Grateful Dead - Big Boss Man (Mountain View, CA 6/16/90)

- "A staple of the Pigpen-era Grateful Dead, Big Boss Man departed the repertoire when Pigpen departed the stage in 1972. Although it returned in 1981 for 15 performances over the next 15 years, it was sadly never incorporated into the setlist on a full time basis. This penultimate version features a gnarly lead vocal by Jerry." - David Lemieux

Hey Dave thanks for all these clips, very cool seeing some vids with good sound and video quality. But since you got all this stuff sitting around in the vault, how about putting out some of these shows in their entirety?
Can't help but think how cover songs can be 'a staple' of serious bands. More American commercial stuff, guess this was that then. Elvis like to nick a lot of songs as well, right?
I know One version was with Bonnie raitt, San Rafael Marin county San Francisco California rastafari yes I keep on keeping on, 🍄🪘🍄🔥🍄🇺🇲🍄🌁🌁🌁🍄🪕🍄
I LOVE THIS VERSION!!!!!!! There is something about Jerry.......he looks super healthy and on point! Just laying down the groove like no one else can.....
Good organ runs gets me goin every time!
“You ain't so big, you just tall, that's just about all”
I love their 90s versions of older songs ❤️
Jerry channels Pigpen in this. Love it
Got to hear this live once. My 4th show. 12/31/81. In retrospect, probably the best show in the 126 I saw. Big Boss Man,. My first Iko (truly sureal). Morning Dew and a Dark Star thrown in for good measure. Ken Kesey to ring in the New Year. Wrap it all in a bow, dose it good, and you have one memorablw evening. Thank ypu Dead family for all the joyful memories.
Always think of pig when I hear this
The whole June '90 - Expo, Shoreline, (JGB Warfield), & Eugene w/ Little Feat opening - was awesome!
Get it Brent! Mydland is feeling it here! As I'm sure we all are
Stone cold gem of a performance from everyone, esp. Jerry and Brent
Excellent video! Beautiful clarity! Thanks 💀🥀
Jerry's opening line was just Bad@zz! Like a boss. Love how in the start of his solo, he just kicks back... picks a peddle and then gets his groove on.
And another view from the vault cut
got to see them play Big Boss Man once of all the shows I went to. Spectrum 4-8-85 In The Midnight Hour > Walking The Dog > Big Boss Man
Love that show on tape!
They should have played this more. Blues in E, Jerry with the Blues scales at work. When you think of Jerry you think Mixolydian but he could do the blues so well too. Put some more Blues out!
Come on'...let's see some more stuff we haven't seen before!
Stop, being ungrateful, Jay.
I was there, groovin' in the lawn... ❤⚡💙
This performance was kinda smooth. Very chill.
This was a great night and memory ty
Big boss man wont you read my comment.... hahah Big Thumbs up. Keep em coming these treasures get me through the end of the week
Man that was sweet keep um coming
Trying to find in 1984redrocks& alpine valley Wis
0:32 Bobby telling the drummers to slow down is foreshadowing if I ever saw it 😂
another drink of water , thank you , peace
I love you for this one!
Peace of mind and heart 💓
I dig this slowed down mellow version.
Thanks!!!!
Brendt goin to town in this one
The best part of this performance is Brent. Ever since finishing Long Strange Trip, I get sad when I see 90's Jerry.
How about the Scarlet>Fire from the night before? Or hey remember the DDHNM bust out from Shoreline 9/29/89? Even the So Many Roads from here on 8/25/93 with Jerry pumping his fists in the air✊ would be sweet too. You know something that the majority of us who care haven't already purchased on DVD from an official release???
❤ & ✌ 🙏
Yes!
Agree w/ J Field, majority of what's being put out has been previously released. How about more unreleased material??
Yeah Brent 😎
Hard to do at this tempo .great performance
Frustrating that almost all of these so far seem to be from the few DVDs that have been officially released. So much more video in the vault that hasn't been seen!
✌ ☮ & 💚 💜 👂 🌎
One great thing about Deadheads, they never have an opinion about anything!
Amen! ~n most have a sense of humor... thanx~>
Yes, thank you Dave! Keep posting 80s and 90s Dead because they clearly didn’t play shows in the 60s or 70s👍🏻 it’s not like the vaults are loaded with shit from those eras.
FUNKY FRESH
Yeah. This is great, but watch the one Jerry did with Bonnie Raitt. You're gonna love that one too.
In as much as, " Words fail"..... this pumps the Life right into me. So who wants ta race... to the cemetery ~n back. Marks get set, Go........•°`^
Classic! This is one you don’t hear everyday. Must have been a little chili but not cold enough to not endure Bobby’s nut huggers 🤣
Shivers... how great is The Grateful Dead!!!
Bob Wier your looking Sweet
I was there. Jerry forgot the one verse. (“I’m gonna get me a boss man, one gonna treat me right. Work hard in the day time, sure get stoned at night. Big boss man....”)
I should be there on The Stage
Foot stompin.
i prefer the sure get stoned at night line..got me through a many dayof work
I know Jerry loved Rosebud, but IMHO it did not sound as good as Tiger.
Rosebud sounded like the black and white version of Tiger
I think Tiger was a way better sounding guitar for sure!
PEACE 💀👽🎸🎵🎶
True, Tiger is my favorite tone as well..however, Rosebud is better than any that followed to my ears.
Now...how about that bass?
@@bradcrabtree9276 that was Phil's then brand new Ken Smith bass that he debuted in Carson back in May. He flexes hard in the China>Rider from set 2. Good stuff.
Is that a little Bobby lead I hear in there right after Brent’s break?
Jimmy Reed song
Some crazy Jerry vibrato. Still, not the same without Pig.
Bill looks destroyed ... great jams!
What a train wreck.
I had forgotten how horrible that was.
☮️🇺🇦🙏✌🏽🪐✨ Pray for peace in Israel
Wow just look at that guitar. It’s just cool, and that’s about all.
No disrespect to the pig, but I love jerry singing this number!!.... not as much as pigpens of course..
I was excited to hear this song in 1990, but meh.
Fugazi
isn't that a small automatic weapon....could be a minor threat!
Jerry is clearly so high. It's hard to watch sometimes.
Check Bill out too
