Guys, regarding the counterfeits. People came up to me saying they came to this guitar show after watching my videos. Not everyone is a guitar expert. So I feel responsible for relaying information to you. You need to be aware there are a few counterfeits. I did not speak to the sellers about them, and they probably do tell people they are not real. The no name copies, and appropriately branded copies are totally legal. But having the Fender and Gibson logos on the copies is illegal to sell. As long as none of you guys are getting scammed, I don't give a s*** what the sellers do. It's none of my business otherwise.
I appreciate your candid honesty and for calling out the over-pricing ruthless sellers. I can like the person, but not buy from them. I just subscribed and liked. Thank you for taking me along on your flea market trip.
Just want to say, because of you taking the time to mention prices, and explain what you did at the end of this video, you gained a subscriber. I appreciate your time, videos, and what you had to say.
I want to add, you are correct about Reverb. I frequently go to reverb and ebay, search a product then use filters to find what the item actually sold for. I do not mind paying a fair price and someone making money on that sale but as you mentioned, if they are so over fair price, I don't want to deal with them and will find another seller that will be fair.
Thank you, Mr Coffey, I am a small-time luthier in Canadaland and have found that same thing up here. Over inflated $ for average instruments/builders and astronomical $ for the big names. The main folks buying guitars are musicians. We are broke af people. For ths vid, I happily became a subscriber.
Of all the guitars that I have repaired or rebuilt the one I miss the most is the Fusion Blues FB700, sure it was Chinese, but when I was done it had the sweetest sound and played really fine. I bought it for $30 at an Ohio antiques mall, I put $200 into it and sold it a year or two later for just over $600. The best deals are the ones you can tinker with.
An Urban guitar!! My local dealer had one used once, and I was looking at it - then he said "That guitar isn't for you" which is his code to me "It's basically junk." When I got home and did a deep dive on them, I saw what he meant. I've been dealing with him for years, so he takes care of me.
I Modded a Gretsch 2420T,By Vintage wiring it with PIO,.022 Vintage tone caps, with better CTS 500 k potts!Instead of those chicklets and mini potts and plastic wires😮!Took me like 3 to 4 hours to do!It Rocks!😊Take care!
Thank you for posting your videos from the flea markets I enjoy them. I have to agree with you that many sellers are overpricing their guitars. Buyers beware of what you are buying do your homework on prices before buying anything!
Good video... I collect guitars & "items related to the 2nd Amendment". But you're 100% correct on pricing. Last week, I went to my favorite guitar store/pawn shop & bought a perfect Taylor mini w/gig bag for ~$400. A few months ago, I bought an (Epi) SG (w/ the Bigsby) at a lovely price. The store owner operates on lower margins & higher volume. He does really well, mostly with loyal, return buyers. (Just like Sam Walden & Amazon) These guys (& the smaller gun show operators) need to take the hint... Lugging a bunch of $200 Squires back & forth, hoping a cash heavy buffoon will buy then at $800/each? That is a loser's game.
Man, I wasnt going to comment on your video - this being the first one I watched, I didnt want to be negative, but your closing comments put me at ease. I buy and sell gear - have for years - and I was like - what? It initially looked like a gathering of pawn shops trying to sell their old, over-priced inventory. I did see some quality items in the video, but I couldnt agree more about the pricing. The sellers are going to drive business away from the flea market if they dont change their approach to pricing - no one is going to invest time and money into going to a Samick guitar museum next to a dusty parking lot in the Florida heat. If you cant buy anything, you are mainly a spectator and that wouldnt be anything worth my time to browse. Worse yet, it hurts the sellers with good inventory and fair prices - they get washed out in the frustration, or they get caught up in people shooting low offers based on what they are seeing in the over-priced stuff. One last thing, and I make this comment with the utmost respect to the builders and those that customize branded guitars - take the time to learn how to paint or pay someone else to do it for you. So many great builds and customization that is just ruined by crappy paint/finish work; orange peel, drips, waves in the lacquer, etc. Thanks for making the vids. I need to catch up on them. The guitars I though were the most cool were the Gibson Goth guitars. I am a sucker for cool inlay work!
As a Luthier who has been featured in Guitar World magazine and that largely does unique designs, I must say, the majority of this video I thought boring and a waste of time the FIRST time I watched it... BUT, after watching the final 10 minutes < I RE-Watched the whole thing again !! GREAT! INVALUABLE lessons at the very END!
I’ve got over 60 guitars, Fender, Airline, Silvertone, Kay, Supro … really cool, old original gear. I would love to sell them at fair prices but buyers are really, hard to deal with. It makes it easier just to enjoy my gear and just hold onto it.
I've had a few Dillion PRS copies. One even had the PRS bird inlays but PRS threatened a lawsuit so Dillion had to change the design. I wish I kept that one. I still have their Fender strat copy and 2 LP copies. They are very well made guitars.
Yeah, that sucked. Some people complain about the muting. If I do a background music blend, people will complain about that. I almost left that whole section of footage out of the video.
on Reverb you have to look at price guide, it will give you past sales(sometimes they don't have info on the guitar you're looking at) and most times it's less then what people are asking. I've had bad luck on reverb and only buy guitars I can hold inspect and play first.
Just bought a Gibson Les Paul Supreme from Sweetwater. The quality of the finished product was nowhere near as good as my Trad Pro V or LP Tribute. I sent it back. Gibson better get their shit together or they will go under. I will not buy anything I cannot lay hands on ever again. Schecter is blowing away Gibson on quality.
Stumbled across this video. Was stunned to well hear wes first. Crazy I recognized his voice before you even showed him. He is a super good dude and plays in a local band here.
I spotted a Peavey JF 1 semi hollow in red not too far into the video. Funny thing though, the pots are reversed meaning the top two pots are for the bridge pickup, bottom two are for the neck. I own one identical to that. Great player and sounds great!!
I think used guitar sales pricing are like the tulip market bubble. Remember at heart all electric guitars are partscaster. I shopped guitars through facebook marketplace. I found a of good amount of honest to God private sellers just looking to move a guitar. My Facebook find was the US made Fender American Professional Stratocaster in mint condition.
I hear ya on the price gouging. Even on eBay and Reverb ,I see it. Been playing and buying since early 90's. Have gotten the pricing down pretty well on resale. Great vid. Love the channel. Cheers!!!!
Hank Coffey....go to 21:52 marker in this video. You wanted to know whose signature that is on that black Les Paul ? I can definitely say it's none other than George Lynch from Dokken and Lynch Mob band.
I'm with you sir. At 57, playing since i was 5, I would have been there looking for the exact same type of guitars you were there looking for. I would have walked away with all my money still in my pocket.
Also - the issue with that Teisco is that when the Teisco Spectrum V’s started hitting $2k, everybody with a wacky-looking multi-pickup Teisco from that era started to try to cash in, asking stoopid money. Kinda like when Harmony H44’s got expensive, everybody with a boat paddle catalog guitar from that era suddenly wants $1500 for it. Sometimes a POS is a POS.
Yeah, it seems the only high $ spectrums I saw sold was collector condition ones with paperwork? The 2 and 4 pickup ETs are very common. This Teisco was a bit heavy and ugly color, If it were a nice solid color, and lighter, I would have tried to negotiate. The guitar sounded great, intonation was trash though, that's why I didn't play it much.
I had a black Jackson just like that one for 699, but I bought it at guitar center for $149. It was missing a couple strings, but other than that it was in fantastic condition. I really regret selling that Guitar.
Darn I would like to go to this guitar flea market, I just like to look.Actually my dad was a musician in c & w bands.I have to many guitars now (can’t even play) but now I want to learn 5 string banjo so I’m looking lol. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you for the video. How do people pay when they get a guitar? Cash? I am thinking of going to the Anaheim show in January, either to browse or sell, but as a seller I don’t think I would trust anyone if they paid with credit card, for example.
I saw another youtube channel about a guy selling a $95oo dollar guitar and met at a restaurant. His connection was where it was stolen from, another guitar shop and they wanted the buyer to send it to them before they would reinburse him. Interesting piece if you know where Im talking about. Be careful lol hope you dont find any stolen guitars
It was nice running into you, in person at the flea market ! Sure was a hot day, but I did manage to make a few small purchases The wife & I actually spend the entire weekend in Mnt. Dora at an awesome B & B in historical town down. Great weekend ! Big gray beard dude
I love Samick built instruments :-) The 349 price on the Valley Arts strat is about on par with market right now. I have a couple Valley Arts 5 string basses branded Samick during the transition and they're basically the Lee Sklar Valley Arts model but in 5 string (which was never going to get built as a signature model) - so I snapped them both up, and they were both 299 each. Nobody wants to pay more for them but I'm not going to sell them - they're gorgeous, sound great, play great, and except for the logo on the headstock, they're 100% Valley Arts quality.
that Washburn between the Jackson Lefty and the Epi LP. Looks like an early 80s model made in Japan. Probably a better player than 75% of the guitars in that flea market. I had a Falcon from 1980 that I would gladly replace if they hadn't tripled in price....Yes, its not just crazy markup. New they were in the 400 dollar range. You can't find them for less than 1k now. They're outstanding quality instruments and rare. Good luck finding an original Washburn Wing series(not the re-issues from years later) at a flea market, and don't let anyone convince you an original Wing series has a set neck, those are the re-issues. Originals have a sweet neck-thru or bolt-on on the cheapest ones.
Yeah, some cool stuff though depending on what you're into. Nothing I'd be too interested in buying unless they were nearly throwing it at me, but there was probably a couple good finds there.
It seems like there isn't really much selling going on. It reminds me of the old guys gathering in a parking lot to show off their old cars to each other.
Just like the video game market... lots of overpriced stuff that sits forever and then people trying to sell fake games as authentic. Some of those guitars will sit forever...
Those fenders also have the wrong trussrod access. It's some sort of reissue so it'd be on the butt but even if it was at the headstock they look nothing like that. Some of these prices on other guitars there were an absolute joke.
You didn't seem to recognize the famous Rory Gallagher vintage Strat at 26:36 "Here is a relic Stratocaster, Look at it's age" ... 26:45 "Fender copy" or was that a fake? What did the ticket on the neck say? Cheers otherwise, my favorite kind of market walk.
That was funny man, I always say that kindness is not weakness haha I couldn''t see any prices really but that was no big deal Cause your clear acoss the country. ; )
I always look at what the stuff actually sold for in the reverb graph and I look at how long it has been listed for, although that is not always helpful because of reposting. Great video.
Almost every flea market I go to the prices on most items are just ridiculous. Every so often you can find a gem that is priced right, but most of the time markets like that are mainly just an excuse to get out of the house.
Yep! the guy started tighter rhythm blues bars... RUclips's algorithm will put a bunch of claims on my video over that sh. I can't even play covers live here anymore, RUclips will interrupt my live stream. So if mutes are annoying, complain to RUclips about it.
What bugs me the most is most of these sellers don't even have a real store front to kinda justify some pf these prices. Its crazy when I work that event Im cheaper then most and I have a store front. Thanks for calling out them.
Hey Randy! Yeah I feel I needed to stay transparent on this show. People are watching my videos and going there. I am bummed that I didn't go to Bradenton. Those were perfect conditions to make a awesome video. Not good for dealers, but great for video and audio, and nobody IN THE WAY! lol
Why do people bother getting a booth for these? Even the salesmanship of just sitting there and playing ..or sitting like a watchdog. These sellers should know...the prices aren't going to move the guitars for them
Right, and there is a lot of the same gear there each show. They need to have better knowledge of pricing, so they can sell stuff and get fresh stock in.
That still wrapped tele copy (with a p90 in the neck!!) for $100 would have been mine lol. I’m probably a sucker but that thing would have got me good.
That guy with the Teisco was charging more than the music stores are, yeah people are collecting them, but they are collecting them because they are nice guitars but dirt cheap!
Search for your item. Select "all filters". Go to "show only" on the list. Check the "sold listings" box. You can then set the sort to "most recent first".
Nothing that’s not name brand is worth reselling. My bread and butter has been 70-80s Gibsons and fenders because they are cheap enough for me to buy and at good deals and good enough to flip without restoring. I also like the 70s 80s lawsuit guitars bit people want too much these days to try to flip them because they are off brands or non names. I’ve doubled my money being the first person to some of these deals, even if I only make a few hundred dollars it’s better than breaking my back in the mines
Lots of Cool Guitars!Prices not too bad!But Some were,Way OverPriced! But,Nuthin Special!😊But Guitars in General for Me!Are Allways Special! Thanks!😊❤Presentation is Every Thing! Some or most of these guitar guys, dont clean up the Crap in th cases,or smears and smudges all over the guitars😮!Whats up with That!😮
It’s more valuable than you think. Regardless of body shape/finish, Three pickup models ARE much more rare. You mainly see one or two pup models. I’d value it at $700-800.
@@ColeWheeler4Lyfe Hi Cole, your appraisal is the same method as the seller's $1100. Personal thoughts and opinion. The model is a ET-311... I deep dived into the models sales records. Not one in history has sold for over $500 USD. $350-$400 are the more common sales prices. Being vintage and rare, you can pay whatever you want, if you have to have it. I'm not paying over $500 for this one in the video. And any appraisal over $500 has nothing to back it up.
@@ColeWheeler4LyfeI mean, there’s a nicer looking one, semi-hollow, 3-pickup made in Japan. Under $500, Reverb. Also a Tiesco Mayfair 60s sunburst, 3 pickup - $395
I appreciate the artistry in making instruments, but I don't know why folks just try re-inventing the wheel (or guitar, in this case!) Gold hardware and fancy wood looks nice, but you can still make great music with a customized el-cheapo Strat copy.
The Alvarez acoustic is decent. The older Yamaha probably not bad either. This honestly looks like every pawn shop in town shut down during COVID and now they're selling off what they have at the swap meet. I wouldn't pay any more than $200 for any of it personally and half that for anything electric
The flying W was cool, I like all of your previous videos on these flea markets, nice when you tell us the price of each guitar, you could actually turn this into a business,a buyer service for people seeking used guitars, middle man fee of like $50 to 100 dollars, they pay for all shipping and price of guitar, all you do is set up the deal between the seller and the buyer,do not cover the cost let that be worked out, between buyer and seller, all you do is ship after the deal is complete, claim you won’t be responsible for any shipping damages during shipping.
The days of the flea market, pawn shop, yard sale finds are truly over. What a load of shit guitars. And of course the scumbags that buy the counterfeits and sell them at places where there aren't any consequences.
People yacking about the high cost of a good guitar. In the '70s my dad had to pay $300 to get me a decent Yamaha acoustic. Can you imagine? What is that $300 worth now?
Guys, regarding the counterfeits. People came up to me saying they came to this guitar show after watching my videos. Not everyone is a guitar expert.
Great video.
eBay sold listings is usually more accurate for actual value. But I think their listing history only goes back 90 days now.
@@HankCoffey I vote with my wallet, try to stay far away from the bay.
Almost every flea market I go to the prices on most items are just ridiculous. Every so often you can find a gem that is priced right, but most of the time markets like that are mainly just an excuse to get out of the house.
Really enjoyable vid Hank!
Thank you so much Han.
I didn't see a single Conn CS series Stat copies from the 70s. Rare as hens teeth, and I got one.
What's with the muting? Potential copyright strikes on somebody plunking out generic 12-bar blues?
Yep! the guy started tighter rhythm blues bars...
Not good for dealers, but great for video and audio, and nobody IN THE WAY! lol
It looked like pretty good prices to me. If you can find any guitar for 75 or 100 that looks as good as these , you're doing good.
There were a lot of dirt cheap guitars, as low as $10 I saw.
I saw a fender meteora I fell in love with and the guy wanted $1200. New they go for $900. I got once locally for $600. Their prices are all nuts.
You are lucky over there, prices in the UK for a decent budget guitar are just silly, be thankful.
@@edmundblackaddercoc8522 I am man. 🇺🇸
@18:07 That orange telecaster! How much for that one?
He probably wanted around $400 for it. No real deals there.
That guitar builder at 8:53 has a Jerry Garcia wolf guitar kinda vibe. Very nice.
Thanks Hank for sharing the prices. nice to see
The Silvertone with the hatchet head stock would've came home with me, those are great guitars when set up properly.
It looked pretty cool
The Silvertone was a deal at $399. Especially if you play slide!
Novice guitar collector and gigger here - how can I filter the prices on Reverb to last sold? Really trying to find a couple of things specifically
Search for your item. Select "all filters". Go to "show only" on the list. Check the "sold listings" box. You can then set the sort to "most recent first".
eBay Sold Listings are more accurate results for actual Market Values. Reverb listings are high.
Rogue guitars are an in-house brand from Musician's Friend
And Musicians Friend is Guitar Center
6:06 - That’s an Alvarez / Yairi. Nice. 👍
And 27:54 Another one. $$$ 😣
I just sold a double neck Alvarez Yairi DY87
Nothing that’s not name brand is worth reselling. My bread and butter has been 70-80s Gibsons and fenders because they are cheap enough for me to buy and at good deals and good enough to flip without restoring. I also like the 70s 80s lawsuit guitars bit people want too much these days to try to flip them because they are off brands or non names. I’ve doubled my money being the first person to some of these deals, even if I only make a few hundred dollars it’s better than breaking my back in the mines
Before watching, I have ONE major prediction, Gibons and Fenders galore
I am shocked actually, some cool stuff here
Lots of Cool Guitars!Prices not too bad!But Some were,Way OverPriced! But,Nuthin Special!😊But Guitars in General for Me!Are Allways Special! Thanks!😊❤Presentation is Every Thing! Some or most of these guitar guys, dont clean up the Crap in th cases,or smears and smudges all over the guitars😮!Whats up with That!😮
Laziness, and I think most of the dealers do not know enough about the guitars to set them up properly.
first MIM strat is a black label squier, w the squier sanded off
Nice catch. I thought the same thing!
Almost looks like George Lynch's signature on that Gibson Les Paul Voodoo.
Yep, someone said it looks like George Lynch, I think it's him.
$1250 for a Tiesco? OMG!
LOL, It IS a super rare guitar these days... But that is why the guitar is worth $500 tops, instead of $100.
@@HankCoffeyrare doesn’t equate to wanted or high demand unfortunately. I see a bunch of Tiesco’s on reverb for under $500
@@ColeWheeler4LyfeI mean, there’s a nicer looking one, semi-hollow, 3-pickup made in Japan. Under $500, Reverb. Also a Tiesco Mayfair 60s sunburst, 3 pickup - $395
Is there a website for the vendors??
Maybe independently. All the info I know is in the videos. Most don't sell online.
Nice vid!!
Thanks!
I appreciate the artistry in making instruments, but I don't know why folks just try re-inventing the wheel (or guitar, in this case!)
Gold hardware and fancy wood looks nice, but you can still make great music with a customized el-cheapo Strat copy.
The Alvarez acoustic is decent. The older Yamaha probably not bad either. This honestly looks like every pawn shop in town shut down during COVID and now they're selling off what they have at the swap meet. I wouldn't pay any more than $200 for any of it personally and half that for anything electric
Thanks for calling a duck is a duck. And some of those counterfeit sellers had attitude!
I have this 90s jackson with the reversed headstock, ive got a green one :D
Always dig your content, and these flea markets, I want to reach thru the screen, when I see a good one, some 🆒 guitars.
🤣👍🎸.
LOL
I am interested in the Yamaha Pacifica neck if available??
All I know is in the video
@HankCoffey I live in Jamaica so its difficult to find replacement parts when needed.
You need to find a way to have parts shipped to you.
An issue is that most of the stuff there is priced market value or over. The only deals I saw was a few $100 guitars and that blue Jackson I liked.
@@HankCoffey so true,a lot of times I will see a guitar I like, but not willing to pay the price someone wants ,for a used guitar.
@@GuitarDaze2023 Same
Best thing at the guitar show....a Slingerland gold sparkle drum set? Not much else
wish that we had guitar markeds like that Around here!!!!
I'm pretty sure the "Effin' Guitars are rebranded Stagg guitars...
Isn't the signature on the guitar George Lynch ?
Yep, a few others have said Lynch as well.
I'm I the uk love these vids I just have to do the price conversions I my head, nice.
I was there looking for cheap import parts for a cheap beater import I have. Just like every other time I’ve gone there it was an utter waste of time.
Orville Gibson wasn't Turkish... That one seller got lore way off.
The only one I seen that I would of bought was the Kramer, the rest was the usual GC stuff for 2x the price. Good video!
Thanks Jeff!
The days of the flea market, pawn shop, yard sale finds are truly over. What a load of shit guitars. And of course the scumbags that buy the counterfeits and sell them at places where there aren't any consequences.
Isn’t a double neck Flying V a Flying W? Just sayin’
😂
The signature looks like
George Lynch's
Yep, it is. Thanks for looking into it man. 👍
Plenty of counterfeits for sure
On the contrary I love watching repair or set up Guitar videos,
Cool man, my repair videos don't do very well view wise.
People yacking about the high cost of a good guitar. In the '70s my dad had to pay $300 to get me a decent Yamaha acoustic. Can you imagine? What is that $300 worth now?
The point in this video is, everything here can be bought cheaper online, in better condition. Not complaining that a guitar is expensive.
I agree, and I wasn't thinking you were complaining.
@@216trixie 😎👍
21:41 gibson! I love This One!!
Yeah, me too
$1150 for a Teisco? That guitar was $79 when it was hanging new in a 3rd rate department store in the 60s. Honestly, its still worth $79.
🤣
14:00. "It goes to eleven!"
