In our fourteenth video, we visit Hillsborough, home of Sheffield Wednesday FC, in Sheffield (S6 postcode), do a joint audit with @LBLA-Audits, discover the memorial guardian and are shocked at the lack of statues of players/managers etc.

Im a Leeds fan and always love going to Hillsborough. It was always a semi final venue pretty much every year. so im surprised you didnt know its capacity? and it was a lot more before all seater stadiums were made law. Think you need to do a bit more research when you go to other grounds, dont just rely on your mate

    • @Laudits
      @Laudits  3 месяца назад

I knew it was large, but how many people know a stadium’s exact capacity?
How many do you reckon you could have got in there standing before the law change?
Appreciate the feedback, but that’s not how I do these videos. I rely on finding out what I can on the day, using the resources available (except the initial google 😂). It makes it more enjoyable for me.

@@Laudits72,894 in 1934 v man city there's an iconic picture of Pele playing in front of a sold out kop of 40k (Google Pele Hillsborough) spin kop is name of design of it. The stand next to club shop is cantilever (no upright supports to restrict view) which I believe is still longest cantilever stand around, golden elephants are because chairman is Thai apparently they're a good luck charm in Thailand (not Sheffield) the picture of players on wall is a icons throughout clubs history, under south stand is wall with names in bricks of fans, on front of the away end 97 seats are white and not used for those who died in disaster there is also a memorial plaque for the 97 on wall just before you go over bridge to reception.

You missed the best views of the ground; every stand can be framed beautifully by getting the hills around it in the background. Even the 40 year old PRESTO STAND looks good with Wharncliffe around it.

Wednesdays kop was the biggest terracing in europe not too many years ago,far bigger than Liverpool. Hillsborough is one of the most iconic historic stadiums in football. World cups, euro cups,fa cup semi's,league cups have all been played there. Wednesday were one of the best clubs in the country 20 years ago and through history but since relegation have fallen fron grace a little. One of the oldest professional clubs in history 156 years old. Wednesday use to play at Bramhall lane well before sheff united were ever formed. Wednesday were called the blades and united stole the name when Wednesday changed to the owls. Hope that helps and apologies for the ignorant woman on the desk who obviously knew nothing about the club.

Wednesday were reknowned in the 40s to 70s for investing in the ground instead of the players, and part of the problems in 89 were that after relegation to the third tier we couldn't actually afford to keep the ground in good repair, and the secretary failed to inform the FA that it hadn't had the relevant safety certificates in years to host big games.

A note on the memorial; it didn't go up till Dave Allen left as he refused to have a permanent acknowledgement of the event at the ground. Local business owners put up a memorial at the corner of Parkside Road and Middlewood Road, and the council dedicated the replanting of the walled garden in the park next to the ground to it and put up You'll Never Walk Alone gates that are still there today

Thanks for the video. The picture around 06:40 is of club legends across the years eg Derek Dooley, Roland Nilsspn, David Hirst. In Danny Roehl, Wednesday have an opportunity to make progress despite a difficult decade under the current ownership, although credit to the club for bringing Herr Röhl in. As Mark the Pitsmoor Owl states, on trophies won and top flight seasons, Wednesday eclipse many clubs and all others within Yorkshire. Sadly, a lack of investment in the stadium sees a restricted capacity of under 35k at present. You're welcome any time to sample a matchday. Best wishes! 🦉 🇬🇧

Biggest club in Sheffield even though the last 24 years have been the worst in our history they are still Yorkshires most successful football club
I must say they have the best & the most loyalty fans in England
& what a brilliant old school ground 36 fa fa cup semi finals World Cup finals in 1966
Euros in 96 with the record attendance at Hillsborough almost 73k fans saw Sheffield Wednesday v Man City in 1934/35 season

@@Laudits we’ve got a great manger now not sure about the owner but the Best asset the club has is the unbelievable Fanbase they took 48k fans to Wembley stadium for a league one playoff final
Which they Won they only got relegated because of the chairman over spending so he got us points deduction but that’s the past the majority of our history have been played in Englands top tier
I think maybe in the next 1-3 years we could get back to were we should be in the Premier League
I’m not being funny but SUFC is just a Rip off of SWFC as Wednesday are 22 years older they was called the Blades first they also played at Bramhall lane but left & changed their nickname to the OWLS
This was 22 years before SUFC was Invented
