I spent many evenings classifying my steam library in genres and sub-genres and I put Nights into platforming so for my sanity I am just going to ignore what this video said
You're making this more complicated than it needs to be. Pick the first 2 genres that jump out at you. Rarely will any game be one very specific game genre. Genres in order of game shown: 1) Exploration & Puzzle 2) Strategy & Management 3) Skating & Platformer 4) Collector & Shooter 5) Platformer and Flying 6) RPG and Puzzle 7) Flying and Exploration 8) Puzzle and Story Based 9) Rhythm and Dungeon Crawler 10) Collector and Puzzle
love this list. Jet Set Radio was the first game OST CD I imported from Japan. also, WHY WASN'T THERE A POKEMON SNAP FOR WII U?? the thing was right theeeere :')
At 4:22, I think you're wrong there Ben! A game company has remade those nightmarish levels in the form of a certain game called Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time.
Just classify these under their own unique genres. Who says we can only choose the existing categories? Time to make up new ones! Even if that means flooding the genre classes with even more genres just for their 1 or 2 games!!
Long time fan here. I know I'm just a random person, but I hope someone at Triple Jump sees this. During the intro you show snippets of all the games that will be covered in the video. It kind of ruins the video in my opinion, and make me feel like I don't need to watch the rest of the video since I know what games will be featured already. Maybe random game footage could be used when talking in the intro before the actual games in the list.
I really liked Exo One and would classify it as a "Dragon, Fly!"-like. After the 2011 mobile game that I'm pretty sure pinched its concept from somewhere else - I just don't know who did that first, or what that genre would be called. Ramble/rant part: (Looking it up as I write and I'm shocked to see that it somehow still gets updated to this day - or, well, February for the free version - oh, and the description mentions 'Tiny Wings'! That just rattled something free in my brain. I think that might've been the original, cause I definitely remember that. And so I just re-learned that 'Tiny Wings' always was iOS exclusive and 'Dragon, Fly!' was the equivalent Android knockoff. Definitely was still HUGE in school, back then. Urgh, I feel my bones crumbling into dust. Shoutouts to OG Fruit Ninja, Robot Unicorn Attack (2), Osmos HD, Paper Toss, Can Knockdown, EDGE, Apparatus, Riptide GP, The Room and Monument Valley as the only mobile game that made me cry from a heartfelt emotion that wasn't anger or despair over "micro"transactions and the current state of things. Good times! Who is this "Genshin Gacha Idle Legendscapes Match3"?)
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Part platforming shoot-em-up, part slapforming puke-em-up, part sexually graphic dating sim, part browser game, with a pinch of hedgehog skinning.
I've got a couple more for ya. I've been saying this about Pac-Man. What genre exactly is classic Pac-Man? The closest thing I've heard anyone say is that it's a "Puzzle" game. There's not really any puzzles to pac man though. Either true puzzles or the "stacker"/blocks puzzles. I heard someone say it's a "Maze Game"...but that just seems like a generic descriptor. "Maze" games aren't really a thing. It doesn't really fit a genre if you ask me. I humorously will call it an "Eat 'Em Up" though. Also, Mister Mosquito. What genre is that, really? You just fly around and try to suck some peoples' blood. Closest would be a "Flight Simulator", but it feels different. It's kinda like Katamari in that it's just delightfully Japanese and weird.

Thats why I have a "Potpourri" folder/section.
Sounds tasty
Katamari Damacy is such a fun game. I like your analogy of life on it Peter. Plus nights into dreams is one of my favorites as well.
i just finished we love katamari. Great game.

Rarely will any game be one very specific game genre.
Genres in order of game shown:
1) Exploration & Puzzle
2) Strategy & Management

4) Collector & Shooter
5) Platformer and Flying
6) RPG and Puzzle
7) Flying and Exploration
8) Puzzle and Story Based
9) Rhythm and Dungeon Crawler
10) Collector and Puzzle
One I can think of that is hardly ever mentioned would be Sacrifice. The closest it can be likened to is some kind of weird RTS.
5:14 Marco's Getting Up! Awesome game.
love this list. Jet Set Radio was the first game OST CD I imported from Japan. also, WHY WASN'T THERE A POKEMON SNAP FOR WII U?? the thing was right theeeere :')
"Ball Fodder" is not a phrase I expected to hear today.
I'd categorize Katamari Damacy as a "snowball simulator"

the last guardian is quite hard to classify. platforming, adventuring, strategy, commanding, no attacking etc...
Genuinely had this issue with so many games trying to class them in folders
Outer Wilds deserves a mention here. Is it a rogue like? Is it a survival game? Is it an exploration game? Seems like none of the above exactly.
puzzle game

Pokemon Snap is clearly based on Gekibo: Gekisha Boy (1992).
I Hope Sega Makes a Nights Into Dreams Anime Series I'd Watch that anyday
10 Video Games With Clear Genre Classification, But With a Wholly Unique and Original Premise
Fixed the video title for you
Came here for Under The Skin. Was disappointed.
Great vid 😏
Toem is another great photography game, would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to play something chilled that's a bit different!
Saw the title, came here for Katamari Damacy. Was not disappointed.
I love the Sega Saturn of Nights is one of the best on the system
What category would Blast Corp. be in?
Unpacking fits here
Reckon I'll check out a few more of these :)

Katamari Damaci is obviously a collectathon

Who is this "Genshin Gacha Idle Legendscapes Match3"?)
Or you just classify them all together as "Unclassifiable" :D
So just going to say it, but a miscellaneous section would solve that up easily.
I just organize by franchise and year.
Africa on PS3 is the same genre as pokemon snap
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Part platforming shoot-em-up, part slapforming puke-em-up, part sexually graphic dating sim, part browser game, with a pinch of hedgehog skinning.
I can help u. Katamari is a skill based game. Or how we call ganes like this in Germany: Geschicklichkeitsspiel!
I've got a couple more for ya.

I have with digital ones…
…also Pokémon Snap would go in rail shooters
Blast Corp. for the N64 belongs on this list.
Man that game is so massively fun!
Doom Eternal is a platformer not a fps
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom could also be on the list!
