Someone like Arathi ji should be made a national figure. I have read so many of her incredible columns in Kannada news daily, Vijaya Karnataka, and have been mesmerized by her erudition, knowledge of Sanatana Samskriti, and our Itihasa, absolutely delightful command of Kannada language... list is endless.
What bothers me is that people who claim to be part of Indic wing, guys like Abhijit Iyer Mitra or Kushal Mehra, get all the attention as SM influencers. Our young minds get exposed to their vitriolic against Brahmins and the "evils" of caste system constantly. It is one thing such incendiary Brahmin-hatred coming from Leftists, which probably can be filtered away by our Hindu youth, but it's another when this nonsense gets thrust down their throat by the so-called "defenders of dharma."
I have always maintained that lot of bad things happened in our society as ossification of jati paddhati and distortion of Varnaashrama dharma happened with the decline of Bharat due to various historical reasons. Every society goes through these phases. Nothing stays the same. But our society was lot more fluid and ergodic. No one was chained to a place or a group in perpetuity. Communities rose in wealth and status and then failed, got pushed into the periphery and then disappeared due to changes happening in society on economic, political or cultural fronts. Islamic invasion and European colonization further threw our society into a highly defensive mode and Hindu society weakened considerably during these times. It's during such cataclysmic times, the "good" in the society becomes dormant. it's never lost, and the bad practices come to surface.
This is why we need people with right knowledge to explain this. I always listened to Sri Bannanje Govinda Acharaya ji for all my clarifications on these questions. Our young people need "Aaptas" whom they can trust to give a true picture. And Aarathi ji is one of those Aaptas. I truly wish her wisdom falls into the ears of Hindus across the land.

      Progress is .. 🙄
      90-100% of the women are
      being treated as Commodity
Now a days that our so called
      Intellectual minds couldn't find
      & Don't agree .. 👍
But pointing out the ancient system on a 0.1% systems
      Problem and Exaggerating it
In to large & with the lengthy
      Discussion s ..
The problem is not only with
The system .. from where to
      Where the women are really
      Transformed .. in terms of
Taking Different descions , Freedom, Authoritative , supremacy & her impact
Whether it is really a Good
Or Bad .. Honestly must be
Discussed & Assessed on different tables ..
      Without Discrimination..
Not just in Gender .. but in the
      Discussion s itself too ..
      I think they don't take place ..
      In present days World ..
      Probably can expect in future
      Some 2030 or 2040 .. to talk
About in the sense .. why not ...

Debadasis were highly influential temple girls. Who were important for temple ceremonies imparting education and management of temples.... as they received huge sums of alms and exercised influence some of the local socially and economically deprived families also started turning their daughters into dedasis but they had no official status and no role inside temples. They simply stood as beggers outside the temple received alms and engaged in all sorts of activities that they could.
On the other hand the Church in Europe owned and maintained brothels and prostitutes. Church made a handsome amount of money from prostitution so they looked at it from the same perspective they purposefully failed to distinguish between the true devadasis and the abondoned female offsprings of poor families in temple vicinity ...!!

It is very sorrowful state that devadasis are termed as call girls. They were the torch bearers of our classical music, dance and dance dramas. They are also well versed in shastras puranas and highly educated. They just become a second wife to some highly positioned men for children who continue their art and culture. The great carnatic classical singers are from devadasi comminity. Its the great deavadasi Smt Bangalore Nagaratnamma who built temple for Sri Tyagataja. What the lady said is hundred percent correct. Balasraswathi is the great Bharatha natyam dancer.

@PranaStories, You might want to invite the menstrual health scholar Sinu Joseph ji who has studied menstruation in the ayurveda and Tantra context and explains beautifully why the recommendation to avoid temples during those days exists. It is nothing to do with impurity. That’s a new age myth. It is (quite coincidentally!) to do with ‘prana’ and like Dr.Arthi ji said ‘temporary rest’.

Isn't it obnoxious how discrimination gets a makeover as if British did and how about present Governments? The Devadasi, Jogini, and Basavi systems were outlawed because of their blatant exploitation, yet here we are, watching as the same exploitation is repackaged and sold as tradition and as if they had rights. Let's not forget the Namboodiri and Sambandham practices-because what better way to honor the past than to con women into a lifetime of suffering and call it culture? Bravo to those who twist facts into a fantasy of heritage while generations and communities were destroyed. They should be remembered for their suffering first . Blame everything on Invaders as against apologizing together and cleaning up and moving on.

I would recommend you to read Sinu Joseph’s book “ Rtu vidhya, menstrual practices of India” and it will give you a very different picture. Sinu Joseph had written a book on Sabarimala also. I have greatest of respect for you both. The energy emitting from women during their periods is phenomenal and the positive energy from the temple will affect the women, hence the restrictions. The practice of women not allowed to cook also is about this energy.

The funny thing is that these people keep on talking about ancient a lot, and rarely put it in practice any of these. It is time to consider and learn it as history and move on. A lot of boys cook now a days and is better than girls. Those who don't share domestic work they are spoiled either by their wives or mothers/sisters. So who are you blaming here? But, now a days a lot of women encourage their boys to learn/share domestic affairs, because they themselves know the pain.

Yes, mostly they were. If you sugarcoat it, that's also okay-who cares! There were harems consisting of wives, concubines, female and eunuch officials, bodyguards, and servants. But only the concubines were for sexual pleasure. Similarly, in the case of Devadasis staying at temples, there were various kinds and classes. Apart from a few from upper backgrounds who acted as priests, most of the Devadasis were engaged, often forced, in sexual activities with multiple people...

You were right thing when you mentioned that spirituality is the connection of the soul/spirit with the Divine.
Being that it is the soul and not the body which connects with the Divine, it is the purity of your intentions when you visit a temple and not whether a woman is having her periods or not which is important.
Forbidding women from visiting temples during periods is part of karmakand - rituals connected with the external body.
The Divine is interested in what u r within and what you feel within urself, not the state of your body.
Ur intention is more imp than ur body.

Madam you have given an excellent explanation on various subjects regarding our womenfolk with conviction. One comment with participation during menstrual period is usually you yourself have told about fainting college mates. Similarly as the ladies are weak at that time, it's better not to recite sthothram or Bajan. And even the out-put in IT or lecture is a strain. Syllables pronunciation also may need strength which is not possible during the bleeding , however brave front one may put up. If attendance is important in job , concern by colleagues can be a part of our reformation Sanathana according to the changed situation. Haven't ladies' dates been given priority before planning a puja or function. Similarly let ladies not be shy to voice their discomfort and get some comfort from friends and colleagues in a work place. The isolation at olden days from spiritual program was mainly due to the condition of the body. It's just a quarantine during weakness. Nothing against spirituality.

I would also like to add that it is a must for men to cook and serve the lady in dispensary, yes because she will be getting rejuvenation later so rest is the lady's medicine. And for the man of the higher caste he can conceal the resting wife or sister, in a sort of cubicle with plastic curtains in her own restricted space, for his achara s sake, if need be, then take a bath and do his Gayathri or cook for himself in his space. Instead I have noticed down south., the men chasing their ladies to their mothers home close by or make her sit on the doorstep where sanitary workers come in and go, till night, before she could lie down. The man thinks twice before offering her water too. She will be told to go to street taps. Such inhuman treatment has made women rebellious. Taken the freedom also is their own disaster. It's this depressed state the unconscious mind suffers. And hence mastectomy, vaginal cancer and cancer of other types, knee replacement, disc problem xtra.... especially riding the bike during periods cause excess bleeding leading to problems during menopause receding stages.
Hope women will become sensible in this regard and men take more care and concern in their grahasasthra darma. Love, care and concern is the main issue to understand this matter. And get the blessings of Sri Lalita Ambika 🙏
