Yeah this kit is old and may not be accurate, and the parts fit may be fidgety, but building it and having it turn out like this, that's what model building is all about. I remember when this hobby used to be fun. You bought a kit and just built it. You didn't care about accuracy, you probably wouldn't know if it was accurate or not, you didn't care, you cared about the end result. You did a fantastic job. I did build this back in the 70's or 80's. I got one sent to me in error a couple of years ago. My plan is to make is a Fleet Air Arm machine flown by a Canadian serving in the RN.
Built this numerous times in the 70’s. Cut my teeth on modelling with Revell’s 1/32 scale line up. You did a great job on the build but I’m having problems with the accuracy of the paint scheme. It’s your build and you can paint the damn thing however you want. I paint as accurately as possible. Thank you for the posting! Love The Whistling Death!
To be honest, I followed the instructions on the color scheme, didn't do any research on my own. I tried to reproduce the paint scheme as accurately as I could, based on the booklet alone. At any rate, thank you for watching :)
Bravo! Great video, and great music too. I have this kit in the post currently, and this video has given me inspiration. Thanks and look forward to the next one.
Great job on an old chestnut. Those molds are darn near 50 years old if not 50 by now. Over the years, there has been many boxings with various decal options, but I think they nailed it with the tri-color scheme with the red surrounds. Looking forward to more of your builds.
I have seen other builders lay down a coat of interior green on the outside of the canopy frame first and then the coat of outer paint. The result makes the canopy frame seem painted on the "inside" the same color as the rest of the cockpit.
At some point I thought of doing that.. and then I forgot about it and painted it straight away... It's a good idea and I should do it on my next builds! Thank you for the comment! :)
Yeah, I built that years ago, in the 70s. I see the parts fit is no better now than it was back then. A shame to invest all that time and have a sloppy parts fit detract from the finished product. If I do it again I'll try a different manufacturer. Back in the day this was as good as it got for me. My Uncle got me interested in modeling, He was 7 years older than me and I'd look forward to going to his place (grandparents house) after school on Tuesdays. He would be listening to what is now classic rock (got me interested in music enough to learn the bass and play in bands in the NYC tristate club scene) Sometimes I'd fish out a kit he got frustrated with from the trash and save it and other times he would buy me a kit too.I was in 5th grade when I started. Thinking of getting back into it. The last kit I built was the Hasegawa Feissler Storch , that was a few years ago. Hey, I love the musical choice!
Thank you for watching. I chose this model cause it was one of the few 1:32 corsairs available at the time.. and at a bargain price.. I didn't know it would be so bad.. The alternative was the 6 times more expensive Tamiya kit.
I am half way thru a build of this kit. I see where I could make a mistake or two..or three....and you saved my 'bacon' because I caught my upcoming blunders !! I am determined to "fold" the wings...wish me luck.......and shhhhh.......but I use water colours for tiny interior "bits and pieces", as in the cockpit, applied with half tip of a tooth pic. Thanx for your help !! I thought the 1A didn't have a floor !! ????
The wings do fold but they shake and rattle like a baby's rattle... Very small degree of precision there.. I made them folding as well but they don't look as good as i'd like to, hence I chose them to stay down. Thanx for watching ! :)
I've bought this kit five times over. I ruined one as it was damaged over the years, second ive built the full Aircraft minus the landing gear. I tried to remake the cockpit even though at first glance it looks great but its a mess and very cramped quarters. I tried but failed still unfinished. Ive started on another but i think I'll just build it as it is straight from the box. I have tried to customise but im not a professional modeller. Its a nice kit and there is a cockpit Eduard set for this but nothing for the empty wheel wells. Unfortunately. But overall very nice. Ive yet to see the build.🇭🇲✌️
Nice job. Not sure about the chipping if I want to do that to mine. I have two to build. This one and the 1/48 MARINES version. But I do like your color selections. I would have done the cockpit canopy frame in flat black. It would stand out more.
I was so disappointed from this model that I decided to use it as a test field for miscellaneous techniques... It was the first time I used hairspray chipping, extensive preshading, oil washes and so on and so on... The canopy frame was a failure altogether, since the color is way different from the rest of the fuselage. Thanks for watching :)
That's a good job on that simple model. Lots of work done especially with all the coats of paint. I take it the first bare metal is an undercoat. I was wandering the dark sea Blue was not dark enough and the underside is supposed to be white not light blue. However it's a nice finish. I have two of those to build I think I'll just build as they are. If I worry too much about details I'll make my self sicker than I am. Watch out for the colours if you build another. Sea Blue, intermediate blue and white underside.👍🇭🇲🦘✌️
I am relatively new to this hobby but enjoyed this video. I have this model on order. It arrives Friday. I am a little disappointed to hear about the shortcomings of the model. Looking forward to trying the hairspray method.
Hey Gordon, thank you for watching. It was my first time for the hairspray method too but I guess it didn't turn up too bad... Apply some hs above the aluminum layer and before you apply the base color... after it dries, brush it off with a short hard brush.. I hope it works for you. As for the model itself... do lots of dry-fitting before you cement the pieces together... and have your sanding papers handy ;)
Before watching this video, I was considering taking another crack at this kit. After being reminded of the detail work I would need to do, I've opted to pass. Lol. Great work on the paint job, I like how that turned out.
Yeah... if you go for super-detailing, this kit has your work cut out for you... Not much of it initially.. and if there was any, it was buried under the flash. Still, give it a go... seems like you like a challenge :) Thanks for watching! :)

nice work! one thing, you didn't detail the exhaust outlets on the bottom of the front fuse behind the cowl. they aren't anything more than stamped impressions of the pipes, but could have been painted dark with soot trailing away down the fuse. keep up the great work! Daz
It’s made that way for the landing gear to be short and sturdy while still providing ground clearance for the propeller. It also improved pilot visibility on take offs. Putting him closer to the deck.

Everything is awesome about this Corsair, except for one thing: US Navy pilots did not wear blue flight suits in the Pacific Campaign. They'd wear a light khaki flight suit and headgear plus black shoes.
The correct colors for USN/USMC tri-color camouflage are Sea Blue (ANA 606), Intermediate Blue (ANA 608) and Insignia White (ANA 601). Sorry, but it really bugs me when people paint models (or even actual warbirds) in inaccurate colors. Glad to see another modeller to whom the paint job is all the detailing needed. An artist, sir.
you are a fantastic artist...what you have done with a $3.50 kit from the seventies and straight from the box is nothing short of remarkable.

This build brought back memories from the 70’s when I first built one. I remember those folding wings were a challenge
They still were, even in the '20's !
I remember it too, back then my kit was dark blue and I couldn't get the wings working so I ended up just gluing them on so they can't be moved...
