How to 2JZ swap a Z32 300ZX

- Using our 2JZ swap mount kit we swapped a 2JZGE engine into a Z32 with a Borg Warner S366SXE turbo, Ecumasters classic, and a CD009 6 speed
A few key points we wanted to show you when doing the swap and also the mounting position on the block. Some people can get confused with the VVTI blocks since they have an extra set of mount holes.
We can make more videos like this in the future to help out everyone doing engine swaps. We know they are very involved. Z32 is about an 8 out of 10 in difficulty compared to most of the swaps we do.
Let us know if you have any questions!
Thank you!

Freed products work perfect for this swap! My engine fit perfect with no issues at all!
Buy in confidence. Great company. Great people. Billy has answered a million of my questions!
Eric
Thanks for the support as always buddy!
I love that you guys of all people posted this a day after I pulled the motor for this swap
I would love it if you guys would make more z32 jz swap content.
Anything in particular ?
Like what manifolds to run, setups with different transmission options. Maybe looking over Grabnis Racings t56 magnum setup on a z32 2jz. How to modify the crossmember since yours isn't released yet. Anything like that.
Thank you! This was incredibly helpful to see.
Another great video!
Great video! Can you do some more content on wiring? Like how to wire in the AC, and the OEM dash and radio? Also, could you discuss cooling options?
The best part about your mounts is that they're the ones grannas had in mind in designing his t56 magnum kit 😝 Now if only someone came up with a PnP solution to stick and 8.8 diff in the back and I'll immediately get to humping on this swap (*cough come on freed, I'm mechanically inclined but not that mechanically inclined, help a brother out *cough)
Can’t go wrong with the t56 magnum! 8.8 is something that we could offer if there was enough demand. The Nissan diffs have proven to be pretty strong though!
An 8.8 would make me a lot more confident when buying a rear end for the 300zx!
Do you have any videos showing how the intercooling piping is ran. Look like space is limited coming from the intake manifold.
Nice z bro
Just want information on just strictly using an A/T setup, handicap now can’t physically drive stick anymore. Was going to just swap my VG30DE for a 2JZGTE that already have the A/T with it. The only information I’ve found mainly consists of using an M/T which is more common vs the A/T.
Great Video and Information,
Really interested in the front cross member, curious on when it will be available?
Sometime around summer this year
Perfection! Any experience keeping the z32 Trans? Fitment? My 300zx Needs a 2J Swap
Thank you! Stock transmission and CD009 with OEM bellhousing does not fit unfortunately. R154/AR5 are good semi budget options
Will I Still be able to use the shifter in the stock position? I don't mind cutting the trans tunnel but I don't want to cut my stock interior to make it fit. I'd even like to use my stock shifter.
Yes we recommend the Serialnine shifter it will allow you to use the oem shifter location with CD009
If I use the factory z32 trans with adapter plate do I have to use the Toyota bell housing (this will be a lot of firsts for me doing this swap so just want to get it right)
No I don’t think anyone makes the Toyota bell adapter style for the oem z32 transmission. I would not recommend using that transmission unfortunately
What size elbows did you use for the upper and lower radiator hoses? Also would the cd009 trans mount fit the factory z32 transmission?
Treadstone sells the elbows we used. We do not make a trans mount that will fit the factory z32 transmission because it is not a good fit for this swap.
What tranny adapter are you using?
6:31 When you say space down the sway bar do you mean like actually lowering the sway bar with spacers from the frame itself? or just positioning the sway bar in a certain way before tightening it down?
Side edit: Bought the engine and trans mount for a cd009 swap, great quality stuff. Looking to get the cd to 300 rear end driveshaft next although wish you'd accepted PayPal as its easier for me to make purchases online
Space it down with maybe 1” aluminum blocks above the sway bar brackets. Thank you! We can probably add PayPal payments to the website. Or I can send over a PayPal invoice if you’d like. Just send us an email
A 2J to G35 would be nice.
Would you say that by swapping the engine that maintenance is easier compared to the normal vg30, is the engine bay still cramped, can you conduct small repairs without dismantling the whole thing.
Yes maintenance is much easier and less prone to failures, but it can be a bit tight up front and in the bellhousing area depending on the setup you choose.
Did you revise the mounts? I had to beat the trash out my firewall to get the engine to lay back right
No we haven’t changed them once. You can see how the Cusco bushings move the engine further forward. Some people make the mistake of using straight through bushings that push the motor back towards the firewall.
@@FreedEngineering cusco is what i used
I would guess you either had them installed backwards (you can see how they are meant to be used in the video)
Or you’re using a Nissan transmission with the Nissan bellhousing and you had to tilt the engine back enough to clear that bell.
Would you have to cut the cross member?
Yes - a good portion has to be removed from the center and it will require welding in reinforcements.
Do you guys make VG swap kits for the Supra?
No we don’t… but that would be a cool swap hah
😆😂🤣
That would be awesome just to say f the world!
will these mounts work if I use the factory 5 speed with an adapter?
A few people have done it but I don’t recommend it. You’ll have to hammer the trans tunnel a crazy amount and it will be difficult to remove the trans if you ever need to.
@@FreedEngineering because the 2j will need to sit back farther bolted with the adapter to the factory 5 speed?
@@FreedEngineering main thing I need to know is that will your engine mounts work on a 2j if its bolted to the factory z32 trans... It would suck to buy the mounts and find out the engine sits to far forward or back to line up correctly
Yes it will sit too far back to line up with factory trans mount and driveshaft. You would have to hammer the tunnel a ton and get custom trans mount and driveshaft.
Which trans adapter is that?
Autosports Engineering. I think the best we’ve used is the Serialnine bellhousing kit
What front subframe is that?
It is a full custom crossmember that we make in house
How much to perform this swap at your shop?
For a similar build such as this you’d be looking at around $40k and up
How to downgrade a 300zx.
Just boost the NA, or build the TT. VG30 way better than a 2J, unless you're trying hit 1000whp
Boost the NA? Can you give more info please?!
