Doug, this might be my favorite BAMB yet! It offers no quarter for the cowardly, and for that I am grateful. The unspoken expectation that we must always bend to the left and never to the right is absolutely true. What happened last week with the SBC, demonstrates the metaphysical certitude of your argument. Thank you, sir!
This is such a critical distinction. The difference between a taxonomy of belief and the emotional process of influence evolution. DeYoung is right about the taxonomy of belief, like so many educated evangelicals. But what I see so often in myself and people like him is an inability to rebel against the laugh track game. Most of the people I want to reach are on the left of me politically. And so I think of them as I try to be winsome. But this shapes what I say, and more, what I don't say- and I can see the slide. It is definitely fear of harming sheep I want to reach, and having a righteous but useless ministry that tempts me to hypocritically speak empathetically to those to my left, and to correct harshly those to my right. People on the right don't complain nearly as much and they take the criticism and stick around. In my experience, people on the left complain more, spread their complaint to others more, and leave quicker. The left has activism baked in, and conservatism longsuffering and accepts a tragic view of things. The are patient, and therefore easy to ignore and take advantage of. I appreciate DW's push back on this,
"The priests of Baal are castrating boys and mutilating girls." Hard words but true. We are living in the days of Ahab, and we need more Elijah's (I'm sure he was a hard 4) 😉
@@nateboy123 Hi NateBoy 123, reference1 Kings 16:29 thru 2 Kings 10 it shows what once was a God fearing culture ("Christian Culture" if you will) that now apostatizes into a post, Christian or even an anti-Christian culture. Culture, society, and government b-com increasingly wicked and radical (Baal worship consisting of child sacrifices and homosexual orgies in the temple) are praised, celebrated, and protected by the highest echelons of government (The King). You can see the parallels for modern times. Our government praises, celebrates, and protects abortion (the killing and dismemberment of babys) and the homosexual lifestyles, hence Doug referencing doctors who cut off healthy teenagers breast b/c they feel like they were born to be a man (mutilation), etc. Elijah didn't compromise. He was counter cultural simply for holding the line of God's standard and rule. He would not soften his message or appease culture (or 1's, 2's, or 3's) to Doug's point. Hope that was helpful.

11:00 Yep. The pouncing element, reminds me almost of fighting between couples. One apologizes for doing wrong, the other apologizes at getting angry for the other being wrong.
Abby Johnson makes the point that she was not drawn to those who screamed at her, dressed up in the Grimm Reaper costume, or called her “baby killer” in angry loud voices. She said those who prayed had more of an impact. As I have listened to her, though, she speaks truth about abortion in specific ways, describing in detail the process of abortion and how Planned Parenthood operates. She does call abortion murder and admit she did wrong, all the while reaching out to those in the industry who want to leave with humility and grace. I think when I listen to you, I hear someone who uses words in a shocking way, sometimes I think to make your point more strongly. Your point is taken that we need to be more bold and stop trying to appease and so lose truth and our witness. However, I still hear Abby Johnson in my mind saying that we need to be approachable.
1 Contrite: “Look at the church’s complicity in past and present evils. We have been blind to injustice, prejudice, racism, sexism, and abuse. What the world needs is to see a church owning its sins and working, in brokenness, to make up for them and overcome them.” 2 Compassionate: “Look at the many people hurting and grieving in our midst and in the world. Now is the time to listen and learn. Now is the time to weep with those who weep. What the world needs is a church that demonstrates the love of Christ.” 3 Careful: “Look at the moral confusion and intellectual carelessness that marks our time. Let’s pay attention to our language and our definitions. What the world needs is a church that will draw upon the best of its theological tradition and lead the way in understanding the challenges of our day.” 4 Courageous: “Look at the church’s compromise with (if not outright capitulation to) the spirit of the age. Now is the time for a trumpet blast, not for backing down. What the world needs is a church that will admonish the wayward, warn against danger, and stand as a bulwark for truth, no matter how unpopular.”

My first time through, I kept trying to figure out the numbering thinking maybe it was an ennigram reference but nothing was making sense. Maybe nothing makes sense at midnight though so I tried again this morning after reading the article. While I appreciated KDY's cheerful labels, it's concerning to me, as a firm footed 4, that 1-3's are clearly seen as the more compassionate and contrite. The spin being that if I'm courageous, maybe what I'm lacking is the above adjectives. The call is to calm down and come off the ledge--or else..... There's no where to go from my 4ness but down. It took a few runs through this piece of linguistic eviscerative art to clearly understand what was a 1 versus a 2 versus a 3 versus a 4 (without reading the TGC skubalon, excuse me, fine article on how all us poor unwashed orthodox fundamentalist should modify ourselves and our behavior to be more palatable to TGC's idol: the world). As with so much of all discourse today, this numbering system overly simplifies the complicated spectrum of those who claim the name - Christian. Doug, however capitalizes on this over simplification to make his own point that appeasement is the path of folly. Let the tone NAZIes be warned that, much like the hurricane season, "No Quarter November" has come early this year. Maranatha!

the same argument can be used back against Doug - he is playing to the audience who either loves to hear him speak and smack the woke, or baiting those who hate his points of view. and i don't see Doug inviting anyone with a call to repentance; more like a call to be forced to conform immediately with his views. i appreciate that he gets it right on many of the present culture's woes and evils, but i don't see him hoping for his enemies to change. if Doug has little compassion for people suffering in their blatant sin (there is no ultimate enjoyment in sin, and watching others sin), then he should repent.
@Gerald Har. In my view, the 4's are not representative of the best of Christ's thought. What they are is faithful enemies to the 1's and the 2's, which is a good thing, since 1's and 2's can hardly be placed in the Christian camp with any reliability...and thus his point of not making them leaders. I would place myself as a 3 or even a 3.5, but I would change one aspect of DeYoung's analysis: a bright line in the sand needs to be drawn between 2's and 3's. Threes must be willing to forswear any longing glances leftward. There must be no temptation to placate those besmudged by secularism. I don't particular like 4's, but I am in league with them in ways I am not in league with 2's and will never be in league with 2's. So what I'm saying is that I agree with you. I think 4's, in general, have a practiced lack compassion. They believe it to be essential to holding the line against liberal drift. Well, it's not! Compassion doesn't make one automatically humanistic. There are plenty of 3's (at least I hope there are) who have ABSOLUTELY no temptation to appease the 2's, and find utterly no appeal in moving leftward culturally.
Quality breakdown. Disagree w/ the therefore conclusion @12:06 however. I think too often some, not accusing you, don't play to the cloud of witnesses, but the audience in 4 or what they imagine the 4s would think. Would we believe that Jesus fits squarely into any of the camps? I do not. I see him tapdancing his way through all. For now, 1-3 perhaps have some cultural acceptability, and 4 are the only ones who are shunned. For now, I might add. This corporate evangelical response is perhaps something that 4's share in common with Christ, but I believe too often, 4's playing to their fellow 4's, convince themselves that they are shunned for the same reason that Christ was. To quote the not Big Lebowski, "you're not wrong Walter, you're just an asshole," I believe can at times fit on some 4 (of which I am a vagabond member) more than faithful aroma of Jesus Christ being the sole means of my/our rejection.
Nothing new under the sun. Never ending debate as to whether the Gospel of Jesus Christ is sufficient for Salvation and the remedy for self serving debates, complaints, and offenses. It gets to be tiring after a long day at work, and the temp outside pushing three digits.

I have watched my use of words more and more , just so it will give (them) one less thing to complain about. I have also thrown at me that you(me) believe in the death penalty! Nadia is shockingly outright raunchy and I was a sad that she passes as a believer and has followers….in light of her being disobedient to scripture in a myriad of ways. But Jen Hatmaker has a following so there’s that. I don’t know the definitions of Kevin de Young scale but from watching this I gather that I am a hard 4. I can’t standdddd when people twist clear scripture and God had to teach me to love😂
And in the meantime, men continue to exit the church in droves and, IMO, this is why they do so; 3s hiding behind their faux righteousness. I believe it to be funny how secular men are talking about the principles biblical manhood, womanhood and marriage all the while cursing up a storm but pastors act like wilting violets. “He said the ‘c’ word. Oh, my!” What a joke!
You are too intellectual in your speaking. I don’t have a problem with that but Jesus talked in Everyman terms. Your intellectual speaking loses the Everyman. I’m guessing. Stop getting in the mud with these over-educated idiots. That’s exactly what they are. You aren’t reaching them and the Everyman is getting lost in your words. Just say this: The Bible, the Logos, Jesus, is the authority. If they don’t agree, if they want a different solution to “problems” then they aren’t true Born-Again Believers. They just aren’t. Don’t waste your time with them. Jesus didn’t address the Pharisees with intellectual wordiness. He spoke in plain simplistic language.
It's starting to sound like Doug just likes to hear himself speak. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of the things he has to say in these and other videos. I've upvoted him on several things. Much of what he says and does is commendable. However, he seems to want to come across as very pithy and witty and sound "smart". His somewhat monotone reading of the teleprompter isn't becoming and is boring. These are coming across as Doug is all about Doug even when he's right, which is often. I hope I'm wrong, but in Doug's theology if he's wrong then it's God's fault anyway. I ask myself why these supposedly consistent Platonists (Calvinists) and Arminians would care about any current events anyway since they think everything is "fixed and certain". When they're not thinking that way and actually thinking biblically and actually believing the biblical narrative they can be okay at times. And don't lecture me with your Platonist satanic tripe. I used to be a Calvinist. Calvinism and Arminianism are both rank heresies. Have a great day.

A 4 here, trying really hard not to be a jerk.
What are 1’s, 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s? What does that mean?
Likewise. I can't imagine it's the heresy of the enneagram.
A sliding scale of woke (1) to Wilson (4)
Hi! Here's the link to DeYoung's article:

Wow.
1? 2? What is a 3? 4?
Doug just use scriptural words, know that some are to be so sparingly. For example I too ask preachers not to use the word “sex”, when “lay with a woman” does well.
I'm a Christian prepper who at this point has no church home. "Tinfoil" Christians need not apply at any church around me.
Start your own.
@@LawlessNate I've seriously thought about starting my own home church, but that takes time, energy and resources. You don't make friends when you believe and act on what others don't.
@@foghornleghorn262 That's all true, but Christ never said following him would be easy. Pray about it.
@@LawlessNate I realize following Christ can have a price. I will start praying more intensely about my situation. Thank you for the imput.
Kinda confused at the 1 to 4 thing...
Brother, you just keep letting it rip!!... If you're passing out food to the undernourished... It ought to have plenty of vitamins and minerals in it!! 🤣🙏
Anyone near Laurel, MS?
What was the point of calling out Sam Albery? Was that a slap or a friendly clap?
Given the Revoice conference, probably a well-earned slap.
Sam is a homosexual who has been exalted by the SBC leadership and many others. They must hate him to treat him so falsely rather than helping him.

Yes, sir!

Lol considering he is reading a blog post he's already written, yes, ironically
I have watched my use of words more and more , just so it will give (them) one less thing to complain about. I can find a word that describes what I am describes without it being colorful I will use it. Someone once told me that the Gospel is offensive already! I have also thrown at me that you(me) believe in the death penalty! Which I could care less ,if the criminal rotted in prison , but in doing that when in my prolife discussions, they can't throw the death sentences at me, you are approving in killing someone , now that discussions, is out of my prolife discussions abortion is a far greater issue!
Lol! Republicans pounce! What a joke from our mainstream medias! :-P

1's , 3's, 4's...??? You referenced 3's in your comment, so maybe you know what DW is referencing with these numbers. Would you explain?
@@donotneedtoknow7541 He's referring to Kevin DeYoung's article at The Gospel Coalition, linked in the description.
I’m a reasonably intelligent person, but for most of this video I have no idea what the hell he’s talking about.
Saying such things behind a pseudonym isn't very brotherly. But then again you did just kick everyone else out of the kingdom so no...you HaVe A nIcE dAy.
@@edwardclark8273 You missed the point and offered no refutation of the points I made out of concern and which were not condemnatory. You can check my channel and see that I do not hide behind a pseudonym and I am a bible-believing Christian. And nobody can get "kicked out of the kingdom" once they're saved.
@@GodsTruthMinistries _"...supposedly consistent Platonists (Calvinists)..."_
Could you unpack this? What part of Calvinism is Platonistic? Especially given that we believe in the resurrection, glorification, and God dwelling among man on a renewed earth. Such beliefs speak against Idealism, Gnosticism, and similar beliefs others try to accuse us with. Or is that "supposedly" indicating that we aren't Platonists?
_"I ask myself why these supposedly consistent Platonists (Calvinists) and Arminians would care about any current events anyway since they think everything is "fixed and certain"."_
How does your claim about our view holding that everything is fixed and certain account for our claim that God established human free will and the liberty and _contingency_ of second causes by what he ordains? (Westminster Confession 3.1, 4.2)
@@oracleoftroy "everything is fixed and certain" .... our claim that God established human "free will" (yeah right) and the liberty and "contingency" (yeah right) of second causes "by what he ordains" (Westminster Confession 3.1, 4.2)
There you go. Self-contradictory. It's heresy and slanders God.
Do you believe that God can learn?
Dug, you are tedious and petty. I'm glad you afflict your brethren with it. Christians squabbling amongst each other is the best.
