Mr. Rosen I love the way you teach openings! I discovered you because of your videos for St.Louis chess and I learnt so much from your videos. Thank you, please keep doing this kind of videos!
Great video Eric, just got to know about you through the St. Louis lectures and specially appreciated the commentated gameplays you did there, found them awesome and realized i had a goldmine of content here! Really appreciate your attitude towards people in general, you seem to enjoy teaching and that translates into all of us i believe, learning from someone who likes teaching and enjoys interacting in the meantime is great, cheers from Argentina my man, you're great!
I showed this Opening to Awonder Liang when he was 8 years old. Awonder just played it in the 2022 U.S. Championship, and got a Draw against the #8 player in the World, Caruna.
Thank you RUclips suggestions... did this series continue? It's great. I love playing the Petrov because it seems like a lot of low rated e4 players expect Spanish or Italian and really have to think hard on a Petrov. Black gains a lot of time in blitz. But so far I have only played Stafford Gambit against knight takes, and only played the center fork after Nc3 and Bc4, and after Nc3 Bb5 I just improvise as best I can :). It is really cool to see another idea in the Petrov that will also make white think, or, if they are expect black to fall into the discovered check trap, to have a way to surprise them.
Hi Eric, I often watch your Twitch streams on Y.T. So glad to see your giving Y.T. further attention! Thanks, I would love to see your insights on the Caro-Kann Defence . Thank You Much!
I would love to see more on the halloween's gambit I d love you to go more in depth with this type of opening bcz personally i enjoy it very much Thanks for the lessons man !! Really appreciate it :)
Checked the lichess db for 2000+ Blitz and slower (no Bullet), black is doing quite well after 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. Nxe5 Nxe4 4. Qe2 Qe7 53% wins for black versus 38% wins for white. Nevermind opening theory, empirically 3... Nxe4 is the best move! Below the GM level anyway, and diminishing returns if you keep playing this against the same opponents. The database suggests 6. f4 might be an improvement for white but it's rarely played. White's real problem after 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. Nxe5 Nxe4 4. Qe2 Qe7 5. Qxe4 d6 6. d4 dxe5 7. dxe5 Nc6 is that 8. Nc3 is only the fourth most common move. If white finds that, the percentages are 56% white wins versus 32% black wins, otherwise black has the (empirical) edge.
At 12:38 after fxe5;Rhe1 ,black may have a tempo move in ...Bg4 and then he can he can play exf4 as his rook is now defended. fxe5 instead of Rhe1 could be good. If ..Bg4 then Rde1 is possible.
Hey Eric, thanks for making these videos and also telling us some sneaky traps like this. I would like it if you could make video on also less popular openings like the alekhine or just share your thoughts about it with us.
Wonderful, instructive lessons on RUclips. Love it, Eric! By the way - wasn't Andras Toth falling for this trap in the mini-match you played a while ago?
Please explain ... Steinitz Variation.... What the best respon for black after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.d4 .... My respon its 3...exd4 4.e5 Nd4 5.Qxd4 Nb4....
How is black okay with the position at 10:40 its white to move and with Nxc7 you fork the king and rook, winning a rook? Your knight would be kinda useless but you took a rook and a free pawn
Please can you make a video on how to make the most out of different openings and gambits they are a sort of helpful in blitz games ...ur videos r always informative and helpful . Thanks....😊
Stockfish doesn't consider the human side, it's +0.3 only if everyone plays the best moves, for the position there, it is easier to navigate white's position than black's.
Thanks for the quick reply. But about what you said, can't Qa4+ be met with Bd7, then trading queens and black is better due to development? I think best is to play Bf4 after Nxe5, trade queens, and win a pawn on c7. Or did I miss something?
Nice video. although I prefer the lines recommended by Logozar in his e4 book. The traps you showed, I dont think players above 1700 will fall for that. and I beleive black will be able to neutralize the position if the traps dont work. I would rather play for positional advantage than traps. But very informative video.
This video is as instructional today as it was two years ago. My average, as white, against Petroff's has been mediocre at best, so hopefully, this will give me further ammunition.
The video is great. I have a request. Can you please discuss some middle game strategy of london opening and King's Indian Defence. I face lot of difficulties in middle game in these openings( specially the latter one).
I'm actually coming out with a course on London Opening which covers positions arising from KID. Stay tuned for more updates... In the meantime you can check out a recent stream where I delved into some London Prep against KID www.twitch.tv/videos/273047939

Losing a piece, refusing a draw then winning the game haha what a BOSS
It doesn't matter how many times you fall, all that matters is the times you pick yourself back up
Thx
These type of "lesson" videos are invaluable. Would love to see more of these!
Agreed
invaluable means valuable? what a country!
I'm just a noob 1,4k rating chess watching an IM but Eric's explanation is so down to earth even I can understand

this is a much better upload than just streams of games! Love you that share knowledge!!!
I love this kind of video, this kind of video on the CCSCSTL is where I found you. I'd be super here for more of this kind of video!
It's SO fun to see this video from before you became the Stafford's Pope
As a medium/beginer player, I really enjoy this kind of openning examination. Cheers from France, I am really impresed by your playing.
I showed this Opening to Awonder Liang when he was 8 years old. Awonder just played it in the 2022 U.S. Championship, and got a Draw against the #8 player in the World, Caruna.
Thank you for this -- I ran into this for the first time yesterday (as a 900ish-level player) and got comprehensively taken to pieces!
More of these kind of instructional vids are appreciated.
Very good video! Thanks Eric! Please more lessons and especially tricky openings :)
What a beautiful tutorial! Please teach more tricky trappy openings and lines!
Nothing like settling down to an Eric Rosen video.
Love these type of videos! Great job Eric 👍
This must have been before Eric found his one true love: The Stafford Gambit (which is a variant of the Russian Defense/Petrov Defense).
Yeah that kind of stuff we want.not theory or line memorization. Hope you will upload some creative stuffs like this with your experience

Interestingly my homefish doesn't even take the piece rather plays bishop e6 to safeguard from the check.
Please give us more opening like this

3:40 what if white played f4 instead of bishop f4?
I love this kind of vids. Thanks!
Amazing video Eric!

I can’t even remember mine from earlier today 😭

Whats the best response when white plays Qxe5 rather that dxe5? happened to me today and I felt like I was just lost.
Brady Lu Check it with an Engine
Eric: white is doing quite well
Stockfish: +0.3
???
Stockfish doesn't consider the human side, it's +0.3 only if everyone plays the best moves, for the position there, it is easier to navigate white's position than black's.
Loved it !!. keep it up
maybe it's just me, but does Eric look younger now than he does in this video?
Petroff or Petron? Maybe Petrov?
Great video! Can you make a video giving advice on playing games while down material? It seems like you often will lose a pawn or piece and still win.
What about reverse Stafford
Instead f4 white can castele queenside with back rank mate
Great and informative video!
hmm what about 8... Knxe5? 9. Knd5 f5 i mean not fav for black, but not crushed (yet) either
Isn't the guy called Petrov? (instead of Petroff)
I just wanted to say that the analyst says f5 is playable after nd5.
The Spegee looks like f5 can be met with Qa4+

How many moves deep do you Masters calculate in blitz games like 3|0?
I saw a 100 moves. With none having me winning
12:22
What if:
14... Re8 15. O-O-O Rxe5 16. Rd8+ Re8 17.Rxe8#
Edit: nevermind
great stuff
Interesting video about a cool Opening for Black. I really love most of your videos, but this one has several inaccuracies.
12:25 wouldnt long castle be better because then they cant take the bishop because of back rank mate and then you can save the bishop
This video is as instructional today as it was two years ago. My average, as white, against Petroff's has been mediocre at best, so hopefully, this will give me further ammunition.
Which software is being used here?
I just got this line in a lichess game as black! Almost move for move until I won the bishop 😁
