    How would I connect a pair of powered bookshelf speakers with a sub out to the Line level outputs so I can use the High Pass Crossover ?

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  Год назад +1

      that would be an odd way to do it, you'd need a pre-amp which kind of defeats the purpose of powered speakers but you can go preamp out to the sub then lineout from the sub to the powered speakers. You could also use a bludsound node 2 which has highpass options so you can use any sub with that. I think using the bluesound makes more sense.

    Getting back into stereo music. Ended up getting an Emotiva 2.1 system: B1+ bookshelf speakers, SE8 sub, and BASX TA1 integrated amp. Originally was going to get the Denon PE600 but Emotiva gives 20% back in Emotiva $ so the BASX TA1 ended up being less expensive than the Denon! Free shipping from Franklin TN was about 2-3 days from day of order since I live about 100 miles away. Hi Nemo, just now getting around to checking out the sub series reviews. "The system as a whole is just incredibly enjoyable"! Now that's a great summary of a system design that end users don't hear enough about. It always comes down to total system configuration and synergy over the individual parts which in the end either makes it engaging and FUN or not so much.
    As best as I can determine from your review here, the B1+ and S8 pairing is probably going to outperform many or most pair of speakers in the $500-600 price range. One thing that caught my attention is the paring really does not take up a whole lotta space either. These Emotiva products seem to be the kind that a user is able to plug into, play away, have loads of fun with, while letting go of all that audiophile OCD crap. I've never owned any Emo speakers but am now gonna have to truly consider getting this B1+ and S8 pair.
    Thanks Nemo!

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  4 года назад +4

      Yeah the S8 with B1 pairing will outperform any $500-$600 speaker only option in overall performance. Granted a $500-$600 speaker only option might have better integration between the drivers and be slightly better here or there but there but if we're talking full range sound i don't think anything can best this combination at this price point for overall performance vs value. Emotiva also just released a 12" version of that sub for just $100 more, I'm going to email them begging for a review sample :D

    I am using B1+ pair and S8 sub as a combo, they work well together with a caveat. I was using the B1+ pair with an integrated amp for a few weeks before I added the S8 sub to my system. I was very happy with the B1+ pair but I wanted more sound on the bottom end. The S8 added the bass but the sound of the B1+ pair regressed when the sub was added. The midrange response receded and the overall bass response sounded a little exaggerated. The problem is that the crossover adjustment on the SE8 only goes down to 60Hz and the rated bottom end on the B1+ pair is 48Hz. This overlap between 48Hz and 60Hz for the B1+ pair and the S8 sub dramatically affected the overall output of the system. Originally I was using the integrated amp to drive the system, the SE8 sub was connected via the sub out on the amp. I resolved the issue by using the external DAC as a preamp and passing it's 2 channel output into the SE8 (instead of into AUX on the amp) and taking advantage of the high pass filter in that unit. The 2 channel output from the sub is passed into the 2 channel AUX input of the amp. The B1+ pair continued to be connected to the high level output of the amp. The cross over frequency, and, the high pass filter, on the SE8 sub were both set to 60Hz. No more overlap, the B1+ pair was getting sound 60Hz and above and the SE8 was getting sound below 60Hz. Once I set the gain on the sub to my taste the sound issues were resolved. No more exaggerated bass and the placement of the midrange was as expected. Plus the B1+ pair got an extra shot of energy by filtering out the frequencies below 60Hz.
    To summarize, the crossover frequency on the SE8 only goes down to 60Hz. This could adversely affect system sound output if there are other speakers in the system that go below 60Hz and it is not properly managed.

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  4 года назад +1

      Yeah, that's common, room plays a big factor too. I've been dealing with that recently with a difference system but same problem. It would be nice if there were more adjustment options but at the end of the day for the price it's already so good I'm not sure they can add any more features and keep the price the same.

    • @keithjohnson2863
      @keithjohnson2863 4 года назад +1

      @@NemoPropaganda I actually called Emotiva when i ordered the sub to ask if the overlapping frequencies would be an issue and should I replace my integrated amp with a preamp - power amp combo. I got a lazy answer from the tech and they lost a sale. I was able to make a temporary fix with what I had on hand. I will upgrade the DAC/preamp and swap the integrated amp for a power amp.
      The most comprehensive solution would be to use a home theater preamp that does bass.management and automatic room EQ. But those cost more than I want to spend on a budget system.

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  4 года назад

      @@keithjohnson2863 wow that's kind of a bummer, they're usually on top of it!! I don't know the statistics on how many companies use this sort of configuration per se but I wouldn't call it an exotic design by any means. Most likely not, you could use REW to test your theory but I would trust that emotiva setup the driver arrangement in the way that was most effective. Aperion Audio uses a similar arrangement with their Bravus subwoofers and also uses the downward firing driver as the active but instead uses 2 passive radiators. REL on the other hand chooses the front driver as the active unit and the downward as the passive so my guess is it just doesn't matter all that much but you can certainly experiment :).

      @@NemoPropaganda Just to post further comments.... I have the Sonys (ordered a couple weeks ago), and now just received the B1+s . The Emotivas are little more Punchy than the Sonys... However, the Sonys are really good at $148 !! I;m "testing"them both now. I have a SW in my system - Monoprice 60 Watt , works great at $90 on Amazon. Check that out. I'll let you know as I Test them further. FYI, I use both a Denon DRA-800H Receiver (for stereo 2.1 channel only right now), and a IOTA SA3 comboed with a Emotiva A-300 Amp.

      The sub fills in the sound really good, simply put it's the best subwoofer you can buy for a measly $300. I never felt like I needed to turn it off. James I must admit I'm a bit perplexed by your comment. It seems you believe I'm a simpleton who speaks in some default manner without a thought given to appearances or presentation. Your comment of "please learn" indicates that you think my attitude is for lack of knowledge or vocabulary. I would say that makes you a bit arrogant & judgmental, you should perhaps learn to improve that. This is my YT channel, which means I will express myself the way I am happy with. There are plenty of people that swear often or may even have a poor vocabulary but are in fact highly intelligent and astonishingly successful like Gary Vaynerchuck. If you don't like my approach I politely ask you to fuck off. Of course if we can grow up a bit and learn that a way a man chooses to speak is his personal choice and you can accept that simple fact you certainly are welcome to stay. I don't care either way but it is a bit silly to judge human beings on their choice in vocabulary or mastery of a particular language.

      You are correct that the way a man speaks is his personal choice, but you must also accept that it is a projection of yourself and it therefore has a direct correlation to how you are perceived by others.
      “Growing up a bit” also implies self mastery, and crude verbal expressions are hardly the epitome of refined self-expression. But, alas, as you said, that’s your choice and you won’t hear from me again.
