My dad died 4 years ago and I heard James version a month and a half after he died. I was a mess. When I watched iam walk into that room I was a mess hearing his story then when he said the song I just screamed because losing my dad was the worst thing I've ever been through. When the verse before they turn off the lights plays is a difficult one because dad was on life support and we made the decision as a family to take him off of it because he didn't want that. He had two strokes and had no brain activity after the second one. That haunts me. But I love iam and I'm so glad he won.
He won the season. At the end of the run, he sang this song with the original songwriter and singer.
How great is that for what seems to be a good young man.

Hopefully idol doesn't block it later. Still their most viral video.. notice they hid quite a few of his though, so this season's are able to show up. lol He actually has 8 of the top 10.
That performance is much too good to only show a bit of it.
You need to watch James Blunt's video of Monsters. He wrote the song for his dad after his dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney Disease decades after having donated one of his kidneys to someone else. James wrote this song for his dad to tell him how much he loved him before he died. Because of the video, a distant cousin came forward & was tested & was a match for his dad. His dad is still alive today. The video was shot in one take & James Blunt refused to allow it to be autotuned because he wanted it to be raw emotion. While the video was being shot, it was also the first time his dad was hearing it. I heard James Blunt say that after he was done singing the song, he & all the crew were in tears & his dad was comforting them saying, "Why are you all crying? I'm the one dying."

I was waiting to see your reaction to the rest of the video at the end where it shows him singing with his dad and everything but you stopped it right after the judges spoke. The last parts were sad too.

He grew up singing with his dad. This was probably their last song they sung together. Iam's mom said that Rodney knew his time was limited, and you can see that by the way he looks at Iam. They were singing this for his aunt who lost her baby.. not knowing that Rodney would go into the hospital a couple of weeks later. That is a powerful story. What an incredible loss to a family. Yet, we see this young man share his loss as an encouragement to others. What a great legacy to pass on from your family.
He said that so many have written to him about their loss, and what his share meant to them. He said but we’ve helped him too, because he’s still grieving.

Iam almost stopped singing because he said everytime he said he could here his dad singing with him. His mom told him that's a special gift that he could still here him when he sang. His dad is still with him. If you notice he looks to his right when he's singing that's where Rodney used to sit when they would sing together.
