I've been saying that for 3 or 4 decades . Why can't we have this kind of music again !! WHY CANT WE HAVE NICE THINGS !!!! Like everything else now !! Everything sucks !!
Back in the day , and I’m 66 too. My twin brother actually bought this 45 , it was produced on cardboard! Yes ! We would play this to death until the needle wore a hole right through it. Dancing in the kitchen!!!
You have to feel it in order to relate to it these soulful songs just gets deep within you it’s like a faucet once you turn it on it’s difficult to shut it off.
I was 12 years old when this song heat the local radio station, WHBF Evansville, Indiana. I’m still listening to this music at 68 and the best gets me every time. Brings back good memories.
@@Leatherbro Let's be charitable and just say we love Martha and her Vandellas (whatever that is!) kick-ass songs more than the more subdued Supremes output.
@@freeguy77 Let's keep it real, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas were "singers", the Supremes were not. The Supremes were what we would call "glamour girls" at best.
Heatwave was always my favorite until I heard Quicksand. I was a senior in high school.Wow, does this song take me back. Thank you Martha and the Vandellas
Why this song did not reach number one ( it hit 8 ) is beyond me. Better than heatwave. This song has it all. Great vocals of course , a groovy rhythm and just an all around fun type of song that makes you feel good. It was just what people needed in November of 1963. An incredible wealth of music and talent came from the 60s and 70s. It would take me two decades to list it all ! When there were real musicians and singers. You knew talent as soon as you heard a song. Today , a lot of people with a computer and a few hundred dollars think they have talent . I am considering ear plugs to go with my mask . Yikes !
If you're going to follow-up "Heat Wave," you can't do better than this. Whoever's on the piano ought to receive a Grammy for their performance on both hits. I believe both of these great songs were written by the incomparable Holland-Dozier-Holland team out of Motown...absolutely WONDERFUL songs...
For all of you who stop by, I will never be able to explain how wonderful it is to be 16, to live outside Philly (or I'm sure Detroit, Chicago etc.) at a school dance and have everybody (all your buds all the girls you liked) take to the floor to dance in unison to this stellar performance and other Motown and Philly hits. Long before disco.... Its what being young is all about... regards
Lucky you!! I was starting grade school when all these great songs came out, but, did dance at home when we listened to them on the radio or my aunts and uncles had albums and 45s and we'd go over to their house and listen to them there.
Do not know if you still remember this 80 year old white girl, you all taught how to dance in the ladies room. What fun, those were the days! Love from, Lori! Married the love of my life 50 years now!
It did not get any better than this... soul, rhythm , funk and harmony ! I personally think this song is one of Motown's most soulful, listen to the sax playing while the Vandellasharmonize. WOW !
My favorite Martha Reeves & the Vandellas song. Takes me back to summer of 1989. I wasn't born when it came out in 1963/1964. I came in the mid-1970's. Not much to listen to in the late 1980's (except for Janet Jackson and Soul II Soul). Still a nice and sweet song in 1999, 2009, 2014.......and in 2019, 2029 and beyond. Thanks
Reminds me of getting pulled over, hand cuffed and bent over the trunk of a Pontiac while an officer rabbit punched me in my side....but my toe just couldn't stop a-tappin'. Ahhhh, the good ole days.
QUICKSAND.WOW. just a lovely lovely song. where's our oldies.somebody please tell me where to find them.we need them. QUICKSAND.sinkin deeper in love with these songs.YES.. help us find our oldies please...ok..
Nice, also I hear that outstanding up-right bass player, he/she makes that instrument talk, hitting those low bass notes with sheer perfection and keeping perfect timing for all, a true professional.
It is common for artists, whatever the music genre, to follow-up a huge hit with a similar sound to capitalize on the initial success. Usually, the follow-ups are forgettable, and occasionally they are embarrassing. But, Ms. Reeves and the Vandellas, Holland-Dozierd-Holland and the Motown studio musicians could never be forgettable or embarrassing. Yes, it is similar to "Heatwave," but it is also a terrific recording.
I love Quicksand much better than Heatwave...in fact I like In My Lonely Room much better than Heatwave as well even though each charted progressively lower than Heatwave. I found Heatwave a tad to gimmicky for my personal taste.
There will never be music like this again. Pure Soul
Keep Listening Keep Listening Keep Listening Can't get enough
Never ever ever ever ever ever again

Let it all go
I was 18 when i first heard this song, now am 77 and still think its great.
73 years old and still bopping to this. I dance alone in my living room. Neighbors just look at me and say "amazing"
Same here at your age!!

Quicksand.
This song rocks _ "Quicksand Baby"
Just think when this music was playing times were simple but great good memories this music will live forever.
My all time favorite Martha sang the heck outta this song!
A SONG AND SOULFUL GROUP THAT WILL ALWAYS BE REMEBERED
2023. Still brilliant.
Classy ladies with real voices.
LPMSSP your name a mouthful, but I agree your sentiments.
These girls could sing and that is one thing another girl group at Motown couldn't do. These girls represented "sophisticated soul" at utmost!!!
Still love their music. Motown will never loose its hold.
Or even lose...
Highly underrated female group!!! I liked them much better than The Supremes who got more exposure for reasons we know. Timeless music!!!
These girls were far more "naturally talented and talent superior" to the Supremes.

Heatwave was always my favorite until I heard Quicksand. I was a senior in high school.Wow, does this song take me back. Thank you Martha and the Vandellas
Same for me !! That horn is mesmerizing
The funk brothers the Andantes and Martha&Vandellas voices rocked.❤❤❤❤
What a song. What a group. Hope to keep them in my heart forever.
One of greatest records of the 60 s

Totally agree with all that. 100%
@@jamesframpton8120 Also agree. This is my favourite Vandellas song.
Loved when it was new-still loving it.
This is the record as we heard it on the radio in '63.
Tuff 'n Tender
I was at Camp Las Pulgas in Camp Pendleton. It was so remote that it really was a pimple on the Marines' ass.
Im 26 and i grew up listening to nothing but 50s and 60s. Its the best music and wish music was still like it today.

YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN OR WHERE YOU WILL FIND TALENT. MARTHA BEGAN HER CAREER AT MOTOWN AS A SECRETARY. THEN HER INCREDIBLE VOICE WAS DISCOVERED.
Fantastic voices!! This jumping beat with the hand clapping in the background heightens the groove in the song. Great music from the Motown era.
This groove has stood the test of time.

This song never gets old. Just wanna dance, dance, dance!!!!😊
Yeah Yeah ..love this ALOT❤.
Quicksand 😉

These beautiful gals.. really had something special.
Indeed, they sure did, sadly they never got the cover and recognition they surely deserved.
This was my favorite song, I remember my uncle james playing this and then my brother got the album. I played this song repeatedly!
This songs takes me back to the days gone by. Happy and yet so sad.
"It''s not safe loving you this way.......but from your arms i can't stay".....ONLY Holland Dozier Holland could write such TORCH song lyrics!!!!!
