So, I end up having to split the 808 melody into 2 separate tracks, one track with the polarity flipped, the other not. And this is both before and after processing… Why is this?

He's using soothe to sidechain the kick to the 808, but he's Sidechaining the low frequencies, so you can use a parametric eq2 and peak controller to sidechain the lows of the 808 to the kick
