Different ways. Some vocal or instrumental stems get leaked/dumped/ripped from guitar hero or uploaded directly by the artist. Those are the original and so are highest quality. If the official stems aren’t available, I mostly rely on vocal extraction programs like htDemucs that are based on AI models, but you lose some quality this way. Lots of people also remake instrumentals or make “karaoke versions” that are pretty close to the original. Other ways to extract stems include phase cancellation, EQ, or fancier plugins in various DAWs; conceptually, these are all based on isolating the particular frequencies you want (lower range for bass, upper for some percussion, middle for vocals or instruments, etc).
i've been wanting to get into mashups and remixing songs for a while now. what software do you use? if i can figure it out i might take up your challenge and remix this song. nice job btw! i can def see how it works
Mostly audacity, but I use FL studio (free version) for better pitch/tempo changing. I get isolated tracks from RUclips, or if there are none, I use hybrid Demucs google colab.
