Whoever was responsible for the design of the GT40 is a legend, and seeing as how futuristic the black one shown in this video still looks... he is like the Steven Hawking/Einstein in the automotive world.
I saw one downtown in the summer and made me literally blurt out "Holy f#ck!" and I heard the slight growl as it was cruising to the red light. Sadly, the driver didn't zoom away and it just kept the low growl going until it disappeared from sight. Oh, and I just noticed how freakin' tall and wide the rear tires are. This car and it's rear tires/hips are so badass and reminds me of Batman's Tumbler from the new movies.
When I was growing up. This was my dream car. Actually, it still is. It's just that it would not do me much good. There is no place to put a wheelchair. There is no other American-made race car that can match its beauty. But that's my opinion. It would definitely have to have the 427ci.. The sound is incredible. And the bubble on the roof. It is called a gurney bubble. Because Dan gurney was too tall for the car. So they added the bubble, so that he could fit in the car. Also, when Dan gurney won the 1966, 24 hours of Le Mans. He shook the bottle of champagne and for the first time in history sprayed the bottle at or on people next to him.
+Scott Hill Where there is a will, there is a way. If I had the money for the car, I would figure out how to get my chair on it, in it, or just drag it behind. lol Some of these new chairs have easily detachable wheels & store in a very small space. Those could easily fit in the passenger seat if you are alone.. If you ever carry a passenger make them retrieve the chair from a rack the back. Nice tidbit on the champagne.
shananagans5 I have thought of having someone follow me with a van that would hold the wheelchair. The most difficult part would be getting in and out. Having someone lift me. Would be a serious backbreaker. There are vehicles that I own that are a lot easier to get in and out of. You can check them out at musclecargaragedotcon. I cannot give you the actual link. You have to substitute the dot with a period and then com.
Good story, But it was two kiwi drivers that won the 1966 race in the No2 GT40. = Chris Amon, - who went on to be a Farrari factory driver,in F1 & Sports cars. Bruce McLaren, who went on to build his own F1 team & Sports cars in Canam with the other Kiwi Denny Hume ,, The difference betwen the Kiwi car and the american drivers is that they ran Firestone tyres and the yanks ran GoodYear,.The car was also painted Black, the same as our world champion ,All Black Rugby Team
Ken Miles and Denny Hulme really won the race, they were over 3 laps ahead of Amon and McLaren, Henry Ford told them to slow down to let the other 2 cars catch up so they could have a flash finish. They slowed them in the pits and the French had to show them the rules, the car that traveled the furthest was the winner. But everyone knows who really won the race. Miles would have been the only driver to have won Sebring, Daytona and Le Mans in the same year. Sadly he was killed testing the Mk4 shortly after the Le Mans mess.
GT-40 FTW! STILL one of the greatest supercars ever. 0:13 - that's a bit more nose dive under braking than I'd expect, though. Superformance has taken a fair bit of creative license with the shape of the MkII nose, though: the "chin" is wider (heck, the originals should have been this way from the start!) and the "humps" in the fenders over the front wheels look just a tiny bit more exaggerated. If you compare pics of them with the original cars, you'll see what I mean.
At Rye in Victoria Australia Roaring Forties make exact replica's of the GT40 for around 100k key turner or 60k do it yourself. They're fantastic but use the modern ford V8 for compliance.
Have you had a close look at roaring forties gt.well I have that's why I brought a super formance''roaring forties cars are not finished well there noisy' rattling'look good if you don't know what you are looking at.im on my second superformance'ive also owned a 2006 gt...do yourself a favor spend the money
Beautiful car, but yes Hot Rod kind of lost their way for quite a while with very expensive cars and also high hype consumable products. Their audience could only drool at the cars and then buy waxes and gimmicky oils. Not a business model to be proud of. Not real hot rodding. Thankfully, their "Roadkill" family of shows took us back to our hot rodding roots and, I believe, brought greater profitability back to the aftermarket and Hot Rod.
Fantastic car, just don't park next to another car or let one park next to you as you'll really struggle to get in and out. The door with the roof attached will see to that - no sliding in :)
You can get it with A/C. The new GT is an evolution of the Mark I...this car is a Mark II...that said the Superformance takes you back to "new" originals. Old cars can't really compete with contemporary ones...particularly for comfort.
the interiors were loud and hot with the engine right behind you and no AC. the tachometer is right in front of you and the speedo off to the right. These were the closest thing to a street legal F1 race car that will ever exist. Pure bad-----ass. this is, was, and always will be the best car ever made. Art form function and spirit.
I recognized that south african dialect immediately. Awsome build pitty prices and bad roads in south africa make it too expensive and unpractical to own one.
That being said u can't do better than Rousch engines, especially for road racing when I was a kid I didn't know who Shelby was yet but but I knew in road racing I always wanted to drive for Jack...just listening home talk in interviews he was a sharp guy and that was obvious 30 years ago...THANKS
one of these beautiful cars will probably cost you a good 90 to 100 thousand, not to bad but still expensive! id love to own one in my life, who knows maby i will hit it big one day and get one, ill just have to keep dreaming.
Affordable? Well that’s relative. True, they don’t cost the millions that an original cost. But to duplicate that,$150-$250,000 is not out of the realm of possibility.
Why? Why AWD? Pretty good how it is. Anyway, if you do want one, build it. Certainly wouldn't be impossible (wouldn't be easy either but depends how bad you want it) Seriously, hoping a big 3 manufacturer will build a specialised version of an already specialised car is hoping a hell of a lot..particularly when nobody else is asking for it.
MagicAyrtonforever, designed and built just 18 miles down the road from where the AC Cobra's were designed and built... All this talk of the all American racing cars without mentioning that these cars were actually from the South East of a little corner of England...
God bless it already, you guys are totally full of it. The GT40 basis came out of Dearborn in the form of the Mustang 1 concept. MOST OF THE REAL WORK HAPPENED AT KAR KRAFT! The Mark 4 and ALL the GT40S. Nothing so called strange on the books I have in my library. The SAE papers, The Kar Kraft story, Shelby American etc. By the way fellas I own a 2005 Ford GT and a new 2019 GT in Liquid Blue. Also personally know the Ford Family. You wanting to put it down claiming it's not American or truly a Ford product need to shut the hell up until you know what you're talking about.
@ John Walton - that's no words of wisdom, it's hasbara dude. Mossad would be pleased. Here's some lessons on colonialism : suppose I go and claim Siberia is mine and have the military might to back it up. I can plant wheat , open mines , log timber, fish the rivers etc etc with cheap local/imported labour of course, I would then be very very rich. Ever heard of Harry Brooke...? The White Rajah of Borneo . You can blame it him, and Tom and Dick too. I am always amazed when people LIKE you try to educate me.
If you all agree with me and you have what it take, i mean those who hve what it take to make it happen. OK--OK--WHAT IS IT??????-------I would like to see FORD make an ALL-WHEEL-DRIVE GT-40.
That engine doen't have 500+ HP anny morre, it had out of the box with fuel injection, but those guys put one 2bll carb on it brining the power way down. I thought the original had 4 carbs but i'm not shure. Still it is a very nice replica
Porsche 917 was turbocharged. they changed the rules where Ford couldn't run the big 427 V8. put a turbo on that big 427 and the mk four would have ate the Porsche up.

Block 427 they were right 4000 pounds Carrol said so this is about have the weight...nice work and engineering....not ur average kit car u might say....if u did notice....no body put a ROUSCH motor in a cheap copy...thanks
You couldn't think for yourself to look for a ford motor at a ford dealership? If you are asking that kinda question, then you can't afford it anyways.
Whoever was responsible for the design of the GT40 is a legend, and seeing as how futuristic the black one shown in this video still looks... he is like the Steven Hawking/Einstein in the automotive world.
I was a youngster when I got hooked on American V-8 power
Would be cool, if they resurrected the mighty gt40 mk4 also!
they have :)
I saw one downtown in the summer and made me literally blurt out "Holy f#ck!" and I heard the slight growl as it was cruising to the red light. Sadly, the driver didn't zoom away and it just kept the low growl going until it disappeared from sight.

😆 🤣
That's 1/2 the cost of my house.😲
Very nice production, folks... Great product!

The Superformance GT40 has AC.
Great Car! The New GT is more my taste. I like the look and it has A/C and a better cabin.
Opinion on the 2017 Ford GT?
and breaks down every 5 minutes, and guzzles gas like no tomorrow.
You can get it with A/C. The new GT is an evolution of the Mark I...this car is a Mark II...that said the Superformance takes you back to "new" originals. Old cars can't really compete with contemporary ones...particularly for comfort.
Sat in one of the replicas at a Nascar race when i was fourteen. Holy shit they are nearly impossible to get into!
"A Team of experts to put an engine in" Give me a break... Easier than a Caterham 7 that is to put in!
The most beatyful car...
Sorry dude wrong post but loves the GT 40 .
respect from south africa!
Would be nice if hot rod figured out how to focus their cameras
What transaxle did they use??
the interiors were loud and hot with the engine right behind you and no AC. the tachometer is right in front of you and the speedo off to the right. This going viral
that black GT40 racing around isn't a GT40, it's a GT43, for those taller people, the bump on the roof clearly shows that.
I recognized that south african dialect immediately. Awsome build pitty prices and bad roads in south africa make it too expensive and unpractical to own one.
Love the GT40 but this is just a bit of a log add for the CAV car. The Tiff video is a bit better. Less South African sales men to start with.
+inlineschool This is a Superformance, not a CAV. Tiff did a video on a Superformance.
That being said u can't do better than Rousch engines, especially for road racing when I was a kid I didn't know who Shelby was yet but but I knew in road racing I always wanted to drive for Jack...just listening home talk in interviews he was a sharp guy and that was obvious 30 years ago...THANKS
Keep the heritage and history alive? Lower the prices and ill consider it.
This would be a good show if it only had more rapid panning and zooming.
roaring forties make the best gt40 replicas
Exactly, I just posted up top that in Rye they make the best GT40 replica's. For 100k too last time I checked.
one of these beautiful cars will probably cost you a good 90 to 100 thousand, not to bad but still expensive! id love to own one in my life, who knows maby i will hit it big one day and get one, ill just have to keep dreaming.
I think the real question here is why they put drag radials on the front...
What is the easyer engine/Trans option for this car? Modular?
Hyped vid..
Affordable? Well that’s relative. True, they don’t cost the millions that an original cost. But to duplicate that,$150-$250,000 is not out of the realm of possibility.
I don't understand why anyone buys a GT40 from Shelby at a premium when the same car can be had from Superformance less the badges and many dollars.
The new Superlite GT-R is the one I like best.
Aluminum or fiberglass or was both,????
Does it need some anti dive geometry?
dang... do you havE to remove then engine to change the water pump?
Technically you could do it from inside the cab. But these cars are designed to be pulled apart with a handfull of bolts. It's a racecar.
@r1oot hell yeah carol was a true innovater and american r.i.p.
And how much weight would that add?
Why?
The GT40 was designed in the UK fellas, thanks!
MagicAyrtonforever, designed and built just 18 miles down the road from where the AC Cobra's were designed and built... All this talk of the all American racing cars without mentioning that these cars were actually from the South East of a little corner of England...
Wrong, this a Ford product 100%.
Read the books on it, you will then understand.
@@suzyjohnson4667 You have read some strange books Bob. The only American GT 40 was the last one, the mark 4, the Gurney/Foyt Le Mans winning car
God bless it already, you guys are totally full of it. The GT40 basis came out of Dearborn in the form of the Mustang 1 concept. MOST OF THE REAL WORK HAPPENED AT KAR KRAFT!

Bob Hope where was Ford Advanced Vehicles ? The GT40 is based on the Lola mk6.

200000k for a car that will never be driven...NICE
Ford dealerships can order any roush parts you need. If not there, try going to the roush web site and call them. If all else fails, just google it.
Does it come in rh drive rh shift?
i couldnt even afford one at 1/10th the price..dang...

fuel injection...yea right, its got a carburetor
One day....I swear...
true but against the 917 Porsche even the superb GT 40 was harmless.
And what would be hippest of all would be side-oiler mill with Mark IV body shape circa Lloyd Ruby AJ Foyt 1967 winning car at Le Sarthe
Where can you get that engine from please tell been looking for one
the one that says ROUSH on valve cover..call ROUSH RACING...
can drink to that!
It starts at 4:50 but I couldn't watch it.
That engine doen't have 500+ HP anny morre, it had out of the box with fuel injection, but those guys put one 2bll carb on it brining the power way down.

Why do you think it’s a 2bll?
What the hell is with every car program using the hair band metal sound tracks?
When you are ready to GET RID OF THE ANNOYING MUSIC in the back ground...I will listen to what you have to say
The Mk I looks so much better.
I like the MK1 rear and MK2 hood section. When I build mine. That's what I'm planning on doing.
Porsche 917 was turbocharged. they changed the rules where Ford couldn't run the big 427 V8. put a turbo on that big 427 and the mk four would have ate the Porsche up.
Can I have a 427 aluminum Chevy motor in mine.
Look at RCR replicas in Michigan. They sell them with Chevy mounts and headers. They supplied a lot of the machines in Ford vs Ferrari
why is it that every one on the internet is so rude to each other
Bc humans are horrible. Period

Yea 8 guys i put em in alone use layers of cardboard to protect compartment or frame and doesn't take a team of pros ive done this 50yrs
AWD in a super car? that is NOT American, Rear wheel drive with a shit tone of horse power that's what it's all about.
Yea ive been a rear wheeler all my life can't duplicate it
You couldn't think for yourself to look for a ford motor at a ford dealership? If you are asking that kinda question, then you can't afford it anyways.
I think you meant to say `shit ton ' Shit tone makes it sound like its got a crappy exhaust note!!
(not having a go, mate, just struck me as funny..)
......... an over-priced kit-car then.
Which is Cheaper this car or a Ford GT ! I think I'd stick with the OEM Model !
Blah, blah, blah, blah
its awesome but they look like plastic cheapish kit cars but actualy cost 1204590213510510 dollars..
