Greetings from Scotland! To make people listen we need adverts to be more in your face and truthful - because reality is as painfully truthful as it gets for the people affected.

As part of my job as an IT guy sorting out computers at outreach centers here in the NE of England, I called in on a Barnados centre a couple of times a week for quite a while back in the early 2000's. Amazing staff who always went the extra mile to help these young people.

First thing I did when my wife was expecting our first child was book in for a full first aid course, fortunately I never needed to put the knowledge to use, but I still remember most of it, especially the Heimlich maneuver, so you never know....I believe every parent should get their certificate

With the advent of the Internet and streaming these kind of hard hitting TV adverts seem to be a thing of the past. There were some pretty powerful ones in the 80s too.

FYI smoke alarms still need to be tested if they are wired in. It's not just about the battery, they all go bad after a while and lose their detecting power.

The adverts are supposed to shock..and encourage all to get basic First Aid that could save a life . One never knows when your skills will be needed. Can I also urge folk to nip along to the hopital / clinic and give a pint of blood . Look how many lives you can save ... I managed 99 pints then too old to continue donating ! Some one somewhere will be eternally grateful for your donation that has saved a life of some-one they love . Thank YOU .

The burger ad was meant to be separate from the cancer ad, but to keep the ad shorter they kept the choking on a burger on a parallel with the end stages of cancer.
