In my humble opinion Ricky Skaggs is one of the best musicians I've ever seen but he has never learned that people want to hear him play not listen to him rattle on about nothing just because he is in front of a microphone. I hoped he would slow down with age but I saw him a year ago and he still talks for 5 plus minutes between each tune. It really drags down the excitement level that ramps up while he performs. Especially when he is playing with Kentucky Thunder. As a side note I was disappointed that he failed to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame again this year. It's time H-of-F folks.
daniel morris almost no one talks less with age. I bootlegged benny golson a couple years ago and when i split up the tracks the talking was longer than the playing
@Terry Eugene I'm not all that easily distracted and I did notice there was some tuning going on. I guess I was actually referring more so to the last time I saw them in a small theatre here in Ontario and his musicians weren't tuning between every song. Sometimes yes but mostly they stood there with blank looks on there faces as Ricky repeated what was I've found out later the same stories in the same places for every show on that tour. No spontaneity. But when the band got at it they were excellent. Too notch musicians everyone one of them. Plus in all honestly there were significant groans heard when he got on his Christianity soapbox. Not that it isnt his right to believe and say what he feels he needs too but it didn't go over the greatest in southern Ontario. Maybe more suited to the Bible belt areas in Canada and the US. ✌🇨🇦
@@danielmorris3687 Ricky is. Christian above all else. I don't think he'd ask yo to change who you are when you perform right? Also, the temperment of bluegrass instruments moves when you capo and we have to capo for the style to utilize the open string sound. Banjo and guitar will have to tune just slightly when the capo change occurs. No offense meant. I'm simply commenting my perspective on your comment. Still great music and that's all that matters in the end. Talking is part of bluegrass and he talked really briefly in this recording. Perhaps your expectation are set by other types of music that don't care if they are fully in tune and jut have different culture and values. I know most Canadians are super liberal and hate Christianity. In bluegrass you have all of these acoustic instruments with metal strings and a ton of overtones. Without being in tune, the engine doesn't sound aligned. Tony talked about tuning on the effect of the overall rhythm. Anyway, just my thoughts here.

In my opinon Ricky does fine as a MC, and he was probably just making a friendly joke about Emmy Lou and not trying to make fun of her.
