We did the Rocky Mountaineer in 2022 from Vancouver to Calgary and it was fabulous. Ours included two days on the train, as well as hotels in Vancouver, Kamloops, Banff and Calgary. Our final day was exploring Banff in the morning and driving to Calgary late afternoon/evening. We saw a special where we paid for Silver Leaf and got Gold Leaf train service which was awesome.

Nice review! A little too fancy and expensive for me though. I've done the trip from Vancouver to Calgary (via Banff) in economy class on the Canadian in 1986...a very different experience! I am taking the Canadian from Edmonton to Toronto - and back - over Christmas this year

Some great tips here! We did Vancouver - Jasper (having been to Banff before). The route to Jasper is beautiful too! I don't think you missed anything in Kamloops - we didn't suffer any delays on our trip so had the chance to have a walk around and would say it was functional... I also don't think you missed anything on the run in to Vancouver (other than perhaps the city centre approach) - I'm glad we didn't end our trip in Vancouver as it would have been a real anti-climax. I really struggled with my cameras due to really bad internal reflections on the windows - which is why I think you were saying hold your phone / camera up to the window. It's not a great photography platform :( I'm also a fussy eater and our menu options contained all of the things I'm fussy about - I wish we'd had your menu with steak, pancakes, etc! It was certainly an amazing experience and the staff were fantastic, but I'd probably agree about not doing it again - we'll go with "once in a lifetime"... ;)

Hi Scott - thanks for the feedback. The reflection was tough on the windows for "real" cameras. Angie

such great video. May I know if the package price includes one night of hotel between day 1 & 2 and how did you arrange your transportation to the hotel after the trip was over at the rail station? thank you.

We did the 12 night trip a couple of weeks ago,its divided into 2 parts Vancouver to Jasper with overnight stops in Whistler and Quesnel. The second train leg was Banff to Vancouver with an overnight in Kamloops. Overall our trip was wonderful. However, the second train on our Gold Leaf carriage did no way compare with first Gold Leaf carriage. Obviously old rolling stock that was very dated. No comfy leather seating with automatic control, a much smaller table and no power outlets. The viewing windows are smaller and the panel between obscures your overall view. Also our carriage was half full which you may think would be better, not at all as it had half the staff. The hosts were doing upper and lower duty so they were spread thin. Disappointing and shame on Rocky Mountaineer , this totally felt like a downgrade having experienced the real Gold Leaf. My advice to anyone booking , be sure your carriage is not one of these because you’ll pay a lot of money for a lesser experience.

Great point. We had one of the newer carriages.

For LESS money, you could have taken The Canadian from Toronto to Vancouver, in a room. Food is just as spectacular, there are several dome cars, snacks throughout the trip and activities like beer tasting, wine tasting, travelogues, etc. etc. And the staff was splendid. I did the trip Vancouver to Toronto just before COVID, in a single room and LOVED it. I plan to so it again!

I didn't want to sleep on the train, but that sounds like a great option for train enthusiasts.
