Mercedes-Benz W126 S-Class Car Chase Jump

  • This is a new edit of a car chase scene in the film K-9 (1989), with music added by Frankie Goes to Hollywood ("Two Tribes"). The random shots of Jim Belushi yelling in his '66 Mustang have been removed.
The W126 in the clip was a grey market European-spec 1981-85 500SE in two-tone Lapis Blue Metallic (932)/Matt Gray Metallic (7007 or 7175) with a grey interior (unclear if it was velour, MB-Tex, leather, or cloth). At the time of filming, the car retained its original bumpers. But the headlights, corner lights, and taillights were all changed to North American versions, and the headlight wipers were removed.
I wonder what happened to this car.

Note to viewers: I have seen this video stolen and reposted several times on social media without credit (some users have even added their own watermarks on top of it). Please give me credit if you plan to repost this to your own account. My account is @shervinsgarage on Instagram. This is my own edit (I removed the scenes with Jim Belushi, I color-graded the footage, and I added the music on top). Reposting without credit is a scumbag move.

So many movies in the 90s had W126s being hooned around. It only made sense that when I was finally the owner of a 91 560SEL I did plenty donuts. For a big car it’s pretty nimble.

Imaging doing the same thing with the current 2022 model of the S Class.. .
Do you think that the current generation Mercedes Benz S Class can do even half of what’s shown here in the video.
The cars nowadays can either be very luxurious and super thirsty for fuel or it can go really fast in a “straight line” apart from that nothing is good about the current generation models hell, I would trade my W220 S Class for this one any day!

  • @vwestlife

That was typical of "gray-market" Benzes in the '80s. The lights and instrument cluster were changed to American spec, because that was needed to pass inspection in many states, but the bumpers were not changed.

New Mercedes can never compare to these tough as nails cars. That’s why you still see these driving around after 40-50 years especially the diesels which my folks have had plenty off. Twin turbo my ass! Give me an 85 300SD! Tell if you’ll still see a W222 rolling around in 30 years. Probably not.

No. I am not saying we should all drive on the road like this. What I mean is as an enthusiastic fanatic the Mercedes is a nice car. In this film a professional stunt driver is extracting its performance in a way which is very pleasing at least in my eyes. The average car driver is well average. Just average. Every day I see on our roads a very poor driving standard out there in the general community. This is very sad. It deeply saddens me. I like this film but more to the point watching the person driving this car so cleverly. Yes he crashed into the barn at the end but it was a deliberate stunt. Thus magnificent machine has a driver worthy of the name behind the wheel. A real proper well trained driver.
