    I grew up in Springfield MA. I lived on cape cod for my high school years though, so i also got to see alot of the Eastern MA malls too. Western Mass had some hidden gems though, and I think Western MA is very underrated! Left MA as a teenager, and I miss it. I've been living in FL ever since. I came to this mall once as a kid in 1996 and 1998. they had an awesome laser tag place, and an interskate 91. i loved this mall.

    Katie used to work at the Aeropostale there until she got 5 five phone calls in a row. One was someone yelling, possibly an old man or something. Then the next phone call was Amherst police department and she was trying to talk but they couldn't hear her :(

    I grew up at this mall. The inside food court had a Taco Bell, Arby's, Subway, Sbarros, and a fast food Chinese place. There was an arcade called Dream Machine where I used to waste my parent's money. Interskate 91 up above where we had a lot of birthday parties. The food court had this big fountain and sculpture with cobblestones, the idea was the you felt you were outside in some old European city while you ate your fast food before you movie. Friday night involved going to see a movie, eating taco bell and wandering around Media Play.

      Same here! Oh man, early 90s? i was livi9ng in Amherst from 89 to like mid 93, and remember all of those! You don't happen to have any old pictures of the mall back then do you? I wish we still had some but oh man, the dream machine was the bomb, and the way they made it look bigger with all the mirrors! Had a ton of pinball machines too, a small racetrack, air hockey, fighting games, x-men, terminator 2, pit fighter! street fighter alpha, final fight, TMNT turtles in time! i miss those days.

    it used to have a huge arcade next to the theater under interskate 91 we get dropped off and get picked up either hours later or like my older stepsister the next day interskate 91 used to go all night long sometimes . i rember in 1981 most of the machines in the arcade were pinballs. it was the biggest arcade for over 25 years around. before home consoles killed it off.

    Thank you for showcasing this iconic mall. It doesn't look very dead to me. You didn't mention Aeropostale one time though :(

    interesting back story to this mall killed by GREED, they have been squeezing their clients dry for more and chasing them out thats why it is dead plus covid made it worse. I remember hearing from the Ground Round ( which was a great restaurant) pre 2008 collapse that the management wanted to raise their rent I recall from 20k/ month to 25 k/ month plus a percentage of the gross, the owner declined and the space sat empty for over ten years and is still half empty used as auxiliary space similar happened to taco bell they wanted a huge price increase and a percentage and taco bell closed and built their own standalone building in the home depot plaza next door, buffalo wildwings same story outrageous rent and they wanted more and a cut bww closed , I am sure its similar to the other stores that have closed wouldent these fools be wiser to be reasonable and keep the clients? as more stores open attract more clients which fuel the stores

    My family is from Northampton and I currently live in Florence (part of Northampton). They first opened Mountain Farms Mall many years ago with a Woolco (new name for Woolworth's) and the rest of Route 9 was mostly tobacco farms and meadows, very beautiful. There was a Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge and restaurant on that road for many years as well but not much else. When they built the Hampshire Mall, I used to bring my mother and my wife there to shop and they both liked Steiger's which was a big department store there. I watched that whole area (Route 9) get over developed and it doesn't even look the same anymore. No longer is it as picturesque as it once was. I have no idea what that yellow storefront was. I no longer go over that way.

    Pinz is fun there but that’s it. If you want a really dead mall go to Eastfield, it’s not far

    The most notable thing about the mall is the absolutely insane floor tile pattern. It's the most bizarre haphazard thing.

    • @Ham549
      @Ham549 2 года назад

      I used to have a very normal tile pattern but somebody decided to get ”creative”. Probably somebody in a position of power who sucks they knew what they were doing style wise but didn't.

    I visited this mall not too long ago and I’m honestly surprised that the JCPenney here is still open. They must be doing something right that is keeping its doors open, especially considering there’s a much larger store right down the road at the Holyoke Mall.

      I agree. There has got to be a reason for that. It is very close to a couple of colleges so perhaps that helps them a bit. Thanks for watching.

      @@betterversionn nope that's where Best buy was I bought a lot of stuff there. There is a pet store there now Media Play is where the racing cart place was. I'm literally looking at the mall as I'm typing this now.

      @@betterversionn We are talking about 8:27 in this video which showed where the Buffalo Wild Wings and Best buy entrance were. I remember being in Best buy and some other yelled to her teenage son that they need to go to Target to get him new underwear. I started snickering and the mom gave me a WTF look, since you realize that she just did and started very nervously and loudly giggling which of course made it worse for the poor teenager.
