Bruh I really dislike SUV cars. Out of all the people who buy them, very few of them actually need an SUV. The other ones are usually random suburban parents bringing their kids to school, driving to work and wanting to have a money flex and "look at my giant car"-flex car. It’s just really unnecessary and the governments don‘t do anything about this stuff polluting the environment and making cars more dangerous. Why can’t we just go back to cars that try to be affordable, low on gas and nice and small like the VW Lupo? The Lupo is not my fav car and I‘m not a VW fan, but I would definitely choose a Lupo over an SUV. I really like the idea of the Lupo and it looks cute. On top of that, I HATE SUV designs. I don‘t like it when a car looks giant and intimidating. If I would buy a family car it would be a station wagon like the Opel Astra. I overall like this car line. We have an Astra G and it’s perfect. Yes it’s old, but it’s affordable, low on gas, beautiful, a great family car, and everything fits in there, especially if you fold down the rear seat. A bicycle? Fits in there. Gardening equipment? Fits in there. Christmas tree? Fits in there. Lawnmower? Fits in there. The extra large meadow mower? Fits in there. On top of that the engine sounds very satisfying to me. There will always be people who still want a normal car like a sedan, station wagon, small car, coupe etc. And with all these brands stopping to manufacture them, a huge gap is growing in the market. Some good manufacturer will hopefully see this. And I really hope cars like the VW Golf+Polo and Opel Corsa+Astra won’t become SUVs too. They’re so popular, I really can’t imagine that… That would make me really mad because those cars are some of the few modern cars that I like.
I'll be honest, I love minivans. They're just easier and more fun to drive. Do I need to haul a family? I can do it. Do I need to haul some drywall? I can do that too.
I own an SUV because I go on lots of trips with my friends, range days, airsoft, and I live in Maine where the winters necessitate 4 wheel drive. I have plenty of space in my 05 Explorer for all my guns and gear, or any kind of small lumber I haul, and it gets me where I need to go

We got the '96 Explorer from an amigo who used it as a work truck, and we got it for $200. We were gonna pay more, but he said not to worry about it. We got the 2018 Explorer because the '96 Explorer broke down in our "driveway," and it was just before Christmas. Dad and Mom needed to go to work, so Dad decided to get a used SUV to fit us all. We got it for an amazing deal on the Explorer, and we were all pretty happy because we got a vehicle with working A/C. I only just got my license that allows me to drive alone in Australia. All I needed to do was drive 120 hours with my mum or with a qualified instructor for even less. I could have done all this quickly and easily during COVID but I drove so little because we had a Kia Sorrento. Something that isn’t even considered a large SUV by American standards. When I finally got my P’s I was afraid to drive alone. However, my parents had bought an old Kia Cerato hatchback and I instantly fell in love with it, I wouldn’t say I actively enjoy driving, but it’s a damn sight better in the hatchback then in a damn SUV.
Suvs/crossovers are fucking generic and boring, and are so commonplace, and the only thing more shitty about them is that everyone that has one thinks theyre special.
At this point the term "SUV" has been watered down to the point where it shouldn't be used by automakers anymore. It made sense in the era of Jeep Wagoneers, Chevy Suburbans, and Toyota J60 series Land Cruisers, where the term referred to an actual utility vehicle, based on a body on frame truck platform with four wheel drive and typically very capable of being used off road. They were usually secondary vehicles, not family wagons. Now, "SUV" can mean anything. Most of the vehicles under this classification today are unibody car based vehicles with higher beltlines. The off-road features, once a hallmark of SUVs, has been reduced to black plastic trim meant to seem "rugged" even if the vehicle never leaves paved roads. It makes no sense how we have terms like hatchback, coupe, sedan, etc, but for some reason, a BMW X6 and two door Jeep Wrangler are somehow the same category of vehicle. As someone who's always loved older 4x4s like old Land Rovers, Suzuki Jimnys, and pre-2007 Jeeps, the crossover trend absolutely infuriates me. Not just because they popularized these vehicles and killed pretty much everything else, but because automakers decided to completely water down the actual sport utility vehicles in their lineups. No more Troopers, Monteros, or Ramchargers, the only real, by definition SUVs being made anymore are the aforementioned Jeep Wrangler, new Ford Bronco, and a small handful of newer off road vehicles that seem to be emerging; even then companies seem dead set on making them into massive luxury vehicles. I can't wait for the crossover trend to die off, I'm sick to death of generic jellybean shaped crossovers being everywhere.
i just found your channel from the trabant video and i was wondering if you could do something about the morris minor or similar? I seen them everywhere and occasionally still do also, i understand the pain with suv's
Personally I like small crossover cars like the Toyota Raize (Middle East Version) because of the more comfortable seating position over sedans. Suv's are roomy but minivans are king when it comes to comfort.
I fought and lost this war. In the 90's, I refused to buy a useless SUV and bought a minivan, which did the intended function much better. Now, I still have a sedan, and I noticed recently at a restaurant that out of all the cars in the parking lot, say 30 or so, only 3 were actual cars - the rest all SUV's or pickups. I also have a small pickup, because I use it as one. So car owners are a minority. In the end, though, the car market is determined by what will sell; what will sell is determined by what the people want. If people decided that they didn't need SUVs (which they jmostly don't) the market would change. Fashion driven buyers are the problem - a bunch of sheep.
If cars were really for the people they’d be compact and agile like a Mazda 2 while using 90s tech with no extras in between. Instead our cars are designed for the investors of big auto made to milk every ounce of cash from the consumer without giving you extra in return.
My opinion. Automakers should pivot away from new SUVs and focus on maintaining the cars already on the road. As a 90s kid, I grew up in old, lifted trucks. I prefer old iron. Maintaining an older car is much more affordable than buying new every 10 years. Programs like Cash4Clunkers didn't help anything, besides making money for manufacturers, while simultaneously destroying perfectly good old cars. Old cars are safe. I don't think my 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis would end a cyclist, unlike a new Nissan Rogue. Old cars have more character to them as well. Yes, older cars are less efficient, but can be improved with new technology to lessen their pollution.
While watching this vid and drinking coffee i noticed that the coffee cup mentions a giveaway lottery type of thing for an SUV (Tim Hortons fans rise up 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

TBH, I found most sedans and small hatchbacks too low to the ground, making visibility difficult and getting in and out uncomfortable. Although I do agree the hatred towards large SUVs, me included, my preferred size of vehicles would be the Mini Countryman, Mercedes GLA, Nissan Kicks, or Fiat 500X.
Just put the seat up or drive a proper following distance to see infront of you? I’m 5’5 and visibility has never been an issue. But I will say that in SUVs the blind spots are horrendous.
@@GardenStateNJ27 i have a CX-5 and it’s so hard to see on a rainy night when i drive my gf’s civic. i agree there’s an SUV epidemic but the visibility and safety is far greater
SUVs suck! Europe is full of the damn things too, but european infrastructure isn't able to handle it. Try finding a parking space in a multi story parking garage in any city in Germany with a compact car or a station wagon- you can't because all the Stupid Useless Vehicles end up leaving only half parking spaces everywhere because the infrastructure dates back to the 60s when a large european family sedan was the size of a new VW Golf. Miserable trend!
Capitalism must fall. Not completely, but this obsession over more profits is literally killing the world. I am on the camp that SUVs have their place, BUT THEY SHOULD NEVER BE THE STANDARD. Efficiency, lightness and smallnesa are where it's at 🥰 I'll f*cking die on this hill, you'll never see me owning an SUV.
The first true crossover that I like is the original AMC Eagle. There were awsome in the 80s. I will forever have love for coupes, sedans, Station Wagons, hatchbacks, and traditional RWD/AWD SUVs. I will buy them over a boring FWD, trashy non-reliable, unsafe crossovers (with the exception of Hondas and Toyotas) There are not real passager cars, there're nothing but throw away appliances to me.
not everyone drives an SUV now and some have excisted long before the name was coined such as Chevrolet/GMC Suburban there are still sedans/hatchbacks that are popular such as the Toyota Corolla sedan/hatchback also in the US Market the top selling automotive segment is pickup trucks and has been since the late 1970s and the F-series has been the top seller in the class since 1977 and overall since 1982 where as the top models for midsize cars have been the same since that 90s Honda Accord/Toyota Camry
Ok, let's be clear: NOT EVERY SUV IS A BIG, HONKING HUGE, EARTH DESTROYING JUGGERNAUT. And the fact that some of you in this comment section are sports car fans- you know, those super mobiles that have horribly polluting engines like V12s or W16- you have the nerve to talk about the environmental destructiveness of an SUV?? I'm all for being concerned about the environment, but let's not act like the sport utility vehicle in itself is the problem. There are plenty of compact crossover SUVs on the market. In fact, those are the MAIN SUVs selling. No, it's not G wagens or Suburbans; it's Model Ys, RAV4s, and CR-Vs. And NONE of those vehicles have a harsh impact on the environment, nor are they explicitly dangerous to drive. But what are you really angry about? Let me guess: the fact that people haven't been buying your favorite sporty little hatchback, or sedan, or little sports car enough to justify auto makers continuing on to produce them. Sorry people would much rather have practicality, versatility, comfort, and yes, safety over going fast, cornering hard and living life like a damn street racer. If you want your funky little boy racer, or your high-powered, low profile ultra speed machine that you can barely fit groceries in the back of, let alone a stroller or luggage for a road trip, that's your prerogative (and station wagons are only so comfortable and can only fit so much, so yes, I include those too). But don't get on here and shit on people for wanting vehicles that are actually livable daily drivers just because that has encouraged automakers to prioritize building them over your dream machines. If anything, I'm more wondering why so many people would rather have an SUV over a much more usable and comfortable minivan 🤷🏽♀️. And I will be completely honest: I personally hate sedans, coupes, convertibles, roadsters, anything low riding with no practicality. I can maybe tolerate a hatchback or a wagon, but I'm not taking one over an suv, pickup truck, or van, which I totally prefer. But boy, does it seem like if you consider yourself an auto enthusiast, you MUST hate high-profile vehicles, and love impractical small ones, and that annoys the shit out of me.
I appreciate your comment and understand the importance of owning a practical vehicle. I will certainly admit that I made too many generalizations for some of my claims, and that I could have emphasized the differences between a CR-V and an expedition, for example. Additionally, I completely understand why consumers buy SUVs, as they are often the most practical vehicles that automakers make these days. Family hatchbacks, station wagons, MPVs, and minivans are overwhelmingly being discontinued, leaving many consumers no realistic options other than an SUV or truck. However, the widespread global adoption of the body style as a whole has had some significant consequences, and that was what I wanted to cover in this video.
@@jlcii SUVs are a gimmick. They are the most impractical vehicles and are hurting Americans daily financially and physically through their emissions. It’s all big oil propaganda with these big SUVs and trucks. One person sitting in a 6-8 ton box of Metal with two couches, cup holders, large HVAC system, a giant entertainment system with sound quality as loud as a movie theatre, a polluting motor with emission standards less stringent than a smaller practical FWD sub 100hp vehicle that has almost similar cabin space as these big Behemoth vehicles? Huge cars that are bigger than tanks that fought in world war 2 And more computers than the spaceship that landed on the moon are needed??? It’s all absurd and in the end it is hurting you and us as a whole way more than we all realize
And If i can't afford a real suv like a Tahoe or 4 runner I will stick with sedans . Because the dome buggies everybody drive today are hideous. It's like everyone have mini vans .
I feel like if we actually had a conversation about SUVs becoming to big, too resource intense, too dangerous, and argue for restrictions it would inevitably move to restrictions of things like performance cars, luxury cars, sedans, minivans etc. The conclusion would be we only have kei car to choose from nothing else. Sedans no matter how you feel about them are a very inefficient layout and are as large or larger than many SUVs. Thats why areas with space premiums use hatchback styles. The kei car formula is the absolute most efficient small car formula. If you really want to stop SUV because of things like the environment then you should push for kei cars. Making sure that that and only that is the option. I like SUVs. They have got a bit out of hand in some regards. I have yet to find as useful a body style. Anything other car you can say I dont think I would really couldn't agree. Been in tons of different cars. Sedans, hatchbacks, and coupes are so inefficiently thought out typically. So are many, if not most SUVs to be fair. Im all ears for something actually practical thats not a SUV. I dont care much for handling or performance. Im stuck in traffic at the speed limit like everyone else. Handling means notbing to me or most buyers because we cant and never will use it. We are all stuck in traffic together.
TBF it really depends on the car brand and model. Especially when it comes to Unibody SUV vs Body on frame. Unibody SUVs have better handling but Body on frame is more sturdy and better suited for off road and wet conditions so it really depends.

Just put the seat up or drive a proper following distance to see infront of you? I’m 5’5 and visibility has never been an issue. But I will say that in SUVs the blind spots are horrendous.
@GardenStateNJ27 try some one 6'1 might have problems
Efficiency, lightness and smallnesa are where it's at 🥰
I'll f*cking die on this hill, you'll never see me owning an SUV.
Exactly🙂
Yeah, because Communism was so great when the government actually restricted people from being able to provide for their own basic needs.
People should have the choice to buy what they want. That's just one of the reasons why capitalism is so great.
@@PeugeotRocket the choice is an illusion though. We are very limited in what we can buy
@@GardenStateNJ27 I think people from the former Soviet Union would disagree with you on that.
Good video , Sir
You Also Forgot To Mention The Fact That In Developing Countries Traditional Vehicle Styles Are Not Popular.
are SACs not just modern versions of the "compact" line that bmw had, both old and new iterations are indeed quite ugly
But i still like them
not everyone drives an SUV now and some have excisted long before the name was coined such as Chevrolet/GMC Suburban there are still sedans/hatchbacks that are popular such as the Toyota Corolla sedan/hatchback also in the US Market the top selling automotive segment is pickup trucks and has been since the late 1970s and the F-series has been the top seller in the class since 1977 and overall since 1982 where as the top models for midsize cars have been the same since that 90s Honda Accord/Toyota Camry
zastava please
sedans>>>>suv
People prefer to be sheep, they're brain can't handle anything else
Or maybe people just actually like SUVs...
SUVs are overpriced junk
Modern SUVs are peak hoboglomo
And If i can't afford a real suv like a Tahoe or 4 runner I will stick with sedans . Because the dome buggies everybody drive today are hideous. It's like everyone have mini vans .
I don't care , the roads are shit that an AWD SUV is literally a must have
Skill issue
Suvs like the first gen rav 4 are great. We have today is absurd
SUV’s are Ugly and have Poor Handling!
TBF it really depends on the car brand and model. Especially when it comes to Unibody SUV vs Body on frame. Unibody SUVs have better handling but Body on frame is more sturdy and better suited for off road and wet conditions so it really depends.
Video was great until he started complaining about climate and pedestrians.
