the old pathways have gone, but we still go back every few years with our kids, and I still love it. Thanks for loading this up.
yep I'm doing the illuminations, got free tickets from blackgang chine for lending them some of my cine film. so if you are visiting we are all doing the Saturday night
Fantastic film and in great condition for its age, i almost forgot about the twisted mirrors it made me laugh seeing them again after all this time , , hahaha, shame it's not like that today, , , all the shrubs neatly trimmed towards the cove, , great film again there sir . thanx 4 the upload.
Wow! I went on holiday with my parents to IOW in Summer '78 (I turned eleven in the August). I recently watched a BBC holiday show in RUclips from same period, but this is better. Thank you.
Great views 4:46 - 4:53 and sunset over Freshwater at the end. Love those Western gravestones. Could that be The Ship Ashore peeking in the background at 5:36?
Did Buffalo Creak disappear due to a landslide? Remember climbing on the big horse with my two children... my husband took photographs of us... 1988 I think. Gonna try and find those pics feeling nostalgic now!
Buffalo creek was moved further up the hill after a lot of land movement in 1994. Most of it has been reused, and added too since then. If you are on Facebook try joining the group "blackgang chine memories " loads on there.
This makes me feel so sad. The Blackgang Chine of my childhood has gone forever. I was having a conversation with my Mum the other day and she told me all the pathways down into the trees were magical. The views are still there but it has lost it's quirky originality!

I'd completely forgotten about the coloured water lights shown at 0:52. Instantly remembered how much I Ioved them when I saw them though.

+ISLE OF WIGHT ARCHIVE Thx for pointing those out! I'm gonna have funny dreams now...
2:23 i wish they'd kept these when doing the new dinosaur exhibit! i miss all the old creatures and cavemen who used to be there
despite this, the fact that many of the exhibits shown here are still around shows that Blackgang Chine is just timeless
What ever happened to the excavator?
