@@enjoyerofcake2123 Haha I would never blame Shannon for jinxing anything. The writing was on the wall by the time Couturier got benched. Tough luck on the top-tier team matchups in the schedule. Major pressure on Ersson. Drysdale and Seeler being out for so long. Abysmal power play. Torts Tortsing. All the ingredients for a good ol' Philly collapse.

    • @phillyghost1256

@rpgeek22 I’ll tell you what happened, right around the trade deadline the Flyers suffered 3 injuries on their blue line from starting defenseman in Drysdale, Ristoulinen, Nick Seeler & then management traded out Shawn Walker to the Colorado Avalanche so in essence this team was down to 4 starters not being in the lineup coming down the stretch off the season and that weakness on the blue line then exposed our goalie situation and then from that point forward the confidence of this team collapsed in on itself.” ( BTW not going to lie but our putrid power play finally caught up to this team & drained any remaining confidence they had left!….Obviously this year playoffs is not our time but the future with this group is!

It's a hard pill to swallow to see the team do so well when not expected to, to just fall from grace. From what reports have said, Ersson before the Hart removal was fantastic. I don't want to blame everything on Hart, but I could see his abrupt departure sort of have the team not know what to do and are just left in the dark. Hard to see where we go from here.

I'd say Hart is done. Supposedly there were upwards of 12 guys to enter the room. The 5 who got charged were more than likely the ones who did their dirt on camera. I can't see them only bring in these 5 if they were certain of the outcome.

@daveharris4975 12 players? The 5 that got charged were on camera? Wow.... So those 5 players all know who else was there... Any chance more get charged due to being implicated by the other 5 in a plea deal?

@@heathclark318@heathclark318 we'll probably never know the full details. The WJC team was talking about it in their now-lost group chat and at least one guy went into the room, saw what was happening, and left because he was uneasy. They all knew. So did the teams - Comtois was radioactive, Flyers tried to shop Hart over the summer without extending him, and part of that insane Tanner Jeannot trade cost was paying for someone to take Foote. At this point it's in legal system hell and these guys will probably have nice long KHL careers when all is done. It's ugly and sad and I try not think about how often this crap happens.

Subtract the best player off any team and it hurts, and Carter Hart was their best player. Ersson outplayed Hart at times early, but asking a rookie to carry them through 50+ games is a big ask. Trading Walker and immediately losing Seeler, Drysdale, and Risto left them thin on D and they couldn’t keep up. I’m happy with the progress and I love what Danny and Jonesy are building. Farabee and Atkinson are useless and they need more scoring. Hopefully Michkov comes over and one of the goalies steps up. I think they get in next year and are in the hunt in 25-26.

Long term, I think that Fedotov will turn out to be both a very good pick-up and a very good player for Philly (and I say this as a Red Wings fan).
As Shannon mentions here, it's a hell of an adjustment to make, when you have to travel across to the USA, from an entirely different country and hockey culture (with all the language barrier, lifestyle, etc, changes that such a switch entails), and then find yourself thrust straight into the NHL playoffs race cauldron, without any type of AHL easing-in period beforehand.
Hopefully, the Flyers will give this young guy an extension and another full season or so to see what he can really do in a more settled, less intense situation than Philly has been in recent weeks.
Really hope that Fedotov does succeed in the end, as I think that he has shown tantalizing flashes of the BIG potential that he undoubtedly has, on occasions, since his arrival in North America. Good luck to him in his future efforts.

They won most games with solid goaltending and a full 60 minute effort. Both of those are gone at this point, whether it's fatigue, losing belief etc. Doesn't matter, end result is the same. Always nice to see The Hockey Guy in the Orange & Black! Anyway, as a fan, I’d easily say that if these losses were sprinkled throughout the season and the team missed the playoffs it would be going over better with the fan base. We went into this season expecting to be one of the bottom teams. Everyone had written them off as a contender to win the draft lottery. Yet they’ve been sniffing around playoff positioning most of the season. The utter collapse into the most incompetent team in hockey is startling because all season they have played gritty, tough hockey, and fought to stay in most of their games even knowing they were outskilled by their opponents. There are very few blowout games. A lot of one or two goal losses - and yes, that “power” play looks like something from the mind of Stephen King it’s so horrifying, and it definitely cost them games. And the team was not at all prepared for losing Hart in the crease. Ersson did what he could, which wasn’t much. He just isn’t a #1 goalie right now. Maybe in the future, but he isn’t there now, and it was an unfortunate position for him to be in. And it didn’t help that the team in front of him wasn’t talented enough to give him some breathing room in games and secure more wins. The scrappy success of the previous months blinded people to just how weak and untalented a team this really is, and that there’s still a long way to go for this rebuild. And at the same time, seeing them faceplant so hard in the final month is frustrating because THEY did play so well for 70ish games.

The Flyers were a team that didn't have a lot of high end talent. But you take one of these (Carter Hart) mid season and it has to have an effect. I feel like the narrative around powerplays changes depending on the context. If it's Ovechkin scoring on the powerplay, the narrative is "but he only scores on the powerplay, it doesn't count", but when a team is losing games because they can't score on the powerplay, it's "this team needs to score more goals on powerplay". Like, which one is it then? Why don't Ovechkin's powerplay goals count, if teams need powerplay goals to succeed?

i'm a die hard flyer fan that wanted to tank. it was fun watching them win and play above their heads. and it was fun seeing guys like forester and brink do some things. and it was great to see poehling will be a perfect replacement for laughton when he is traded in the off season. what is sooooooo annoying is just missing and not getting thebest possible draft pick. i love torts, but he is the right coach at the wrong time. i wouldve wanted to see him hired next year or the year after because this is where he gets you. he can make a team w limited talent way better, but that ultimately accomplishes nothing. this team is so desperate for high end talent... especially after the gauthier trade and this season just made that more difficult to acquire. next year i wand NO vets. bye bye to staal, johnson, delauriers, risto if anyone would take him, atkinson , even trade TK. just play the kids and go through the process. i'd much rather lose w kids developing than vets just taking up space.

Not as much of a collapse more of a team running out of gas. They over achieved with a bunch of spare parts and rookies. Not to mention our starting goalie being forced to leave the team. Torts needs to be given a chance to see this whole rebuild through. I was at the win vs Boston before this losing streak started and we’ve seen what they are capable of. Hopefully they can build on next year. I was also at the loss to Chicago. They hit 5 posts.

I've been a Flyers fan ever since I knew what hockey was, around 1970. The one thing I could count on is the Flyers contending. Especially when Bernie came back. From 72-73 to 2011-12 the Flyers missed the playoffs 6 times. 6 times in 39 seasons, outstanding. Since then they've made the playoffs 4 times. 4 times in 12 seasons. This is the new culture with this franchise. The current ownership is not interested in winning. It shows at the games. The last few games I went to the building was less than full when once upon a time getting a Flyers ticket was next to impossible. They need to change the mindset. The 70's are over. They need to move on. The way they shit the bed with Gauthier goes to show this franchise isn't serious about winning. Until Comcrap sells the team, this is what they're going to get. As much as I rag on the Phillies, at least they try to win. This team doesn't.

As a lifelong Flyers fan of 40 years, the last decade of the team can be summed up in one word: Mediocre.
We did the unthinkable this year. The fans were 100% on board with Briere to rebuild so they could stink this year. Instead they teased us with the playoffs for 65 games, collapsed, miss the playoffs, and now will draft #14? #15?
We’ve done this for a decade as every high end talent never pans out. We draft Nolan Patrick #2 overall, doesn’t pan out. We draft Cutter Gauthier #5 overall, he gets traded because he doesn’t want to play for us. We draft Michkov this year and we won’t know for 2 more years when he’s eligible to come to the NHL. Other first round picks: Farabee, Frost, Konecny, Sanheim had been the nucleus for the past 5 years = mediocre teams.
The Flyers lack high end talent because they miss or get unlucky with so many 1st round picks for a decade now, it’s literally Groundhog Day.

    Lots to consider.
Carter Hart, overall depth, injuries to key players, Walker being traded & bringing in Erik Johnson, Tortorella (the good & maybe not so good).
There was a lot of AHL players in the lineup that were just not good enough (understandable).

Not a flyer fan, but I would be optimistic. Most rookies and young players struggle after the 60 game mark because they have never played an 82 game schedule before. Plus Torts style of hockey isn't easy on the body. If they did this well this early, they should be that much better for it. Plus, the learning of fighting for a playoff spot won't hurt either.

I think Fedotov got NHL ice because Kolosov was only going to be eligible for the AHL, while Fedotov COULD play NHL.
And Briere did draft two goalies last summer. They didn't think they'd see either Russian, so it was just getting ahead of the Hart thing if it blew up. It blew up.
I feel bad for the players that earned that playoff spot a few weeks ago, and the team just couldn't hold it.
Atkinson disappearing really hurt the team. Couts obviously tired, and just isn't making plays. Konecny looks really hurt but drags himself out there. Seeler got hurt right at the wrong time to maybe transition through not having Walker anymore after the deadline. Deslaurier adds nothing. Staal, bad. Johnson is trying, but needs to retire. Too many injuries for too many years.
And yes, this is a discouraging season because they showed what was possible, but demonstrated they are missing like 12 players vs competitive teams. This isn't a two guy fix.
I do applaud them for trying so hard. I hope we can have one or two more wins by the end of the season to wash a little of this last couple weeks out of our mouth. Leave on a better note, go rest and get healthy, and see what the Briere/Jones/Torts plan is for the offseason/draft.

As a diehard, and rather upset, flyers fan, I'd say discouraging. We were supposed to suck, get a good pick, trade our assets, and be better in 3 years when michkov arrives. Because we played well, we ended up not trading much at the deadline, and we're not gonna get a good pick now. It feels like we lost a year in the rebuild with nothing to show for it. (And no playoffs)

Tortorella is not the problem. He's doing what he was brought in to do.
Hart situation put this team and the organization in a very difficult spot. Ersson is a good goalie, but he's not a starter yet. He was in the position he was supposed to be in until Hart happened. He's in over his head, but I'm my opinion handled it above what most would've given him.
The PP is horrendous and a momentum killer. I wish they could decline the PP😂. The PK is very good and is a strong point on this team.

They will miss by 1-3 points this season, and it's going to be a long and very sad offseason waiting to see if they can even get close to the playoffs next year. This team overachieved all year. When the games actually meant something they folded like origami. (Took that from another podcast) What worries me the most is that no one is playing well which shows me how low of a talent pool we actually have. This team needs a legitimate star to lead them. Someone who sticks out no matter how bad they are. Hopefully that Russian kid is the answer but who knows if he ever plays for them.

Benching Couturier and not being entirely transparent about why was a questionable move to say the least. Yes they did over-perform in the first half, but a collapse of this type signifies larger issues. Could be tension in the locker room among the players, could be Torts’ coaching style. All in all I think this team is average at best and will finish right around where I think they belonged all along.
