    Regarding 30:00 I feel like that level of reflection and introspection just comes with growing up. You have to remember that her first 3 albums were written when she was in high school or had just graduated. Even by the time she released 1989 she was just 24 but already one of the biggest pop stars in the world. I’m that age now and if I had to release music that would be dissected my millions of fans I wouldn’t want to share my deepest most introspective takes but would release fun pop songs.

      I agree and it’s just natural that her music got more mature as she did too. But she still had amazing writing though, like”All Too Well” “The Last Time” “Dear John” and more are not just fun pop songs lol. And even “Back to December” shows that she wasn’t just like “all relationships suck because of bad men” even at 19.

    I think that everything you guys described when it comes to her concerts and her music is precisely why I love Taylor. The difference in her albums, the growth she has had and even how interesting it is that 32 yr old taylor is singing songs that 15-year-old taylor wrote but still loving them and paying them homage and like, she's not embarrassed by any of her albums and how she thought, she has allowed herself to grow with music. And when it comes to her concerts, we must understand that taylor AT HER CORE is a theatre kid, she cares about putting on a good performance a big one at that, especially now that her concerts are way bigger.

    When I was in Italy, I visited a ruin site with an outdoor amphitheater left pretty in-tact. My choir teacher sang from the stage and even though we were outdoors in an open space, the amphitheater bounced his voice in a beautiful, haunting way. Outdoor buildings CAN be built to project music, but they are not as much of a norm any more as most large spaces are designed for many different kinds of entertainment.

    • @johndododoe1411
      @johndododoe1411 Год назад +4

      Good amphitheater acoustics also projects speech and instruments just as easily . But the availability of electric sound systems has made venue builders lazy . Still, I think good performance schools still teach how to fill a room with your voice, so you can give a rousing speech while the power is out .

      I could have a whole conversation about earplugs on concerts! I have tried several different. I liked my ER-20 pro, they were just turning down the level of notice without cutting of the treble as some do, or the bass as others do. But I couldn't wear them for a whole concert because they would start to rub on the skin in the ear. So when they broke, I bought V-moda Fadersand they were life changing! They are better than the ER-20 pro and so comfortable, they look like in ear headphones. And nowadays I have for one of my ears a custom made earplug, but for that one I have a too sound excluding filter for it to be nice to use it on a concert. And the customer made is so expensive that I'm scared to loose it.

    Taylor has said a few times she doesn't feel like a person sometimes. It's like her fame makes her feel too big for this world (another reason she's all big in the Anti-Hero music video). And like she would be on Tumblr in the earlier years looking at other girls living a normal life and wish that were her sometimes. She's just been through so much for so long, I can't imagine that level of fame

    On the topic of Taylor having a false sense of modesty, I think it made sense for her Reputation tour. She literally disappeared for years, thinking everyone hated her guts. So to come back and see tens of thousands of people show up night after night, I can see why She would be like “holy shit, you guys love me????” But this tour??? The tour that sold out in minutes and got Congress to question monopolies? That kind of surprise doesn’t fit in.

    I grew up listening to Taylor swift. Literally I was 6 and now I’m 22. I was one of those people losing their minds at the show. Just hearing some of the songs I grew up with live was insane. I cried through the entire fearless bit. I saw your footage from the floor and it looked tame compared to the nosebleeds. I had nosebleeds I just couldn’t afford anything better which I’m still kinda upset about. I paid the same for nosebleed as I did for row 15 floor for loverfest (that never happened of course). The nosebleeds everyone is scream singing and I think more of the real fans ended up at the top. I have the most embarrassing footage that my mom took of me and my sister screaming to death by a thousand cuts which was our surprise song. So Glad you guys had fun at the eras tour and I’m so jealous of your surprise song :D

    I grew up listening to country music, and I can, no lie, remember the first time I heard "Tim McGraw" on the radio. (It was a neat full-circle moment when that was one of her surprise songs at the Eras concert I attended.) Taylor fascinates me. Her vocals, as well as her growth and maturity as an artist, have certainly evolved with time, yet she's still able to do justice to the songs she wrote when she was a teenager. It's been a lot of fun following her throughout the years. (Admittedly, I did slack off during her "Lover," "folklore," and "evermore" albums, so Eras was exactly what I needed to revive my admiration for her.) I don't care what anyone says. Give Taylor all the accolades; she deserves them.

    I understand Ben’s comment about the “rich people thing to do right now.” I agree with his assessment as I made the same observation. The fans in attendance at the Eras Tour Concert that I saw were truly fans of Taylor and her music. They took time to learn lyrics and educate themselves on the stories behind the writing. People put a lot of thought into their outfits and the eras they represented. There was a sense of community within the those who attended. We sang along together, we danced, tears were shed, bracelets exchanged. I didn’t know anyone around me by name, but we all were connected by our love and appreciation for the music. It was a special experience. By comparison I attended the Adele Concert in Las Vegas and those tickets on the resale market were astronomically expensive and not easily attainable financially (Ranging in the thousands of dollars per ticket as standard before the residency was extended). Luckily we had the benefit of verified fan presale. The people in attendance at Adele’s concert that we sat near many were the equivalent of the “men in suits” Ben is referring to, but also these women’s had on head to toe Chanel, didn’t know more than a couple of the major hits that Adele sings and were not as invested. Meanwhile I was crying, knew the words to all the songs, found the concert to be one of the best ones I have ever attended, etc. there were of course tried and true Adele fans there but there was also a lot of incredibly wealthy people with their $10,000 handbags, suits, dresses, jewelry and shoes, where it felt like this concert was the thing to do and show to watch that night. For me, that weekends with Adele experience made me love her even more and was a night to remember, but I felt alone in that I didn’t get the sense that the people around me felt that same level of connection and intensity.

It’s like almost listening to different people. I have a coworker who’s OBSESSED with Harry Potter. Her whole house if full of Harry Potter stuff and she knows all the names and details that not even JK Rowling knows. There's also past journal entries that she shared in booklets sold with lover where she talks about feeling like a tiger at a zoo. She also talks about it in Miss Americana when the people are standing outside her apartment in NYC. You're spot on as to show she may feel.

    i remember being in school when speak now came out and talking about it with my best friend at the time, never would’ve expected as much growth and staying power as she exhibits now as an artist! i fell out of her music between 1989-lover, and only got back into it at folklore. i appreciate her songwriting maturing alongside her primary demographic the most, and it almost prepared me for what was to come; i listened to fifteen a couple years before 15, 22 a couple years before, etc. and it allowed me to mix nostalgia with the comfort of shared experience when relistening to those songs during those years. i agree with your thoughts on delving into personal life; it’s a tough distinction to make as a public figure, especially when she’s used her position for good (political statements, charity, and activism)-that boundary that fits between public and private can become worn away by our current media and parasocial relationships that develop and shape the new definition of “celebrity”, and when placed on a traditional celebrity it feels a bit distasteful and unhinged at times. people have always hated on heartthrobs getting significant others out of jealousy, but that conversation now shifts to “it’s your duty and obligation to choose a partner that fits the ideals and values of who we think deserves you” and that’s pretty wild

    Ben, listening to you talk about the types of music you like and nostalgia makes me think you would love Lana Del Rey lol please listen to some of her music! Her song "Old Money" is exactly like what you were describing! Others you would like would be Young and Beautiful, Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, Kintsugi, Flipside, etc. Also Taylor has said so many times how much Lana has been an inspiration for her, so please check her out!!

    Yes!! Thank you for promoting ear plugs! Concerts or places that are very loud (like bars) can really damage your hearing and people are so unaware of this. It's so easy to purchase reusable ear plugs and save your hearing in the long run.

    I also go into analysis mode at large social gatherings, and the only times I've been moved to tears at concerts are watching other people's reactions to the music and the artist.
    I went to Justin Beiber once and was in the bathroom when he came out & I started crying because of the reaction of the fans because it was so intense

    Again I want to dispel the ticket price rumors!! She set her face value tickets very affordable starting at $49 and the most expensive was $499 for the first few rows. I chose the most expensive tier possible and it was $499 for 8th row. My cousin got the $49 seat and it’s still great and others paid $200 for floor face value. She also had them turn off dynamic pricing. Unfortunately ticketmaster f’d up and scalpers got the tix and are now resaling at insane value. There’s already a lawsuit by the attorney general of a few states because of it and the DOJ is investigating them. Taylor legit cares about her fans being able to afford her tickets.

    • @katarzynan3724
      @katarzynan3724 Год назад

      dynamic pricing of ticketmaster (and livenation as they are same thing) is the most fucked up thing. It's outrageous how the price can get 2-3 even 5 times higher within 30minutes and it continues to grow! They have like international monopoly and it's crazy 🙄

    • @lizalove91
      @lizalove91 Год назад

      @@katarzynan3724 yeah I’m def glad she had them turn it off or else the face value tix would have been like 5k 😅apparently it’s up to the artist to leave it on or off! But everything else was so so awful. I waited in queues for 8+ hours two days with a code and a boost and just got tons of error codes. I was lucky enough to get the second chance tix

    wellll she wouldn't exactly put the awful things her new bf did in front of the public eye because they are genuinely awful, but there is a way to offer constructive criticism without tearing people down. she's obviously dealt with so much crap it's probably hard to differentiate good and bad criticism after a certain point, but yeah... no excuses for the things her current bf has done or said. he even yesterday said they don't matter which is just... noooot ok. i'm glad you guys had fun though! and yes cristine you're right shawn and camila were totally there hugging

    I loved how she singled out sections to make them feel special. My seats were lower bowl but kind of behind the stage, so when she turned around to each corner to say Hi during Anti-Hero, it felt SO special. I know it wasn’t personal or anything, but after looking at her back from the stage the whole time, it was so nice to see her facing me for a second. It’s one of my favorite videos I have from the concert. (Vegas N2)

    I've started to love Taylor Swift too and I very much agree with Ben on her songwriting skills being her biggest plus. :) I have liked some individual songs of hers in the past, just more on the pure pop-side, like Blank Space, Shake It Off and Bad Blood. But only recently I finally listened to the whole song Anti Hero and I fell in love with her lyrics and the synth-pop tone in her music, and then I started to listen to more and more songs. :) anywayyyyy, great artist :)

    16:56 last month Iggy Pop played several shows in LA and he changed up the venue every couple nights. Most shows were booked at the larger venue, but one was at a small theater that could only fit ~1,200 people. It felt like getting into a Time Machine, people were able to actually get up next to him and stage dive. Not feasible for a whole tour, but I wish more large music stars would try doing fun lil intimate shows like this every once in a while. Pepper in some lowkey tiny set nights in the dry period between the stadium tours haha

    I was also at the NJ N1 Taylor Swift Concert! I'm not a Swiftie but got a ticket from a friend and painted my nails using electrostatic and crimson void in an ombre with reflective holo and silver flakie as a topper.
    I was sitting behind the VIP tent in the rows above, when a celebrity came out during the openers to take their seat, there was a lot of cheering and I had no idea who was entering the tent, lol.
    Some things to add from my own experience. When I took my wristband home it blinked the whole weekend and didn't stop until after the 3rd show, I thought I might need to remove the battery if it didn't stop. Taking the trains to and from NYC meant I had no time to get any merch. I got there by half past 5 (trains didn't start running until around 4) and the merch line was too long, and I had to leave immediately after the show because the trains from the stadium stopped at 1 AM. I didn't get home until almost 3 in the morning because NYC trains were running on a reduced schedule. I used the loops earplugs the entire performance, and there were some moments during the show where I wondered if the audio sounded bad because of the earplugs or because of the actual sound quality, glad to know it was a general audio thing.
    My friends were so happy to see 'Maroon' played, and I also think it was a great win to hear it. People wanted some songs played specifically for the New York area (since NY is one of the few cities that gets name dropped in her songs), and having 'Maroon' was extra special since it is one of the better NY songs. I thought she might play 'Welcome to New York', but she played that on N3. She played 'Holy Ground' on N2, another song that name drops New York.

    re: 3.5 hour performances. I went to her show in MA on 5/19 and definitely would’ve been content (maybe even happier) with a show 45-60 min shorter. I love Taylor and this was my third time seeing her since 2013, but it’s so long to be around that many people and keeping up your energy.
