Well im so glad mario was on sonic side here and actually at least convinced the two that sonic wouldn't want nine nor mr l to be killed off that he at least give them happier life but he doesn't know what would happen so basically they have to hope for the best..

Hey hazah master i think for the next episode when they find sonic that nine says something to him then sonic just snaps and just let's out all his emotions while yelling at nine and then they both make up and became friends again (you dont have to take my idea but it would be interesting to see sonic actually break down)
