I've struggled with all my clubs except my irons (hybrids, driver, fairway woods... just feel awkward and I can't get a good strike on them), however I do strike my irons well so I've put a 2 utility iron my bag as my primary club off the tee (Sub70 699 pro bent to 16 degrees). It for sure doesn't get very high off the ground, but it rolls out forever and I'm only 15-20 yards behind my driver so my approach shots aren't crazy. The only times this is an issue is when I need to carry a hazard or on long par 5's, but that is rare for me at the courses I play. My driver swing speed is about 96, so I'm not crazy fast, but I can carry my 2i 180-190 and it rolls another 30-40 yards since it's fairway all day for me. I love it.
I'm a trail leg amputee, learned to hit with my lower half static but it's a power killer! Trying to switch to the thunder step to get more out of the longer clubs! It'll come just have to exaggerate for awhile to get it.
Hopefully getting out for my first round with my son today (weather permitting)😊 and I’m hoping that I can use it as an opportunity to work on my swing vs paying attention to score
I don’t mind hitting my long irons, but I need to hit from 6 and down with a bit of a cut because I’m a natural draw hitter…if I don’t, then I’m guaranteed in the woods on the left. Don’t know if this is a phenomena or not. Pete?
Pete, I love when yo get down on your belly to describe loft at 00:01:35. I thought I was looking at a Hobbit, holding up some human golf clubs. Great comedy. How did you come up with that?. Classic. Keep em coming.
I'm 70 yrs old and love the game. I have a very difficult time getting my long irons in the air and for any distance. Watched U tube vids till I'm dizzy. So many different instructions, opinions, and techniques. None really worked for me UNTIL I did this one simple fix. In my long irons that are in my bag, this includes 4-6 I went to a senior flex shaft. They have a lower kick point, are more forgiving and I can actually hit the irons decently. Just sayin
5iron is EXACTLY where my game falls apart. 😂 Here are my numbers, and they get hilarious, believe me; all numbers in metres total; •59°-90m. •54°-105m •49°-125m. •44°-135m •9i-155m. •8i-175m •7i-185m. •6i-200m •5i-200m. •4i-200m •3i-200m. •5w-220m •D-260m. 😂😂 have look at those diabolical numbers once I get past a 6i. 😂😂
When I finally got a decent swing I had very similar numbers. PW,9i, and 8 were the easiest and most consistent. I was using what felt to me like a tennis backhand to hit down on the shorter clubs and compress the ball and it worked pretty nice with the high loft clubs. As my swing got better the 6i or 7i range became a favorite. Got sort of stuck in the same pattern you posted. Then I started feeling a different wrist action on the 6i or 5i and when I embraced it the long irons came to like. The feel was in the wrists more like a forehand or hockey slapshot than a backhand like I was feeling before. I was delofting the shorter irons and then when I would do the same on the long ones I had no launch even on good shots. Hope any of that rambling might be useful to you in your next session lol.
@@ryanshafer10 Hey thanks man! Appreciate it. I work in the golf industry and regularly hit the simulator, so I’m gonna try out your advice. I also think i might need some easier to hit irons under 6i to be honest. Bigger head, graphite shafts etc Thanks again!
Starting a new job this morning and I get to watch Pete on my way in... it's a good day
Good luck with the new job
Congrats man !
2 weeks late but good luck on your new journey!
Those repetitive demonstrations of both good and bad motions are brilliant. Thank you for this Pete.

This is a great idea to hit long irons with shifting weight to target, super!
Cheers, I put a 7 wood in my bag a few months ago and love it! I am putting a 9 wood in this weekend, hoping it will be an easy 200yd club.

Awesome you're playing though! Kudos to you.
7 iron is my longest iron, 6-4 hybrids and driver. Never got on with woods off the deck. I love my 6 hybrid.

7 Woods are awesome good height, great carry distance land soft with minimal roll out. It has become one of my favourites in the bag 👍
Peter, could you do a lesson on the backswing, with emphasis on the first half of it? Thanks

I'm all in on hybrids.
The highest iron I have is 5 then it goes to my 3 hybrid I stopped using 4 and 3 irons years ago 👍.

I like to have the swing thought of "it's a buttery 9 iron" when I have a longer iron in my hand. Helps me anyway.
Yep, I swing at about 85% to 90% then when I need more I have it available.
Some loft on that pitching wedge, Pete!
I just bought new Cobra irons including a 4 iron. I can hit the 5 Iron reasonably well but the 4 iron is a nightmare 😂🤦
I found the same with my new clubs last year. Replaced the 4i with a 4h and I love it. It’s the most consistent club in the bag.
The think the g is silent in long :) unless you live on lonG island, New York.
Long irons are hard , it's why they invented hybrids
7 wood is always the better option!
Lefty here: no 7 wood with stiff shaft avalable to try out anywhere in the region...
I had that problem also being a lefty had to take a chance, ended up purchasing a Qi10 stiff shaft same as Pete had in this video it's a great club.
@@kedge2833 question is if I then should also replace my 5 wood to have the same. Do you have a 3 wood too?
I got rid of my 3 wood to inconsistent for me anyway just have a 7 wood atm considering whether or not I should get a 5
@@kedge2833Theoretically a 4 wood would fit better between 7 wood an driver, but then again, nowhere to test it...
I hit my long irons better than my wedges
Use a 7 wood

Oh goodie, Saturday morning Swing Quest Tip. Another swing thought to ruin my Sunday morning round 😂
How long before Pete ask you to subscribe or smash the like button?
9,7,5 fairway woods- bye bye long irons.
SIR PETER FINCH
whats up with the horrible dye job on the beard?
No amateur should have anything above a 4 iron.
