I already know how to carve (albeit not very tightly) and I wanted to learn how to kickturn.. thanks so much for this video! It'll help me a lot when I go out to skate tomorrow :)
I did some very in depth kick turn videos where I was helping a friend work on their backside kickturns on transition. You might want to look at the nerdy coaching videos on the channel:). Have fun out there!
This is a nice tutorial. Although I have my basics down, I'll definitely recommend this series to anybody wanting to learn how to skateboard. Great explanations & examples :D Question - what are those wheels you are using? They seem to handle that gravel well, and don't slip like cruisers wheels.
Bones 58's with a mid hard durometer. Going a little larger on the wheel size and a little harder on the durometer will help with rough concrete. Down side is you have to rough them up before you skate at a really slick skatepark sop you get better grip.
Wow thanks! The kickturn explanation is great! I have problems because my muscle memory is geared for snowboarding and the shoulders always mess me up 😭😭😭 this is so helpful most skater guys can’t explain this stuff to me
Glad this helped! We did some coaching sessions on kickturns early on they are lengthy I'll warn you but theres some great info in there. The skateboard is so less forgiving than the snowboard but as you get better at skating your snowboarding will improve too!

hi this is a very helpful video thank you for this !!! i have a question for the tictac, for some reason i dont move and sometimes move back a bit. any tips ? thank u !
Not uncommon to experience this when learning. First send me some video and I will analyze it and give you specific feedback. When you practice next its critical to remember that you must tip your whole body over the edge you want to turn toward. Al most to the point that it feels like you will have to step off your board. At that moment just before you would fall you lift the nose for the kick turn. after you land shift your body over the opposing edge again to the point that you feel like you're falling over the edge then kick turn. If you don't shift the body far enough you wont create momentum to help you move forward. Also make sure you're learning this on truly flat terrain and it's ok to give yourself a tiny push forward so you're rolling a little to help. Have fun!
@@unitedstatesskateboardeduc5205 thank you for replying ill try to send a video asap !! ill also keep these tips in mind when i can go out again ^____^ thank you

Hi! I've been skating for 4 weeks and observing my feet during carving. I've noticed that when carving toeside I tend to put more weight on my back foot, and when carving heelside, my front foot gets to control the board more. Is that normal? Thanks!
Nothing abnormal about weight shift. It has a lot to do with how you're standing on the board. If you're upper body rotates that can cause some weight shift. Usually as your shoulders and hips rotate to face forward you will feel weight shift back. Regardless if you get weight over the front wheels your board will carve harder. It's important to work pressure from the front foot to the back foot. Play around with that sensation a bit and see if you get anything new out of that.
is that normal that when i try to do tic tac, i can turn but my board doesnt move forwards? i don't know how to move forwards do you have any tips ? Anyway great video!!
I have a video that dives deeper into generating momentum in your tic tacs. Check this out... ruclips.net/video/OvCFScWKoXI/видео.html Couple quick tips learn either on flat or super gentle slope. If you're on true flat area give yourself a little push before you start your tic tacs. The key is to shift your body over the board and feel the board tip and carve before you try to pick up and kick turn. Most beginners try to kick turn back and forth from the center of the board. You have to be committed toward one edge then kick turn. Cross all the way over the board toward the new edge until you feel it tip and carve a little then kick turn. Repeat... Hope this helps! You can always send me a video if you'd like me to break down what you're working on and share your learning with others who are going through the same things.
@@unitedstatesskateboardeduc5205 thank you so much for responding!! I understand so much more now! I will keep practicing and see how it goes, thank you!
When you kick turn you are keeping weight on the back foot through the entire move. You only lift the front foot after you have rotated your shoulders and remember its just a little lift.
Its a good idea to stand there if you're trying to do a maneuver that requires lifting the nose of the board off the ground like a kick turn or tic tac. For cruising it's ok to shift your foot down off the tail or even between the trucks. Different foot position creates different feel and can support some pretty creative outcomes. That said I spend probably 90% or more of my time on a skateboard with my back foot up on the tail above the bend or crease. For beginners I would recommend learning this position as the starting or goto foot position. Then use the skills taught in this video (ruclips.net/video/b3VvT4o29SM/видео.html) to practice adjusting the foot position and develop more options when just rolling around.
If you're falling back when you kickturn it has a lot to do with how you're lifting the nose. If you are lifting your lead shoulder up and tipping your spine too far back toward your tail as you turn that can be a pretty common cause. Try keeping your lead shoulder down as lift your lead knee up to get the nose up. Only shift your weight back toward your back foot a little as you do this. That should help keep you on your feet as you rotate your shoulders through the kickturn...
Nice video! I have a question. I'm trying to find out the name of this basic trick. Suppose you do a 180 degree kickturn while moving forward. So you spin the board 180. So you don't really turn direction, you just end up with tail in front and you're still moving forward (your forward momentum from before the spin keeps you moving forward). Is there a name for this trick? Is it just a 180 kickturn? Thanks.
Are you saying that the skater is pivoting around the tail while rolling forward or that they are pivoting around the nose? Are the wheels sliding or getting off the ground in the pivot or do they just continue to roll clean? Important questions to help define the trick...
@@unitedstatesskateboardeduc5205 The skateboard rolls forward in a regular stance (tail in back, nose in front), and then does one pivot. The pivot is off the tail not the nose. The front wheels get off the ground. The backwheels stay on the ground. The skateboard spins 180 degrees quickly. Then you drop the front wheels (which are now in the back) back to the ground. So you end up in a final state of moving in the same direction but facing the opposite direction.
usually just feet over the bolts is the safest option. once you're comfortable with that you could try putting your back foot closer to the tail for kickturns etc.
I like what HeyItsChase said Stay away from having your back foot way back toward the end of the tail. I'll add on that if you're only cruising forward you'll likely have better feel if you put your back foot in the crease of the tail and your front foot right on top of the front four bolts. The crease is where the tail starts to bend up. Place your back foot relatively straight across the board and then angle your front foot slightly forward. With your back foot position shifted slightly behind the back wheels you're way less likely to over pressure the front wheels and experience a wheel stopper...
