    I caught a late October swarm in a nuc and the queen from nowhere that just showed up with 500 bees ,within a few weeks she’s got the nuc headed for great patterns and success , first time in 52 years of bee keeping that I caught bees in late October 😮🎉

    Experienced the same issue with trying to find the queen the other day. After 25 or so minutes, decided to take a closer look at the deep box that I set aside...sure enough, that's where she was. Found her just about as quick as you did on the frame you set aside.

    God Bless you Daryl, you're killing me, all those bees around you and you are so calm, lol. The way you shake those wooden pieces, do they leave you alone for the most part? Also, are you gonna leave that queen in that clip? Did you see all the bees coming out of the bottom front hole in that new box you brought over? This is so cool to watch. Thank you so much for this, my daughter has been sitting here watching with me, I'm so glad there are things like this for her to see, and I have looked at other but you are right to the point and you present so well. Take care..Anne

      I had a virgin queen come back and get stuck in the top feeder box. Also had a laying queen notorious for being found on outer frames. Not sure why they would ever go there except for running out of laying room. We make jokes about that queen.

    I just had a small swarm of bees get in an empty nuc from a dead out I just cleared out , the double nuc sat out for 3 days before a swarm move in , I’m just gonna feed it all winter I guess , it was all empty frames fully drawn so that’s a plus I guess , I am just gonna try to keep them going, it’s probably almost 2 pounds of bees

    I would feel rich if I had that many bees in one hive. I know what darryl is doing, it just seems to waste a lot of bee resources. Some way to make three new sets out of this many bees I would think that would winter fine. course here it is already in the 30's, and my bees are holing up.

    Just wondering if you could add a brood box, nip off the queen cells and drag up 3 or 4 frames into the new brood box to add in extra space. Have you tried that before? Did the bees just make more queen cells? Just wondering what options we have going into cooler seasons.

    • @dfishman76
      @dfishman76  7 лет назад +2

      ramana andre probably many things you can do. I do know this way I know I want loose my queen because they fell like they swarmed.

    • @cornerstonehoneybees2525
      @cornerstonehoneybees2525 7 лет назад +1

      I'm not fishman, but.. .
      Once they start building queen cells, it's is almost impossible to get them to not swarm. The best thing to do is exactly what he did here - split the hive. This is in essence an artificial swarm. This way the bees will think they've already swarmed and you don't loose your good queen (nor the population of bees).

    • @dfishman76
      @dfishman76  7 лет назад

      +Cornerstone Honey Bees only problem doing what you stated ramana if it does not work they will swarm and you run the risk of loosing your good queen. This way you keep that from happening. Not saying to other way would not work I am just saying I am not willing to try it and loose that queen

      You have the queen and she is just that the queen of the hive she controls everything. Drones are the males of the hive. The workers and nurses Bees are all females and they are the backbone of the hive. Numbers very depending on the size of the hive. Could be a few thousand the tens of thousands

    Hi Daryl, I'm not understanding what you mean by "they're ready to swarm"? They want to leave? There are more queens growing?

    • @dfishman76
      @dfishman76  7 лет назад

      +Brandy9160 yes when bees get over populated they make queen cells and the queen will leave the hive with 50% or so of the bees and go find somewhere else to start a new hive. The hive the left will hopefully requeen them selfs with the queen cells they have made and continue on. Does not always work out that way for many different reasons but that's the way it's suppose to work out

    I'm kind of lost as to how you place the queen in the nuc. Do you just move the nuc away from the area and let her loose or do you keep her in the clip? You also mentioned a queen cage, so which would you keep her in and for how long? Thanks, I really learned a lot from this video. I have bees at the ranch but they were infiltrated by Africanized bees and attacked us, our dogs and our livestock. It was terrifying, they wouldn't stop chasing us. The other hive is also very aggressive so I haven't had the courage to check it. I will have to eventually and have been told that I need to replace the queen and kill the old one. Not sure if that's true or I have to get rid of them all. Anyway, I caught the swarm at home on Tuesday and the swarmed again because the queen had remained on the tree trunk. I recaptured them and put them in a nuc box overnight and got a ten frame hive box but only put in four waxed frames and a feeder with sugar water. The bees are up and around but they haven't done anything. At night they are all bunched up on the upper cover and only a few on the frames. I'm not certain what to do at this point, since a lot of flowers are already blooming but we still have a month of winter here in south Texas. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for such an awesome video.

    • @dfishman76
      @dfishman76  7 лет назад

      +Letty Torres there is a queen clip and a queen cage. For the NUC I used a queen clip. The difference in the 2 is with the clip the bees can get to the queen, with the queen cage no one can get to her. You only use the clip in situations where the bees are already use to the queen. If you are introducing a new queen to a hive/colony you will need to use a cage because you don't want them to get to her before they get use to her. If you order a package of bees the queen will be in a cage. As far as the aggressive hive you have yes you do need to requeen those hives. You will need to go in to them kill the queen and introduce a new queen in a cage. It will take the 3-4 days to get use to her and not try to kill her. I have a few videos out there on how to catch swarms check them out I am sure you will find the answers your looking for as far as catching swarms is concerned
