Main utility is really that you don’t get rid of the rock buff when you do this. So if you see someone backing off and you‘re already charging your r2 just aim in a different direction and you can preserve your buff
In case anyone else sees this, this is leftover from a previous “Fix” which stopped something similar from happening with the paired great swords repeating Heavy R2’s- instead of having to do the full windup, you could animation cancel with the menu to perform the end of the attack repeatedly with no windup. After the patch, the animation was reset to its beginning when animation cancelling. But because the grounded and airborne parts of this great hammer move set are considered different states, resetting the animation while in the second state sets you to the beginning of that state in stead of to the beginning of the move itself. Essentially, menu-cancels now revert back to the beginning of an animation state on some move sets. Because the GH has two animation states as part of its move set, we get this result.
So basically the fully charged r2 gets cancelled and replaced by a normal r2 which means the overall tracking of the move is better but no rocks will get shot off
Still working in 2022. Kinda hard to pull off at first so just keep trying. But it's def possible edit: if you are on pc shift tab also works if you wanna replicate this glitch (it's easier to do with shift+tab but it's less convenient)
So the timing for me seems to work best when you *anticipate* your right foot to kick up into the air when you initiate the the full charged r2 jump. That works for me on xbox one tho

I am the only one that hates these kind of glitches? I wouldn't use it even if I was skilled enough. It's annoying duel with someone that uses glitches.
@Questions well it works on a lot of weapons but it really doesn’t make much of a difference for most of them. I think ledos, black knight glaive and great club are the ones which are most noticable

It’s simple just open the menu or pressing r2 again when your person is about to do the Jump at the start of the fully charged r2

Works on all fps and a whole variety of weapons. Most noticable on ledos tho
