  • Thousands gathered at Béal na Bláth to commemorate the centenary of the death of Michael Collins.
    In a historic ceremony, both Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tánaiste Leo Varadkar spoke at length about the importance of Collins to Irish history and the legacy he left behind.

      @@Ligerpride he was an aide de camp. No evidence he fired a shot at the Brits in his life. Emmett Dalton who was with him at Beal na Blath said if he had experience in battle he wouldn't have been killed

      I really think you must be from the moon or I don't understand what you mean. Michael Collins was a true fighter, fighting to free our country from the Brits that made life hell for Ireland. We had them for 800 years and fought all that time.Maybe you are living on the moon or was never in Ireland before. My father fought on the side of Michael and when he heard Dev talking on the radio he said (shut that B**tard up)you haven't a notion what you are talking about. Up the Republic .

      @@maureenmccarthy4204 Michael was one in a million, we would still be under British Rule if Rebel Cork & Men like him weren't there. My Father was with the Rebels in Cork & fought with them. He could tell my brother Michael all about this. When Dev came on the radio in later years he used to say " shut that BAST**D up. My father was a great man, honest & decent and he knew what he was talking about.
