Darkest Dungeon - Swine God (Champion level Swine boss)

  • Setup from back to front:
    Vestal(Sacred Scroll, Junia's Head)
    Plague Doctor(Blasphemous Vial, Feather Crystal)
    Houndmaster(Focus Ring, Cudgel Weight)
    Man-at-Arms(Sun Cloak, Rampart Shield)
Strategy was to spam Bolster with the Man-at-Arms, Blinding Gas with the Plague Doctor, while the Vestal heals and the Houndmaster uses mark and Hound's Rush as necessary. If I did this again I would replace the Cudgel Weight with a Crescendo Box - I wanted to make sure I had a clean walk to the boss but I didn't realize I had enough stuns elsewhere. Better alternative would be Ancestor's Musket Ball, others could be Spiked Collar or Beast Slayer's Ring.

swine god is always simple in theory, but in practice Wilbur always stuns my healer in the first turn, marks my two front dudes, Swine God crits them both into death's door instantaneously and in the next turn wilbur deathblows both of them with the mark.

+BSM Blighting the Swine God was a misplay by me - I forgot that Wilbur gets two turns which clears the stun resist buff. With Blasphemous Vial the Plague Doctor should have 85% chance to stun him. Had I not plagued a few times I never would have seen a mark the whole fight.

I think the best strategy is to have an arbalist with rallying flare to clear marks and stuns. Also stun resist trinkets

Swine God brings my Flagellant to 0 health with one hit. Death's Door. And then Wilbur kills the Flagellant with "End Those Two". Then, to add insulto to injury... *Achievement unlocked: lose a hero to Wilbur.*
*ARE YOU FUCKIN' KIDDING ME, DARKEST DUNGEON?!*

Try all that, except the flagellant goes first and misses the exanguinate.

Good video! I would be interested to know how you would approach this with the changes to various classes' skills in the latest version.
This strategy unfortunately no longer works as presented here; the Man-At-Arms' bolster skill is now limited to 1/battle, so Dodge boost spam isn't possible from him, and the Plague Doctor's blinding gas is limited to 3 uses. Additionally, enemies who have been successfully stunned now get a large, stacking self-buff to their stun-resistance until they next successfully take an action, making it almost impossible to perpetually stun-lock an enemy.
However, stuns are still effective in this fight due to the Swine Prince/King/God itself only getting one action per round, whilst Wilbur (the little cheerleader pig) gets 2 but normally uses its first action to try a stun of its own. You could therefore alternate between stunning the Swine God on one turn, and stunning Wilbur after its first action on the next to prevent him laying down a mark, but I don't know if this would still be too risky at Champion level.
Others have noted that an Arbalest with Rallying Flare is excellent in this fight since that skill clears all stuns & marks on your entire party (but not the enemy), forcing the Swine God to use the weaker and less-accurate "wild flailing" attack on a single target instead of obliterate. The Houndmaster presumably also remains an excellent choice, with bonuses to damage against beasts + marked targets, a strong stun and the ability to guard vulnerable allies.

Great comment, this boss is so much harder now than what you can see in this video

For the best party to use in this boss fight is
Vestal:Position three (reason she can still heal in position three but you dont have her in position 4 because you want the Arbalest there to deal high damage with his trinket)
Arbalest:Position four (reason because he can you flare and that gets rid of all marks on you're team)
HoundMaster:Position two (reason He can mark the swine god and with Arbalest's sniper shot it does 70% increased damage to marked targets)
Man at arms:Position one (reason can use Guard to block incoming damage from you're low hp heroes or to not allow wilber to stun you're healer and high damage Heroes)

I managed to get a ton of achievments with this boss; also, Wilbur managed to kill my only remaining guy just by perpetually stunning him like 100 times. It's a good thing that, although all my party was dead, the game noted that I killed the Swine God.

Just fought this dude. I had three characters from mods with me and Reynauld(Not just any crusader, but the best one). The three characters were the Lamia, the Trapmaker, and the Ronin.
Turn one, my Ronin dodges the mark, meaning instead of doing the less damaging wide attack, the swine god used his single target high damage attack that sent me to half health already. 61 hp total on Reynauld, and half of it just disappears. The Lamia is supportive, and with her trinkets, she healed a lot. Not enough to offset the death doors on Raynauld and the Ronin. Lucky enough, I got about 3 crits on the swine god, each doing above 40 damage. I killed him quickly enough. Only problem is I didn't want that bastard Wilbur killing off Reynauld and the Ronin. I got a stun on it the turn I killed the God, because Crusaders are slow as all hell, and I use his Stunning Blow. So yeah, due to Reynauld being slow, I stopped Wilbur from getting a deathblow on any of my heroes once the main fight was over. He only went after my Lamia with Bit o' Squeal. She was on full health anyway, so I just used the Ronin to kill off Wilbur. I was really lucky.

Why does my version have the swine god go twice a turn? It’s impossible

  • @_piranha

I did the same thing but with 2 HM, 40 dodge on one and 35 on the other + Bolster 5 + MAA camping buff + Guard Dog so Dodgy Doggy ( Yes that is it's name) had around 85 dodge and the other one 65. Got unlucky, Swine god crits 75% of the time even though MAA tanks it, lost a HM to Wilbur and to avenge him, i stunlocked him and made it bleed to death.

My team for Swine God was Occultist, Musketeer, Leper, and Dragonslayer (mod). I got super lucky and landed three critical hits in a row, dealing 50+ damage with each one. I didn't even need to heal.

Having a ton of trouble with this boss..off the bat I get one of my characters stunned by Wilbur then immediately afterward I get a party wide stun from the Swine God. There's nothing I can do.

Arbalest is the way to go. Use the skill that clears the mark of your teammates to greatly cripple Swine God (he won't be able to use Obliterate Body and Obliterate Masses once you clean the marks). Plague Doctor can also help with her flashbang as seen in this video.
