I've trained in Small Circle Ju-Jitsu under the highest belt in Australia back in the 90's who was graded by Wally Jay!! I also had the honour of training with Wally Jay Himself!! It was amazing to see, have some great photo's of that time!! RIP sir you were a legend!!
A genius a legend a true master!!!Not enough words to say how good professor wally Jay is!! I train under DKI and have DVDs of these masters in action, I am truly honoured
Great content. I’m a little distracted by the 80s music in the background. “Casanova” by LeVert in particular. But it’s good to see some of jujitsu’s roots.
It is nice to see jujutsu like this because you can easily see how martial arts like Aikido and Judo and even Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are influenced by Jujutsu.
Legend im a bjj guy im black belt but dabbled with j.j. theres a lot weapons knowledge small joint dirty tactics that are valuable good to know practice os to this legend!!!
I shared teaching seminars with Professor Jay, he is a true legend and we always complimented each other’s style!…..Professor Larry Hilton Ketsugo Ryu Jujitsu
Thank you all for your comments. The reason for this video is because he is a somewhat close family relative and many family members are unaware of what he has done. Last I heard, Uncle Wally was still living in California.
Your uncle was my sensei’s sensei. I once received an award from him and it’s still one of my most prized posessions. Not just cuz it was signed by him but because it was him recognizing all the hardwork and determination i had put in that year and he sadly passed away shortly after. I was at the gym everyday busting my ass that year n it meant the world to me to have it honored by the founder of the martial art. I sadly havent done martial arts in a long time but i know 2 of my sensei’s were both under him and they both still teach small circle to this day. They also have incorporated bjj and muay thai and other forms of martial arts into their schools as well. Wally’s ten principles of small circle formed the foundation of how i built my skillset around any martial arts style i picked up and it served me well. He really was a man ahead of his time. My condolences to you and you’re family he was a truly great man
I had the pleasure of training under this guy in a couple seminars, it's amazing because you meet prof. and he seems really meek and attentive but when he puts a lock on you it's like having your hand forced that shape with iron.
4-11-23 I'm reviewing all this content that I posted 13 years ago. I'm also looking at all the comments. LOL I wasn't really looking at the comments during all these past years.
Wrist locks are so impractical. “Grab my wrist..no, the other hand” The only way it could possibly work is if the other guy is unaware and not paying attention.
@gendaiyawara back some years ago i had the great pleasure to attend a seminar with Prof. Wally Jay....let me tell you from personal experience that what he does...WORKS! there was a young lady there who several weeks later was attacked in a parking lot & used a combo of his technique along with Ryuku Kempo & managed to not only survive her attack BUT subdued her attacker AND broke his arm!! he was screaming for help when the police arrived! :)
Don't Think, feeel!, a lot of pain with the use of science & leverages. I believe Pro. Jay had already was a poineer in martial arts and had influence on B.Lee in the earlier years.
@sasat1986 judo came from jiu jitsu, so yes they do have somthing to do with each other. dont look up jiu jitsu, that is just throws. there jiu jitsu, which is the unarmed part of budo. it included: throws, karate, and ground fighting. some people spell it different ways, and there are also different styles, but japanese jiu jitus is the blanket art for just about anything coming out of japan, and before japanese jiu jitsu was budo. this is just a ruff summary, but you should get the point.
I can't believe that the guy below is actually arguing that MMA is from Judo and not jujitsu. Where do these people get their information from? All judo is jujitsu, but not all jujitsu is judo. Judo is the sport form of the combat parent art, jujitsu. Wally Jay was amazing. His son Leon will carry on the family name just fine.
MMA is not about any one style at all. It's about different styles going against each other. Nowadays MMA is totally homogenized and ruined. I liked back in the day watching a mauy thai dude go against a judo guy. Not no mo'.
cyclops1092 Exactly. MMA WAS about styles going against each other. As in past tense. Its ruined and a cookie cutter verison of toughman contests mixed in with BJJ. Sympatico.
J Smith Been a while since my Cyclops days calling to say Howdy! This MMA thing has been interesting to say the least. How about the recent string of upsets? Depending on who you were rooting for that is.
St. Macarius Well, the developments have been interesting I agree, but the sport as a whole just isn't anymore. I have to say, MMA feels like a toughman contest with more money thrown into it. The fights just don't have the same build up or anticipation that boxing does. And like I've said before, when athletes are so easily replaceable, then they also become so easily forgettable. There are only a few athletes in MMA that were or aren't replaceable. Very few. MMA is struggling so badly that we've seen MMA fighters calling out boxers. They need the attention THAT bad. Rousey and McGregor were 15 minutes of fame personalities. I think people were more interested in seeing how long their 15 minutes lasted than they were impressed with their skillsets. I have to say though, the way that MMA's best have risen and fallen has made for an interesting wrinkle in the story of a fringe sport. So I agree there. Again, I am truly happy to hear that you are doing so well. I don't see you as much as I used to back in the Cyclops days, but I tell myself that the time you used to spend here as Cyclops is now being spent making your days fulfilling. You input is missed, but like always, I am rooting for you like you wouldn't believe, sir. God bless, - J
J Smith Well J, you should know I'm damn near a fully sober man now. That is to say not only do I abstain from various substances but I also look above, to me that is the most 'sobering'. My lack of attendance I think is due that my relationship with RUclips is waning in favor of building a relationship with you know Who. I've sort of overheard the hype surrounding the recent MMA doings and I suppose it's great for those fans. I haven't checked out an actual MMA thing since Royce Gracie fought that big ol' fat sumo wrestler dude back in the 90's. I looked at Holly somewhat because of her boxing back round but not enough to go further than a highlight of her big win over that other gal. I appreciate your kinds words. If by rooting you mean prayer, then that's terrific! If not, I'll take the rooting! Thank you very kindly.
It's really funny because whenever my sensei tries any of this stuff on me, it does not work since I'm double jointed in my wrists, finger tips, and many of my pressure points don't work.
There are a lot of things you can do to double jointed people that work well. But, nothing works 100% of the time on everyone. Prof. Jay knew this which is why he was also a boxer.
@freijaful In one of his last interviews Grandmaster Helio Gracie said that he was dissapointed in the path that his art had taken. He said that he had not developed it to be a sport, but an art of self defense. Therefore developed for the street. So I have to dissagree with you on that one. I have studied Gracie JiuJitsu and Modern Arnis for several years and can tell you from experience that both are extremely effective in street combat, where there are no rules.
@ironman949 please dont ruin the gracie name by using it in such a ignorant comment. i practise GJJ and there is no reason why these techniques couldnt be used in a grappling situation. so just learn from the video instead of spewing forth nonsense about it.
If you read bruce lee untold story by robert bleeker who was his training partner and he was linda lee's second husband bruce lee experimented with anobolic staroids and drugs look it up on google
@shgsr71 Truly, if u study ju jutsu and then study BJJ, and i mean ACTUALLY STUDY it and not just look at it, you WILL realise that BJJ has alot LESS than pure ju jutsu. But at the end of the day, the art is as good as the artist. But, BJJ is really for the ring, not the street.
@michaeltarkington martial arts aint bout havin the ballsor bein manly its developing evrything along with humility. Hidden greatness is the way, the biggest dog doesnt always have to bark
@MadRopes AMEN AMEN AMEN!!! THANK YOUUU!!! I been saying that for years. Besides, people say MMA is a martial art, when i ACTUALLY is the type of tournament. MMA is pure....SHIT
.trust me dude anybody with any REAL martial arts experience knows that kid does not represent Helio Graice's system of Ju-jitsu.he's young and dumb like we all were.hopefully he'll learn..one day
😂🤣. I did a seminar with Leon jay. When it was my turn I wasn’t compliant so he just moved on to someone else. This stuff is fun but not realistic at all.

Prof. Jay is a legend in not only jujitsu but in martial arts period! This is good footage of him doing small circle. Many more years of training.
It's a big shame that he's gone, hopefully his family and students can carry on his great legacy. There is no time for any of us to waste.
Love Small Circle Jujitsu!
i liked what he said that he was a very slow learner but over time and repetition he learnt , gives me hope
Most humble guy
"Martial arts are not about how much you can hurt an aggressor but how little you can hurt them and still control them".
Great content. I’m a little distracted by the 80s music in the background. “Casanova” by LeVert in particular. But it’s good to see some of jujitsu’s roots.

Oh yes, I also have one of his books.

R.I.P. Wally Jay
because the video clip IS about 20 years old.
Love the music theyre playing
@Deetroiter
It does look like him. Remy did those same demos to me back when i was a kid.

heyyyy this is from Hawaiian moving company! i remember this!!
I want to study this system for a few years
@Deetroiter -sorry I do not know.
I had the pleasure of training under this guy in a couple seminars, it's amazing because you meet prof. and he seems really meek and attentive but when he puts a lock on you it's like having your hand forced that shape with iron.
How does he talk like that without any sounds coming out? That must be really hard.
4-11-23 I'm reviewing all this content that I posted 13 years ago. I'm also looking at all the comments. LOL I wasn't really looking at the comments during all these past years.
@MadRopes exactly, thats why they dont allow wrist locks or stuff like that cause it is quick, effectives, and is not very aesthetic to viewers.
Wrist locks are so impractical. “Grab my wrist..no, the other hand” The only way it could possibly work is if the other guy is unaware and not paying attention.
Question what jiu-jitsu style is he teaching or better yet, What is koryu?
Sorry, I don't know. I just posted this because he is related to grandpa.
Awesome!

@Deetroiter Dont think it is Prof. Remy. However he worked a lot with Prof. Jay.
Professor Remy had seminars with Wally Jay, and Remy even incorporated some small circle jj in his Modern Arnis.
RIP Professor Jay

No it's not. looks like a younger version of him though.
I thought about removing those "off-color" comments, but I decided to leave them up for everybody to see.
@keefejohn1 -well said...some people just don't get it.
I saw him stand on one finger. Think of a hand stand with one hand then switch to the index finger.
So one of Rorian's sons is able to beat up a 90 year old man. Right on! I'm glad you told everybody that
Un tres grand maitre , avec un immence savoir .

@shgsr71 Then what we see today i like a total "misrepresentation" (for want of a better word) of bjj?
I would have loved to challenge him on tatami
Yes.
steven seagal also use this small circle in his techniques doesnt he
Kinda. Seagal sort of reverse engenders Akido back into a variation of jujitsu in my opinion anyway
RIP

😂🤣. I did a seminar with Leon jay. When it was my turn I wasn’t compliant so he just moved on to someone else. This stuff is fun but not realistic at all.
All bullshit attacks. Joint locks work but you must disrupt the attack first. Like bust em in the mouth with a jab. Then wristlock
Look up chin na.
your right mabbee hiss 95 yr. dad
this shit is closer kave maga then jiu jitsu
this guy a fruit
I used to believe in this crap. When I was younger and didn't know any better.
Awful 80s music..,
👍👍👍
