Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"
"but, that's not all my 180 min four chord song..." that made me spit out my tea lol
That and the 10.000 dead family dogs lmao
Even his joke songs are better than most out there.
Ed Hye yeah honestly I was kinda like dang I wish he would actually release this😂
@@davislankford8718 Same. Just from the bit he does here, I think he could probably produce a hilarious parody album.
Entirely true…
Came across this bit at just the right moment. I needed a laugh, having just played “if We Were Vampires” at my dad’s memorial. Jason, you really do write the best sad songs. 🥲 So glad you have a sense of humor to go with that talent.
Right??
That's some mad talent. He actually writes amazing (and some sad) songs, but also has a sense of humor. Bless your soul Jason Isbell!
"On triple cassette and Tidal - the two saddest music formats known to mankind."
SHOTS FIRED, KANYE
isnt tidal jayz?
Jay-Z owns Tidal.
Isbell just announced the release date for his album covering bands from Georgia. One of the platforms it'll be on is Tidal.
I love the chord he's holding. I think it's a G demented minor.
"You may know me from music" - Hilarious!
I saw him live in Grand Rapids, MI recently and it was incredible. If you get the chance, go see him. You will not be disappointed.
A sentient tractor wishes it could work harder
Drunk at custody hearing
The old closed down skating rink
Layoffs at the baby shoe factory
A man from the city is mean
Oh no! Another civil war!
Twin brothers have buzzsaw accident
Grampa thinks his grandson is Hitler
A clown has to retire
Toothless dog can’t bite burglar
Pregnant lady reads sad book
Honor roll student experiments with liberalism
A father outlives his lawnmower
The entire plot of “A Farewell to Arms”
Local magician’s funeral
Frankenstein attacks a preschool
Thanks! I love Jason Isbell and I nearly peed my pants reading those.
-
Tru rly amazing
Thank you! Saved me some play/pause/read action :)
You’re a hero 💙
I love it. Proud of him here in North Alabama!
you should be
I demand that Jason release this 180 minute 4 chord collection IMMEDIATELY.
I'll buy a fucking cassette player, if that's what it takes!
"Elephant" is up there.
+Rollin Kocher amen
a father out lives his lawnmower is a lot better...
So is 'Children of Children'
I'm with you, elephant is the saddest song I ever heard, but I LOVE the song.
Rollin Kocher Well now it's "If We Were Vampires"
"Cartoonishly tragic down-home scenarios that my fellow singer-songwriters are much too cowardly to tackle." 😂
This is pure gold. "A father outlives his lawnmower" HAHA.
Still better than anything Luke Bryant has ever put out
😂
Never heard of her
Jason making fun of himself. Very humble.
Ha, love the opening line.. "So I'll raise up a whiskey with my unemployed hands, as the banker man knocks on the door."
That would actually work as a song where i am from.
Even his joke songs have good lines.
I think that's kind of the point. Isbell himself has written serious songs that aren't too far off from that.
Somehow, even the homeless always have enough money for whiskey.
This is the most epic parody / mad libs thing ever. Even still his turns of phrase shine through. It reminds me of the last verse of "You Never Even Call Me By My Name" by David Allen Coe
You may or may not know that song was written by John Prine and Steve Goodman, not David Allen Coe (though he famously sang it).
Prine didn’t want to be credited for it, because he didn’t want to offend country musicians. Hilariously to some, country fans embraced it, and had Prine recorded it himself he may have had an entirely different, or less obscure, career.
"Paying a Veteran in liquor to shoot your dog." Thats gold
Did I miss that line in this bit? Or is that from something else?
Same question. Damn hilarious regardless lmao
No boys that is real life experiences I observed as a kid in Arkansas.
While this is a cute parody, Jason Isbell is, without a doubt, one of the finest songwriters there is. It’s like he’s the incarnation of JohnnOrine - only JP isstill around.
An inspiration to all of us who write songs.
we all know that David Allan Coe sang Steve Goodman's perfect country song.. "You Never Even Called Me By My Name"... but Coe requested an additional verse .... because the original could not be perfect as it did not have 'mama..trains..trucks..prison..or gettin' drunk'.... so...I just want to make sure you have included all these prerequisites ... seriously... looking forward to anything you put out... enjoy them all immensely...
deemail100 Here's some trivia for you. Steve Goodman and John Prine co-wrote that song but John insisted on leaving his name off and giving it all to Steve. With the first royalty check he received, Steve bought John a juke box as a thank you.
@@susanmruk13 True story.
Dude could make anything sound good.
Isn’t that the truth!!
8 years later and still hilarious.
"A man from the city is mean" " a sentient tractor wishes it could work harder" "honor students experiments with liberalism" " a father outlives his lawnmower"
Is it just me or is this a song I wish existed, it sounds pretty good id listen to it lol
Same I’m back here to hear it again
this song is better than all of country radio today!
Just call me Tragic Cannon Accident
I would buy this song in an instant
This better not be a joke!!!!
+Dom Hartley Bought a cassette player especially
+Dom Hartley 😂😂😂😂
Considering Southeastern is a 9/10, I'm pretty sure Isbell has struck gold on this one
So sad it will make the speakers fall right off your doors.
You know me from music. He is so good on twitter.
"Has to work Saturday" is pretty sad, too.
I thought this would just be Jason singing Elephant
Even when poking fun at yourself Jason, you're awesome. :)
His comedic delivery of the vague word "papers" is spot on. He could do sketch comedy or host SNL if he was just a bit more popular.
Isbell is an absolute Sad person.
He’s right! I do know him from music.
I want the album
Bruce Haslitt i
180 minute four chord song 💙
It’s beautiful
Frankenstein attacks a preschooler😂
So sad😭😭
"The entire plot of Farewell to Arms"
This made my day!
I was waiting for the best thing in the history of the world, and here it finally is.
This is gold.
I'm not crying yet.
+Ren-Chan then listen to leaves from the vine, if still not crying repeat(and perhaps learn the backstory to the song).
Hey now, "Frankenstein Attacks a Preschool" is a Those Poor Bastards song.
I'd still buy it
Daaaaaaamn that was a cold dunk on tidal.
I'm beginning to think this isn't a real recording .
I love this man I really do
This is awesome!
I'm laughing the laugh of someone who knows she'd totally buy that album without remorse.
"Honor Roll Student Experiments with Liberalism" lol
"The entire plot of A Farewell to Arms" 😂
I'd buy that for a dollar.
I'd buy it for seven dollars more
Fine! I'll admit it...you can make me cry for any reason...whatsoever ...anytime...anywhere. I can own it.
Twin Brothers have buzzsaw accident lolololol
Legend
hahahahaha LOVE this! hilarious. "Dying family dogs" LOL hahaha
I'm really sad about a family dog that died recently, and those jokes made me laugh AND think of her with love.
I know this is supposed to be funny and a joke... But why does he make the songs sound so damn good!
Sadly, I have both a cassette player and Tidal...I would buy this in a red-hot minute!
Cassette player/recorders were the absolute height of personal music system technology, and their owners were as proud as could be to own them, at one time. OMG OMG OMG: double cassette autoreverse. Whatever's the absolutely most prestigious music player/recorder system right now will be obsolete junk for sale for a few dollars in Salvation Army thrift stores' audio/video aisles eventually.
Layoffs at the baby shoe factory... fucking gold.
A sentient tractor wishes it could work harder
Drunk at custody hearing
The old closed down skating rink
Layoffs at the baby shoe factory
A man from the city is mean
Oh no! Another civil war
Twin brothers have buzzsaw accident
Grampa thinks his grandson is Hitler
A clown has to retire
Toothless dog cant bite burglar
Pregnant lady reads sad book
Honor roll student experiments with liberalism
A father outlives his lawnmower
The entire plot of "A Farewell to Arms"
Local magician's funeral
Frankenstein attacks a preschool
"But you may know me from music" XD
Goddamn his lyrics are still lit in this bit
That is funny as shit! I am so glad to see a sense of humor
I'd buy it.
"You may know me from music."
Genius
He's not only a member, he's a member!
Yup.
🤠
I'd say that Elephant is probably the saddest country song ever, it's bad.
Listening to that song after a death in the family is like taking enough Klonopin to kill a man twice your size.
+Geoff Burrell I understand that reference
nope search dress blues and watch the live version at the saxon pub
This may have been true a year ago, but "If we were vampires" has dethroned it!
I don't see "if we were vampires" as a sad song it's about how knowing what you have to lose makes it that much more valuable. In my opinion it's about gratitude for everyday they have together. Just my opinion though.
Somebody help that poor man!
I want Jason and John Moreland to have a "sad song-off" and see who can make more people cry.
Moreland and that song "You don't care enough for me to cry,"...... nuff said
That was like Country Flight Of The Conchords
I wish this were real... I would buy it. I'm sure it would be in 10 easy installments of $19.99 each...
"180 minute, four cord song" hahahaha
Where can I purchase......this ain't on spotify....
hahaha "Honor roll student experiments with liberalism"
That's not liberalism, it's revolution!
@sick boy So, you haven't had your fill of competition and greed...
Bam!
"A father outlives his lawnmower" hahahaaha
Does anyone know the chords? =)
Dude is effin funny 🤣
"Honor roll student experiments with liberalism" haha!
That no good banker man!
A man from the city is mean.
Too doggone funny!
He’s already written the saddest song. It’s called elephant.
Damn the dog song hit different
I can't tell which made me laugh harder: 10000 dead family dogs, or tragic cannon accident.
"All that depression nonsense!" Hilarious
I'd buy a cassette player for that
@jason your a blast. just found you
The saddest.
I can't wait to hear A Clown has to Retire.
Now we agree to get married and bring a child in from the tender loving care
Her parents are hard working and support with sitting and child care.
We have a savings account to educate the daughter that's clear
Our nation is a good one
(Chorus)
Now that we sit on the porch with an iPad and blue tooth headphone
Our grandchildren are grilling in the back yard and looking after our cares
It's turned out a good one as we see full employment
And the community all working and saving to show other nations is clear
(Chorus)
(Chorus)
(Chorus)

Not sure if this is meant to be a joke, but jesus these are awful lyrics.
"you may know me from music" HA AH HA HA
