Hopkinsin Smith is a new discovery for me - I love the way he played pieces by Vieux Gaultier and many others. He plays wonderfully !! Many thanks for this upload also. !
Weiss was to me such a mysterious and fascinating composer. I wonder when they are going to finish that compendium? Like Scarlatti his music lends itself to the classical guitar. 8 string ones work especially well. The musician performing is extremely excellent!!!
I knew him when he was a freshman at Harvard. He's developed into one of the top lutenists of his generation. Its interesting to compare his interpretations, musicality, and technique to that of Robert Barto.

Weiss' music is breathtakingly gorgeous and shows perfection of form. Hopkinson Smith does it justice!
I met Hoppy Smith when he was a Harvard freshman in 1967. Now he is a master lutenist. Great job Hoppy !!!
not only an extraordinary musician but also a lovely person and teacher.

The prelude is an improvisation by Hopkinson Smith himself
REALLY??? WOW

Well, both Hoppy and Bob Barto studied in Basel at the Schola Cantorum with the late Eugen Mueller-Dombois.
Weiss was king of the lute-fiddle.
His interpretations are energetic and involve the listener.
breathtaking, so sensitive, such a lovely music
Great Hopi. Marvelous lutenist. it would be great if you upload the whole CD. Thanks.
How have I never heard of Silvius Leopold Weiss and Hopkinson Smith?!
Meraviglioso!
Thank you!
Beautiful, beautiful.
Truely magnificent
Such a peaceful music!
I love hearing his sharp intakes of breath as he quickly changes chord positions. I know I sound silly, but it adds to it for me : )
Indeed, uhh numbers, it all flows so naturally.
so sòoooooo beautiful thank you
J’ADORE
he wins all categories!

ces pièces m'enchantent. Je pense que ça vient en partie de l'interprète...

Anyone know where this prelude is from? It doesn't seem to appear as part of the 16th Sonata in the Dresden manuscript
The prelude is Hoppy's own.
Super barokve
