I love these films. It is so wonderful to see and share the love. My childhood holidays were on the island and I had relatives at Ryde. I always hope to see my family- all gone now, and I cherish those sunlit days with my grandparents, parents, aunties and uncles. Thank you. X

Thank you for your kind comments on this film.
      And also your memories.
Your childhood holidays on the island mirrored mine.
Also with family on the island all long gone, but never forgotten.

I remember that summer on the IOW, 75 was a scorcher and was only forgotten as an amazing summer because of 76. I spent that summer in Yarmouth fishing on the pier and building airfix models of WW2 planes, surfing at Compton bay, and playing at Blackgang Chine.

Thank you for sharing and bringing back such treasured memories. It was the year I started teaching in The Island. I was living in a bed sit on Eastcliff Road in Shanklin Old Village. Happy Days!

This is a gem, great quality - and long too!!
MV Caedmon was only built in 1973 so is very new here! It went out of service in 2009 and was dismantled (gulp) in May 2010.
Great to see the National Southern Vectis coach - the company had become part of the National Bus Co in 1969.
The Leconfield Hotel in Bonchurch is still there and recently had a change of ownership (October 2021) note also the Worthington 'E' sign outside. This was one of the leading keg beers throughout the 70s but disappeared about 1994 thanks to the increase in cask ales.
    W. Hurst & Son Ltd in Ventnor is still there - started by Charles Wheeler in 1859. This branch has been there since around 1960! I think I went down those steep steps only last year. Look how busy Ventnor was in those days! Alum Bay and Sandown too.
    4:45 - Knowles Farm.
7:23 - Love that Pond shop in Bonchurch. I've seen it on the colour postcards from the same era. it's very nice around there and The shore where the pottery shop is.
9:35 - my favourite hovvy - the SRN6!!!! Great looking craft but apparently unreliable.
Loved all the great cars in this video - my era. Plus all the old SV buses - at a time when they had many more routes!
I feel a little bit 'giddy' after this one mate!😊😉
