The Canarian dog statues in the Plaza de Santa Ana are modelled after the Canarian hounds that were originally on the island when the Spanish settled. Look at the logo for Tropical - it’s one of those dogs. The ‘Canary Islsnds’ name comes from the Latin word for dog, canaria, and was given by the first Europeans to arrive. The story is that when they landed ashore they were met with large dogs on the island of Gran Canaria. The ‘Canary’ birds are named after the islands, not the other way around.

This is because there was a hospital near of them. It was changed to other city place years ago, but pharmacies continue in the same place...😄
