- Jason Bateman stars alongside Tina Fey and Jane Fonda in the family dramedy This Where I Leave You, in theaters Friday, so naturally we thought we'd dig into the ET vault and find the first time we sat down with the funny man. Turns out that we've watched Jason Bateman grow up in front of our cameras!

Awww he was such a little muffin, those big eyes he had as a kid...adorable!
He was charming even back then.
I think Silver Spoons would have lasted longer if he stayed on the show. He was the perfect side kick to Ricky Schoeders character
I was SOOOOO GLAD they got rid of that HORRIBLE character. Kids want to watch TV to escape from their problems. Not to REMIND THEM that they are going to get bullied the next day at school.

When Bateman started getting more fan mail than Ricky Schroder he quickly disappeared from SILVER SPOONS.
I am SURPRISED at this. Because his character on Silver Spoons was a TOTAL JERK.
@@rvpstudioscanada3991 Bateman was a terrible fit for Little House on the Prairie (really bad, actually) but turned into an outstanding actor with excellent comedic timing on Silver Spoons. Schroder just wasn't that great of an actor and his character had no spice. It's not surprising that Bateman was more popular. He was even better in "It's your move," his own show. Alfonso Ribero was a good match for Schroder - both mediocre actors with boring character personalities, so no real imbalance of talent.
@@rvpstudioscanada3991 Also, back then, it wasn't unusual for the Fonz or Barberino or that kind of spicy character to be more popular than the main star.

Jason must have had a very good manager because he was still acting after his teenage years and I don't remember him ever getting into any trouble.
@@nickhill8612 He was always a good actor, but just such a poor fit for LHOP. His character was so pointless, bland, so unnecessary

Bateman stole pretty much every Silver Spoons scene he was in. JT (Bobby Fite) was hilarious as well!

Not me! The character he played was HORRIBLE!!!! I found early on in life, that it is the person's *character* that is *more* important, than looks alone.

Actually his first post-"Silver Spoons" series was "It's Your Move," but it only lasted a season whereas "Valerie/ Valerie's Family/ The Hogan Family" ran for years. "It's Your Move" was a funny show though. And he's never really been out of work. He's had more sitcoms than you can shake a stick at in addition to his recent spate of movies.
Sad how Its Your Move has been basically rewritten from existence! Even Jason has denied the shows in a few recent interviews.

When he was adopted by these two other people they would’ve had a brother and a father and mother said bother told his dad that the boy had stole the one dollar bill when he did not so that stepfather took him outside and use the belt on him whipped him Very hard for maybe five minutes or more because it was him and there’s another girl that was his sister play the sister

There is nothing not to like about Jason Bateman. As a kid I noticed him stand out in Silver Spoons, which I loved. He then kind of went into sitcom hell roles, IMO. I was so glad to see his career revival in Arrested Development and that show is a top three TV comedy for me. That lead to more amazing works. I cannot help but root for this guy. I love his dry sense of humor off stage/camera as well.
I read to where he took most of the 1990s off due to drug and alcohol use. Im glad he overcame those demons. I just finished binge watching ozarks. That is my all time favorite jason bateman show.

@@boxerfan2 he said he developed a drug/alcohol problem in the '90s, because he wanted to enjoy his twenties after working so much in his teens to support his parents, and got carried away in the L.A. party scene as an independent, single, young man with money.
He was brilliantly funny as Derek Taylor. Too bad Ricky's mother didn't like him stealing thunder away from Ricky, therefore 'removing' him from the show...
He was better than Ricky F*** Ricky. The show should have been all about Derek Taylor.
Bateman is and has always been a much better actor.

Uh, Jason Bateman's next series after Silver Spoons was It's Your Move, which got cancelled after one season. THEN he moved on to The Hogan Family, originally titled “Valerie," when series star Valerie Harper was still on the show.

For some reason he was like a frenemy to Ricky on Silver Spoons!! LOL Yeah he generally was a jackass to Ricky, a pervert, and kind of a troublemaker but yeah he was funny!! Especially when he hit on girls and Kate!!! LOL

I was so sad that he had to leave the show, I’m currently on season 3 of silver spoons and it’s so hard to get through because it just doesn’t feel the same without derek
Hey I know right Derrick (Jason) made the show.
That's why they got rid of him...he was beginning to overshadow the star of the show.

So cute at 13 years old. He was a better actor than Rick S. He transitioned well as an adult actor. Where is Ricky S now? So much for that.
A sad example of raising up someone by negatively tearing down another. Highly unecessary. You can praise Jason Bateman without denigrating Rick Schroder.
My boyfriend looked shockingly like him as a kid- and still does but today. I was attracted to this kid when he was on Its your move! Only true fans will know THAT one!!!
That show should have lasted longer. "You're gonna laugh".. I remember him saying that to David Garrison's character every time he was caught in shenanigans.

Bateman was good at comedy. Ricky was good at playing more movie dramatic rolls.

It's okay, in the long run (or even within a year) the cream rose to the top.
THEY SKIPPED HIS 2ND SERIES AND HIS STARRING ROLE ON IT'S YOUR MOVE IN 1984.
He used to be James Cooper Ingalls . Life threw james a lot of curves--he was orphaned, taken in by a family who slave-worked him and beat him unjustly--he ran away only to bust his leg in a beartrap, then got shot by a bank robber. It's like Somebody Up There really hated James!
Actually, his next series after Silver Spoons was It’s Your Move which bombed.
It didn't bomb. It was a huge hit but it was cancelled bc mom's everywhere were complaining about his bad influence on their children.

How could you fail to mention his best show??? "It's Your Move" from 1984-85. Look it up. Best show but got canceled due to overprotective suburban moms (likely from the MD area!) after only one season. Redo the whole interview! Thank you!

@@nickhill8612 Thanks! Cool to know of other fans out there. I was 13 when it came out and it was so perfect for us impressionable suburban kids. Our mom's likely worked to get it canceled though. I was furious. Wish they made it available on Blu-ray.

He’s still handsome but his acting isn’t impressive. I see here he has so much emotion. Now he just nods his head with an occasional “yeah” on Ozark.
@@kathyturman1118 but that's what his character in Ozark is supposed to be? apathetic and calm, he's dirven by logic, has an intp type personality. there are instances on the show where it becomes blatantly clear that he doesn't allow himself to get distracted by emotions when he's especially focused on the task at hand. i predict he's about to reach a breaking point next season so we'll see. but i suggest you to watch the movie disconnect or the gift. he's amazing in these.
