How to Condition Locs DIY Herbal Tea Steam

- In this video I show you how I condition my locs after washing without using heavy cream-based over the counter conditioners. I make an herbal tea rinse & steam to infuse my hair and scalp with nutrients that moisturize as well as strengthen my hair follicles. Because I suffer from Seborrheic Dermatitis, I am always looking for the most healthy options for my hair and scalp. I hope you find this helpful :)
The hair steamer I use is by the brand Red Pro. I purchased it at my local beauty supply on sale for $80. It also has a facial steamer attachment.

Greetings. You are my go to for my locs, as you are calm, non chatty and you stay on topic without judgement. Frankly, I'm tired of posers, long intros, lectures on what and what I SHOULD do for my hair, selling products at great expense for the average working (or non working) person and such. Thank you! I also love that your husband so patiently washes your hair.
I know this is late, but Yannie the Locologist name dropped you in a video and I had to come over. I have baby locs and I am looking for ways to naturally moisturize my locs without using heavy creams. This really helped and your locs are super beautiful.
My hair also does not like the heavy products or oil. The steam gives me such bounce and a natural shine.
I'm only 2 weeks in..total newbie, and I have asked TONS of locticians (professionals) about steaming locs to maintain a healthy balance and moisture...they look at me like I'm crazy.
Once my locs have matured, I'm doing it...this video just solidified my decision! Thank you, LC! xo. #subbed
Indigo Love Bae awesome! Be sure to use distilled water and only steam within the max allotted time - 15-20 minutes 💛
Indigo Love Bae Congrats on your journey!
Loc Crush...correct; distilled water, over regular water and limit the time I steam...got it! Thank you so much. xo.
Thank you very much, Lola! I'm coming up to my 6-week point...I have days when I'm staring at this new woman in the mirror, unsure of what to do then there are other days where I just spritz my locs and go, feeling my best--ever.
Great video super helpful! Also your husband caring for your hair literally brought tears to my eyes (cancer vibes lol) that's love love
This was so peaceful to watch ❤
I agree. No "look-at-me" vibes, singing, finger snapping, hair flicking or additional unnecessary narration. This beautifully put together video speaks volumes for itself without the gimmicks. Thank you.
Its 2020, and I want to sincerely thank you for sharing. Its nice to have helping hands and shared knowledge.🤗💆♀️🥰
NekaNeek P 💛💛💛
This is so wonderful. I grow, and dry some of these herbs in my garden. 🌿🌱🌾
love the instructional video... this is my 2nd journey after about a 8 year break and i'm looking for organic ways to nurture my locs; this seems like one of the ways to go for me...thank you... i'm in the pool probably 4 days a week and try to rinse my locs each time to remove the chlorine and probably actually wash and deep condition once every 3 weeks; can't wait to try this herbal steam condition treatment. thanks again
By the way always love your music..👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 so relaxing ❤️
Maz777 Naturals thank you 😊
2021. I love this video! You put me on so much to this steaming ritual. I come back every time I wash my hair! I wondered how often you wash and do this rinse?
Do you still use this process? If so how often
thank you again for another helpful video! Im having a really bad SD flare up right now, I will try this. Also, was that your husband helping you with the rinse, I think that is so beautiful!!!!!!
Tina Grant I hope this helps you thru your flareup! Yes, it was my husband 💛💛💛
Absolutely beautiful Sista!!!
Happy I have all these herbs in my cabinet 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I feel like I can smell the beautiful scents through the video!!!
Amazing saw this on your Instagram. Would love to try this on my locs! 🤔 😮 You and your locs are beautiful 👌🏾👌🏾😮😀👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾😘❤️❤️❤️
Maz777 Naturals Thank you 💛💛💛
very relaxing! those herbs smell good I'm sure. beautiful hair😏
SheAnatural B thank you 💛 Yes! Smells good enough to drink :)
Where did u get that steamer?? Wow I loved the way you broke everything down in this video
Danni Braswell Thank you 💛 The brand name of this steamer is Red Pro. I bought it at my local beauty supply store on sale for around $80. I believe Amazon sells it as well :)
Can this be used as a regular leave in spray?
Thanks so much for this video! It's freezing where I live and needed a scalp treatment for my locs that doesn't involved oil or creamy conditioner. Hopefully you can answer the two questions I have: How often do you steam? And how many minutes do you steam for each time? Thank you!
Can you use the essential oils of these same herbs and steam your locs?
Great video, I need my locs washed by someone!
might try this someday. thanks for sharing!
So are you just letting your hair air dry after the steaming?
Great video
Your video was so helpful and informative! Thank you for sharing! I'm now suffering from the same scalp issue. Would you recommend this treatment for someone with starter locs like me?
MsChina627 I'm glad you found it helpful. Yes, for all hair types as well
MsChina627 Do you oil your scalp? I had to realize my scalp doesn't like any oil.
MsChina627 same here. My experience with oiling my scalp has not been good. I've found that when I'm going thru a flare up in particular, piling makes it worse. I have been experimenting though
Lola Rew I thought my scalp did like oil but after I stopped using it I noticed my scalp behaves much better than before
I've use a ginger rinse, it's helped a lot.
Absolutely beautiful ma’am!!!!!
Love your video. Should the rinse be covered while steeping?
Nice. You had assistance to do the rinse...is it more difficult to do alone?
great video!!!! very informative!! thank you
Can this also simple be used as a spray/mist? Or would it be too strong and dry my hair out?
Hello, where did you get the rose buds from?
Great Informative video and instructions
Do you save the herbs for a second batch until you do another rinse? or do you throw them out?
I use and sale Doterra essential oils products. I should use my diffuser as a streamer.
So this may seem like a silly question, but after washing with your natural shampoo, am I suppose to dry my hair first then do the rinse and steam or wash steam, steam, then rinse with herbal conditioning, then steam….. sorry, I’m a little lost
Can you use essentials oils instead of the fresh herbs?
I do....All benefits can be got by just boiling 2 cups of water and bring it to boil. After boiling remove from fire and add two drops of your favourite essential oil. Make a tent only for your hair. Keep your face outside. Let the steam infuse the oil in your scalp. Do it twice a week and see how your hair condition changes. No rinsing,,, nothing. U can do this anytime in washed or unwashed hair. Once or twice a week of 5 minutes session is enough. If u want u can style your hair and go to work.
How do you dry your hair? Do you air dry it or use a blow dryer?
Great Instructional video! I've got the herbal rinse ingredients...now I just need a hood steamer. I've got a QRedew, but it's not enough. I've been looking on and off for a good reasonably priced hood steamer for some time, but the reviews have been sketchy. Have you had this Red Pro for a while?
Windsingerful I've only had it for a few months. I haven't had any problems with it. I follow the directions provided to take care of it - use distilled water and empty the water out of the hood after each use.
Windsingerful Thank you 💛💛💛
Windsingerful and I only use it for the recommended amount of time - if you use the "max" amount of water that turns out to be 15-20 minutes.
May give it a go! Like to fit my whole head in for the overall effect, which I can't get with the hand steamer! Thanks!
instead of chamomile and lavender, what can I use as an alternative?
Why am I so relaxed right now😀
Great video..do u leave in the tea rinse?
Bernice St.rose thank you :) yes I do; steam with the rinse soaked in my locs - the steaming opens the hair and scalp follicles to allow the rinse to penetrate
Great I have to try this.
mmmmmm i want that steamer!!!!!😍
Yes, where did you buy your steam dryer. Your step-by-step tutorials are excellent. Where did you by the herbs? Thank you, Glynis from Virginia
I need that steamer! ❤️
Can you make tea and than pour the tea into the steamer
Hi, I checked the comments and I didn't see how often you steam your hair. Please let me know. Thanks!
Charmaine Diallo no prob, I steam every 2-4 weeks
Do you do this after every wash?
When you're steaming your locs, could you add an essential oil to the steamer??
Only use water in your steamer. You will clog it otherwise. I only use distilled water
Hi I was wondering if you ever interlock your locs? or just retwist? I tried retwisting method but it just unravels
I loved this video and it made me stock up on my teas again to condition my hair! Have you ever tried the Marshmallow root tea leaves in your herbal tea rinse? It's a really good conditioner. I tried it , and thought it was a nice addition.
Can this be used on natural hair as well or is this only for locs?
go loc crush I have suffered with SD for years and have started doing this monthly on starter locs. not if I rinse it out after or not
No you don’t rinse it out it’s a herbal tea which is just infused water. If you rinse it away your hair will absorb less of it.
very nice video
Can I use this tea rinse on my starter locs ?
Can I use rose powder instead
Where am I going to find these herbs ?
You should cover your herbal tea when while it infuse ; by doing that you will keep the essential oils also (but maybe you didn't just for the video) :)
okay this video alone. and i am subscribe. lolh. omg. how long is your hair sista. and your is soooooo thick. love it.
chocolate lady thank you so much 💛 my hair is about hip length :)
You put that in after a fresh wash? I don't think your shampoo works all that well. I want to try this though. It looks super relaxing. Thanks for the tutorial! Subbing! :)
How would you know how her shampoo works?😂
@@LisePlansandJournals I posted that comment 7 years ago. I don't even remember what this is about.
Can you put the tea in the steamer?
Breanda Crump same question I had! I don't see why not. But make sure it's filtered so you won't ruin your steamer. Ijs
Do you rinse this out òr leave it in?
Unicorn Barf leave it in :)
Nice.
Can I be Next. :)
Thanks for Sharing.
I am going to try this.
Super. 🥰 From India
beautiful
I just took my braids down...and just brought all the supplies to do this herbal tea steam treatment...should I wash my hair before or after the steam treatment?
Jarvaus Henderson you should wash your hair first :)
So what's the herbs
Did you rinse the tea out? Or is ok to leave in?
TheDeandrea97 you leave it in
Beautiful
Great video! I make DIY too on my channel.
shame that you 9nly steam your roots and scalp when your ends would benefit so much from steaming as well .
I mean when I steam I put my hair up inside and ALL my hair and scalp benefit
Prisca Empowering that's great that all of your hair can fit in the steamer. Mine is too thick and full to. So my hair reaps the benefits of steaming while I shower 💛
