I spoke about "staple length" forgot to explain that means the length of a lock of fiber from the fleece of a fiber animal 🙂
Also, I was totally wrong about the Harlequin sheep and how they were selected! Here is a link to the Harlequin Sheep Society:

Very happy to have found your videos just recently, and looking forward to working my way back through the catalogue. I'm new to spinning over the last year and a bit and am looking forward to working on spinning for socks. I currently just use drop spindles, so I expect I may take longer than the spinalong. I've learned my default 2-ply is quite a thin laceweight, so I'm also working on spinning a bit thicker and planning to spin a 3-ply, which I hope will be good for socks! As a new spinner I'm still exploring different sheep breeds, and I have yet to spin with blends, so I'd love to be entered into the prize draw.

Where have you been all my life??? I will so enjoy participating in the sock spin-along,, I have spun for socks once before for my husband. It was a wool mohair blend, and he put a hole in it almost immediately. Fortunately(?) they felted on the soles and the hole never grew. He still has those socks, though he machine washed them and they are unwearable now. I loved the feel of making those socks from scratch, and look forward to this spin-along.

You’re so lovely. I am a new viewer. I learned of your channel/podcast from Lisa, the Soulful Spinner. I have spun for socks, but on spindle only. My wheel intimidates me and in 2024 I want to challenge myself to become a wheel spinner. After hearing about this spin along, I watched your last two years’ videos and dug into my stash to look for a suitable fiber. I have some raw (washed) Corriedale, but it’s not combed yet - so I’m going to use some Polwarth top. Amazingly, I received some brown alpaca fiber at my last fiber guild meeting, so I’m going to use my blending board to create your ideal blend and probably diz it off or just pull it off into little nests. I’m excited to start spinning on my wheel intentionally! Thank you so much for hosting this spin-along. And we got almost 4 inches of snow here in central Virginia and I’m loving the cold weather! I’m originally from the north…

Hello! I am brand new to spinning for socks. This will be my first time trying that. I've been wheel spinning for about a year (I don’t even have a default yarn yet.) My spinning hopes and dreams when I started was to be able to spin my own yarn for my hand knit socks. So, here I am.

Oh this is exciting! I've been following your channel for a while but didn't catch this last year. Not many spinners are actually knowledgeable about sock yarn (it's not easy!) or if they are, I haven't seen them talk about it in some. I gathered my courage last year and spun my first sock yarns. Two of them I knit into socks, the third one is still in a skein. But the socks are really nice and seem to be durable, too - I'm so proud of myself 🤣
My project list is so long that I'm not sure I can find the time to spin sock yarn now, but I'll be following with great interest!
Oh, and no prizes for me, I'm in Finland and sending anything this far away is crazy expensive. Besides, as it happens, I have a big bag of Finn under works, and another bag of Kainuu grey (another Finnish landrace) which is even more heavenly than Finn 😊

Hi Carey...I've been enjoying your podcast for so long. I am going to try and participate this year. I have some Jacob that I will be spinning, and I will be spinning some Icelandic/angora for my toes. So excited! I haven't spun yarn for socks in probably 10-15 years. My favorite resource for spinning and using my spun yarn is Homespun Handknit as well. It's an incredible resource for the person who likes to use their own spinning. Thanks for the encouragement to get back to my spinning, I'm participating from Northern California. Please include my name in the drawing for a prize, please 😊

I love watching your spinning for socks series. I'm currently mid-project (sock yarn) on my wheel and about to prep and start my 2nd bobbin. Haven't decided if I'll just spin that or start a whole new project.
Just realised I was knitting on my first hand spun socks while watching. 🧶🧦

I am brand new to spinning, trying to educate myself with research before I jump in the deep end! I love knitting socks and am trying to use natural yarns without nylon. I haven’t found this an easy task. I would have never known that you could use alpaca, silk or angora bunny for heels and toes. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

Hello Cary, thank you for the lovely episode and the inspiration, I have been a knitter for years and have a particular love for knitting socks but just recently decided to learn to spin-so everything spinning is new to me and this is the first time I’ll join the spin along. Have some Corriedale at home, not a blend though. I would also like to join the give away. Thank you once again for the inspiration and am looking forward to Jan.24😊🌸

Thanks so much for hosting this spin along. I’m a new spinner (less then a year with my wheel) and looking forward to trying to spin sock yarn. I’m going to aim for a 3 ply and hope it doesn’t become a bulky yarn 😅. Please add me to the draw for the fiber, the blends sound lovely and I am interested in meeting up with Finnsheep.

I am new to spinning and just found your podcast! I am originally from downriver Michigan. I was given an antique wheel for Mother’s Day and learned how to spin on it last summer, self taught and haven’t done much but looking forward to honing my skills so I can make sock yarn. I am addicted to knitting socks and always have a new pair on my needles!

I think I subscribed just after the start of the first sock spin along. I still feel relatively new to spinning, and I don’t knit (my eventual plan is to loom knit socks or use the origami sock pattern to Tunisian crochet some) and I found your channel when I was researching alternatives to a nylon sock blend for spinning.

Hi Carrie: I'm so glad you are hosting this spin along again, and I'm planning to participate. I've done quite a bit of spinning but have never spun for socks. I do have some alpaca, angora rabbit, and all kinds of wool fiber. I'll be putting it together for the kickoff on 1/24. Thank you!

I am not a new spinner but I have not spun fiber for sock yarn. Going from the usual commercial yarn used for socks I know it needs a tight twist and the fiber in the yarn needs to be strong. I am not sure I have any mohair or (?) that I can use to blend into the wool fiber I have to make a sock yarn -- hmmmm... hope to join in with you all. Thanks for all that you do!

Hello Cary. Many Birthday blessings to you! Your wool display is beautiful! I will be looking through my wool roving this weekend to see what I have available to spin. Maybe I will find a little angora to blend in?🐰

Hi Carrie, I gave it a go last year but didn't finish as I felt I couldn't get my spin right. Definitely want to nail it this year 😊

Hello, I am new to spinning. I am learning both with a wheel and a spindle. I have a traditional Ashford double treadle wheel. I have learned to knit socks but I have not made anything yet with fiber I have spun. I am so looking forward to this. Thanks

I did spin for socks last March using some BFL/silk blend, Targhee & Polworth that I blended together and then spun into a 3 ply Crepe Yarn. I've been wearing them pretty regularly around the house as they are a bit thicker than my usual socks and I love them. I'm looking forward to trying some other breeds and blends this year!

I’m excited to participate in your sock spin along. I’ve spun for socks, and knit just one pair several years ago, and I’m looking forward to making another pair.
I’m very interested in your basket of fibers; I’m very intrigued by your Bunny Toes fiber.
I’m wildiris on Ravelry. Thank you!

I’m a very new spinner (I got an eel wheel this past September) and I’m still over spinning it. I am hoping to get better at spinning and I’m also very excited to use the braid I got from my son for Christmas for socks. I’m going to have to start practicing spinning again to get ready for your spin along. I’d be delighted to win your prize pack! I heard about your podcasts from the Soulful Spinner. 🤗
