Thank you so much, Joel! Your high-quality printing and creative ideas are truly amazing! Especially when you fold this robot, you find that the direction of the layer is different, which I did not even think about designing this robot. With this opportunity, I am going to become your fan too. Thank you ~
Actually, that's not the "Lost in Space" Robot. It's a variation of Robby the Robot from the 1956 Sci-Fi movie, "Forbidden Planet." Now Robby did guest star on "Lost in Space" a time or two, but the actual "Lost in Space" robot is the B9...remember it had a glass donut shaped head and rollers for feet.
Not only is that robot design very cool, it's also very smart! Great prints too, the one with the pallete plus looks like it came from a swamp or something, it's really nice. Great video!
Love these from Fab365. I have made two of their models now. Definitely worth the small outlay for the files. I think I may print a large ‘Robbie’ now 👍👍 great, informative video as always, thanks Joel 🖖
that sounds like one of those commercials from the 90s that would say something like "you wouldnt download and print a robot" and now im imagining joel printing a full scale mecha
I just ordered my first 3d printer last night. Cr10s! My boys are stoked Joel. Its supposed to be here by tomorrow at 8pm and we can't wait. Just wanted to say thank you for being family friendly and keeping us interested Joel.
That flexing technique is useful in many cases. Well, you can also take the height dimension of the failed print and reSlice & print the missing part. & glue.
Embiggen !?!?!?! great word ... I am going to try to use that in a sentence soon... Cool Robot!!! Thanks for the link and sharing your experiences printing this model.
This video was ridiculously satisfying. Folding the robots into shape, then popping the last robot off the flexible build plate just did it for me. Hashtag Oddly Satisfying
Yep, I have wonderful experience with a bad MIcroSD card that came with my Anet A8. 5 times my printer would go as high as it can on the Z axis then back down half way then move the X axis back and forth without stopping until I unplugged the printer. Thankfully I had a spare MicroSD card from an older phone
These are awesome! The focused heat from a hot-air soldering rework station might allow you to focus the heat better on the bends if you have one handy.
Very clever folding strategy! Joel-- you DO know that is a cutely misshapen version of Robby The Robot from Forbidden Planet (1956)? There is a family lineage in the design of that movie robot and TV's Lost In Space robot (B9) -- mostly designed by the same fellow.
These are great models. I was successful at folding while holding under running hot water. I tried ABS and had even better detail but the hinges won't fold without breaking. PETG attempts were successful but it is much trickier to get enough gap between parts to allow motion of arms & legs. I never purchased any designs before this since there is so much great free stuff available or I design my own parts using Fusion 360. I first purchased Robot S then Robot R. These are worth the low cost.
Great video Joel. It is a fantastic model, what an ingenious design too. I've brought both the R and S versions, easily worth every penny of the asking price. Don't worry, I can't dance either lol
I bought all three of the robots from Fab 365 after seeing them on the table in one of your previous videos. Printed one on my Monoprice Maker Select with "some success". The folds broke so thanks for the idea of a heat gun...or hair dryer. I do like it when you share the details such as your slicer and it's settings. Being pretty new at this I am not always sure what to change when I am having problems. How about trying the "surprise eggs" from Thingiverse. I have been trying to conquer them and still having little success. OOPS wife said i have to go. Thanks Joel.
Awesome video. That multi-colored Robot is sweet, 👍✋. So how does the Mosiac Pallette compare to the Prusa multi-filament dispenser? No waste block printed? Didn't know you still had the Raise3D printer. Still having problems or all figured out? Thanks again for all you do, ✋ . Sincerely, Matthew
Welcome! Crazy, right? They have a limited number of writes. I mean, it's a VERY large number, but, it's there. OR, a memory location on the SD card can just go bad.
... gute Arbeit Joe. ... good job Joe. 2 of my 5 printed robots have broken. But I glued them together with Super Glue again. In a robot caused by vibration of the printer, the two arms broke from the printing bed and were not printed correctly. Otherwise, everything turned out well.
I have improved the robot and would like to share my idea....In the download comes a screen which I suppose you are to print out in clear PLA , ABS or whatever.....however just print it out and use it as a template ...The bottom of a soda bottle (in the UK a 2 lire size) has four feet moulded into the blow moulding of the bottle....If you position the template just right you can draw round it with a sharpie and cut out a crystal clear dome window for the front of Robby....great thing is you get four chances to get it right....I used a dremel.
Hi Joel, I want to introduce my 10 year old son to 3D printing and was wondering which software you would recommend to use for creating 3D models? Thanks
Hello, I'm not Joel, however, Tinker Cad is popular for beginners. It's web based, and there are tutorials available here on You Tube. If you don't want web based, Fusion 360 is available for windows and Apple, and there are many good tutorials on You Tube. It's advanced, and may not be a good starting platform for a 10 year old. It would depend on his attention span, and attention to detail, with the tutorials. If on Linux, FreeCAD is available, but I would not recommend it for beginners only because there are not so many tutorials available. All of the above are free, or free for non-commercial use. Check out Makers Muse, and Paul McWhorter for a couple of the tutorial series videos, that I can think of off the top of my head.
How does the edit work for sped up video with sync'd sound after the speed up? My brain hurts thinking about that edit, is a section of audio cut out during the speed up?
I actually have a tutorial on how this is done on this channel! But, yes, that's how I do it. I separate the audio and the video so that I can cut sections of the audio out independently. Then I move all the audio down the timeline up against each other, then use the time rate tool to speed up the video. Usually there's some finagling involved in trying to make things time up properly, but this video lined up perfectly by chance, which was awesome and time saving! If I have to make the video longer than the audio takes to make things line up together then I'll add a music track underneath so that there isn't just dead audio between audio clips while a time lapse is going. Hope that helps!
I'm looking into buying a 3d printer this month as my bday gift to my self lol and I'm leaning towards a cr 10s. I've watched your videos on open source so I'm hoping this is still a good one for me to get but the other issue is that I can't find it in stock anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. High five. Oh and I'm from North of Seattle. Thanks again
I just saw some in stock recently from Lightinthebox. $377 and free shipping from any option within the US (Orange accents and US plug was the only one with free shipping that I found). I've also heard that newegg will price match lightinthebox.
NerdSmithing there’s been a few posts in the CR-10 Facebook group from people who have purchased from them. None have reported any issues from machines coming from the US warehouse. Take that for what it’s worth.
I just purchased from Amazon last night. I paid 575 with free 2 day shipping. Which is far more than the constantly advertised 400$ price mark but they are sending the cable extensions and an extra 10 nozzles. I think the extra money is worth knowing its coming anyway.
Sean Connelly thank you for your recommendation I talked to a few people on the Facebook groups and ended up purchasing one from them and I've now been printing for a week
BuildMakeInspire 3D oh, makeshapers. Been pretty happy with it but then I upgraded the hotend because I plan to print reinforced nylon at some point. Havnt gotten my settings down with the new end. I'm only a few spools in so pretty new to printing.
is it displaying the right temp or is it clicking on the extrude gear at all like its not melting fast enough? If it is just bad quality try putting 2 pieces of paper for leveling the bed it might just need some more space for the filament to hit the bed. If none of these are happening then I would be happy to help if you could give me some more detail. I remember when I tried to use petg and it would just not work was not having it I could only get it to print at 230 C. I might take another shot at it instead of have it just sitting in a drawer.
BuildMakeInspire 3D I think I have retraction distance too far. I think it pulls the end of the filiment through the heat break and then balls up and jams into the feed and dosnt get to the nozzle. Temperature is fine and checks out. I have bed leveling mastered and even check the printer z axis to make sure each motor is in lock step with the other but I'm having issues with eather the jamming in at the heat break or too much oozing and globbing. I have costing enabled and that helps then I tried a print to help calibrat retraction but I'm still having issues getting it just right. If you have recommendations for costing and retraction that would probably help a bunch.
I use a 7-10 retraction length, speed of 50mms, z hop .1, minimal retract 1.5mm, and I usually don’t have to use costing, but when I do it’s set at like .5mm. This is for my printer and my PETG tho. Your retraction depends on how sticky your filament is. I use hatchbox PETG cuz it’s usually not sticky at all and requires little retraction tweaking.
is there anything commercially available for remelting and turing failed prints, at least single colored ones, back into usable filaments or does the head that goes into printing affect the integrity of the plastics?
Alright. So the internet has me going nuts saying what 3D printers are the best. So Im going to ask you guys. What does everyone suggest for a entry level low cost printer? I dont want to make super huge builds or anything. I just want to play around and learn. Then go from there. Thanks!
I would go for the anycubic i3 mega, the Tevo Tarantula(I own this one), or the anet a8. I highly recommend the Tevo tarantula and the anet A8 if u like to add upgrades and learn about how the printer works more. If u want something ready to go then try the i3 mega. It’s one heck of a printer and I’ve seen it handle nylon no problem.
Cool robots! Though why didn’t the designer just add integrated hinges on the parts that need to fold???..not that hard...I’m not gonna buy it because it just looks very fragile...especially if u bend certain parts...
I think the robot was an exercise in what's possible. All my hinges are still intact. Most likely I'll glue my robots because I don't want them to ever come apart :)
3D Printing Nerd I guess that’s a cool way of thinking about it. Thx for the reply. Tbh I still think it would be awesome with hinges..it would be like a transformer..someone could use this idea to design a printable car that turns into a robot or something.
And here is the walking version of the fab365 robot r.

I love your work!!!
It’s Robbie the Robot!
Haha, Brilliant!
I love how you show your failures as well as your successes. Truly inspiring.
Thank you! I have to show where I come from, not just where I arrive :)
It's awesome how the colour changes are perpendicular to each other on each side of the robot. Great video, thank you.
Hey Ed! I agree! I love printing it flat, then folding it to make all the colors line up in different ways!
Thank you so much, Joel! Your high-quality printing and creative ideas are truly amazing! Especially when you fold this robot, you find that the direction of the layer is different, which I did not even think about designing this robot. With this opportunity, I am going to become your fan too. Thank you ~
I'm SO glad you like this! Also, I fully agree. The layers lines becoming vertical is just awesome.
Loving that "Lost in Space" style robot! Never seen a print in place figurine like this before
Actually, that's not the "Lost in Space" Robot.
Also from the movie, "The Invisible Boy", 1957.
Yes, I forgot about that one.
Danger Will Robinson!
I love that the layers go vertical on his body. Looks great with the multiple colors
Right? I LOVE that!
wrong robot
Not only is that robot design very cool, it's also very smart! Great prints too, the one with the pallete plus looks like it came from a swamp or something, it's really nice. Great video!
I think the multiple colors really helps the texturing stand out. I am looking forwards to the pallet tool video.
Your smile embiggens even the meanest viewer's heart!
So cool! Looking forward to the Palette Plus review Joel. So many possibilities.
Poor broken Robby - LOL. I remember "Forbidden Planet" well.
I just ordered my first 3d printer last night. Cr10s! My boys are stoked Joel. Its supposed to be here by tomorrow at 8pm and we can't wait. Just wanted to say thank you for being family friendly and keeping us interested Joel.
Thanks for the kind words, and it's amazing to know tomorrow at 8pm is going to be AN AMAZING TIME for you and your boys!
That flexing technique is useful in many cases. Well, you can also take the height dimension of the failed print and reSlice & print the missing part. & glue.
just bought all the bot designs. My son is gonna love them
Another great video Joel, looking forward to your video on the palette+.
Awesome idea from fab 365, definitely $5 well spent.
That multicolor looks amazing, imagine if you mix glow in dark and some areas glow, wow
the multicolor prints are so cool
That's just plain awesome, enough said
That multi color robot is pretty darn sweet.
Embiggen !?!?!?! great word ... I am going to try to use that in a sentence soon... Cool Robot!!! Thanks for the link and sharing your experiences printing this model.
Oh no.... They're multiplying!!!! Awesome job Joel!!!
OH NO! hahahahah.
Too cool & that last one was just Amazing. Another good video, thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful day Joel. God bless
This screams for a stop-motion Robot Hospital soap opera, as the full robots attempt to fix their misshapen friend.
MY GOODNESS. What a wonderful idea.
This video was ridiculously satisfying. Folding the robots into shape, then popping the last robot off the flexible build plate just did it for me. Hashtag Oddly Satisfying
I gotta get one of those! That is just sooo cool Joel! Those are some sweet dance moves!
Those are the best! Love robots too! Thanks!

So very cool to see it big like that :) Great job!
These are awesome! The focused heat from a hot-air soldering rework station might allow you to focus the heat better on the bends if you have one handy.
IF I have one. I do not :)
Forbidden planet called Robbie, so cool
Now...imagine it in Metal filament and have it rust...yeah that would be cool I think!
Ooooh.......
Yea, let's do that joel!👍
@@3DPrintingNerd oooooh...mg?
I'm excited to see what Joel can make when he gets his hands on one of those new pellet extruders!
Very clever folding strategy! Joel-- you DO know that is a cutely misshapen version of Robby The Robot from Forbidden Planet (1956)? There is a family lineage in the design of that movie robot and TV's Lost In Space robot (B9) -- mostly designed by the same fellow.
Heh enbiggening. I love the random colour stuff it is so pretty

Hey George!
Surprise egg? Oooh, I'll go look!
I want one! They look so cool
Hey Natasha, they ARE cool!
If you do want a tool to hear up specific or narrow parts of your print, the Dremel Versatip would work wonders.
It's Willie here, get that Pallet video out Joel! Or I'm coming up and taking it! LOL ;)
"I've only got two hands so far."

sylas wojciechowski Joel's obviously been listening to JoCo's The Future Soon
Danger jole telling!!
Will have to print this robot I liked this robot from lost in space/forbidden planet
On the green multi color robot I like how the body has vertical layers and the arms legs and head is horizontal
DANGER! Joel Robinson! 🤖
I got my classic SciFi robots mixed up 🤔 This is inspired by the Forbidden Planet robot, not Lost in Space 🤣

Never knew sd cards could expire. Thanks for the video :D
Welcome! Crazy, right? They have a limited number of writes. I mean, it's a VERY large number, but, it's there. OR, a memory location on the SD card can just go bad.
When a print out fails, are you able to recycle the filament and incomplete projects into new filament for more 3D printing projects?
... gute Arbeit Joe.
... good job Joe. 2 of my 5 printed robots have broken. But I glued them together with Super Glue again.
In a robot caused by vibration of the printer, the two arms broke from the printing bed and were not printed correctly. Otherwise, everything turned out well.
Welp, you just earned them $4.49. Downloading now to print for my twin 5-year-old boys. Thank Joel!
PS: Printing now in Proto Pasta High Five Blue!
Can't you use a copper colored filament with a bit of dark green in some places to simulate patina ?
What was the magnetic build surface you were using? Looking for something for my 300x300 FT-5 and 500x500 CR-10S5
It is as a giant BuildTak flexible steel sheet
I have improved the robot and would like to share my idea....In the download comes a screen which I suppose you are to print out in clear PLA , ABS or whatever.....however just print it out and use it as a template ...The bottom of a soda bottle (in the UK a 2 lire size) has four feet moulded into the blow moulding of the bottle....If you position the template just right you can draw round it with a sharpie and cut out a crystal clear dome window for the front of Robby....great thing is you get four chances to get it right....I used a dremel.
I gonna print a robot joel. verry nice multicollor btw!🌈
Wooooah. This is sooo cool
Thanks!
you know we lit flashing now I got that robot kind of looks like an old Temple to me
God Id love to have one.
You should make one!
I need to make friends with someone with a printing machine 😅
Yes you do!
hi joel really love your vids thanks for reading this.
Very nice print. checked his site, he has a lot of good stuff for reasonable prices, anywhere else I can find/buy this high quality stuff?
What is the best 3D printer for excellent accuracy and excellent resulution specifications. And be up to 400 doller ?
Is that The Greatest American Hero T-Shirt???
It sure is! Glad someone else picked up on it :) I don't feel so old now!
Faulty SD cards are a BIG problem in dash cam circles too, not all SD cards are made equal!
Holy cow didn't even think of that but a dash cam writes MANY times!
Cool. If you could restrict the color palette to more subtle grays it might create a real burnished metal look.
Oh man, a few different shades of silvers and greys!
Yesss.
Do you have a 'museum of fails'? I would love to see both successful and fails..
"I've only got two hands... so far" XD

Like gfodale says, Tinkercad is awesome! Also look into Morphi.
Joel need help just put together a tronxy p802 can't get it to print at the center of the build plate please help I am new to 3d printing
Thanks, you inspired me going to fire up my pallet pluse
That's great, print something awesome!
If buildtack doenst make good hats, does magic goo make good hair gell?
... yes. I know, right?

What is your favorite filament under 25 USD
hey what 3d printer would you recommend getting ?
Whatever you can afford and can run :)
do you know of any cheep ones that are good quality and i'm glad you liked the sea serpent model i sent you
Joel, I think my SD card is corrupt because my gmax 1.5 moved over, then moved down, and forcefully knocked my print of the bed.
I bought the file about 4 weeks ago.... I have a small army of robots now
That's fantastic!
Jon Dubin can you robot file for free pls edizkuru3@gmail.com i want to buy this but i cant because i am just a kid
I upgraded my cr10 with a micro Swiss hotend and I'm having issues dialing in the prints. Any suggestions for petg filiment?
what brand?
BuildMakeInspire 3D oh, makeshapers. Been pretty happy with it but then I upgraded the hotend because I plan to print reinforced nylon at some point.
Havnt gotten my settings down with the new end. I'm only a few spools in so pretty new to printing.
is it displaying the right temp or is it clicking on the extrude gear at all like its not melting fast enough? If you have recommendations for costing and retraction that would probably help a bunch.
I use a 7-10 retraction length, speed of 50mms, z hop .1, minimal retract 1.5mm, and I usually don’t have to use costing, but when I do it’s set at like .5mm. This is for my printer and my PETG tho. Your retraction depends on how sticky your filament is. I use hatchbox PETG cuz it’s usually not sticky at all and requires little retraction tweaking.
They aren't complete without the little hoop antenna at the ears!
Oh shoot, I forgot to print those!
We need a foldable Bender file.
Can someone explain to me why i have to pay for this model and still have a watermark on it?
So you don't resell it
For $5 you get a copy of the file. For a $1000 or so, you could commission the artist to create a model just for you.
thats perfect for dual or multicolor printing, if it wasn't for all of the wasted plastic that comes with doing it.
In the mode I did, no wasted plastic - but when doing standard 2, 3, or 4 color mode, you DO have a purge block. Yes, always sad to waste.
is there anything commercially available for remelting and turing failed prints, at least single colored ones, back into usable filaments or does the head that goes into printing affect the integrity of the plastics?
I believe there are ways. I have a machine I need to take out of the box that is suppose to do something like this.
Happy High Five Day. April 19th, 2018
Are you Makiplier's older brother?
DNA tests were inconclusive
Why not print Johnny 5! One of the greatest robots ever! Facebook.com/groups/johnny5toy

It's in progress
You know that is Robby the robot?
ROBOTS!! HIGHFIVE!!

Alright. So the internet has me going nuts saying what 3D printers are the best.
So Im going to ask you guys.
What does everyone suggest for a entry level low cost printer? I dont want to make super huge builds or anything. I just want to play around and learn. Then go from there.
Thanks!
What is your definition of "low cost"? I mean, you can get a Creality Ender 2 for less than $200, and the Ender 3 is looking to be under $200 as well.
3D Printing Nerd I guess low cost for me would be under $300.
Thanks for suggestion!
I would go for the anycubic i3 mega, the Tevo Tarantula(I own this one), or the anet a8. I highly recommend the Tevo tarantula and the anet A8 if u like to add upgrades and learn about how the printer works more. If u want something ready to go then try the i3 mega. Looks like you printin' your tail off, sir..!
High five from holland
Yes movie pallet+
#highfive from Seattle!
Go and check works by gravewolf30. He designs and prints mostly super robots from scratch
I love watching you make useless things: Robots, pokemon, TARDISes...TARDISi?
Cool robots! Though why didn’t the designer just add integrated hinges on the parts that need to fold???..not that hard...I’m not gonna buy it because it just looks very fragile...especially if u bend certain parts...
