Thank you! I definitely learned something, I wanted to see how you used compression, I been using fruity balance instead and I never paid attention to the wave forms like you showed. I’ll start doin that
Please do a part 2, very useful tricks indeed. Sidechaining in my mixes always feels like I have to sacrifice either the kick or 808, and it becomes very hard when the 808 changes pitch and the kick doesn't. I always find myself with at least one note in the 808 pattern sounding off with a kick, to the point where I'll usually just remove the kick and have 808 only for those notes. Now I usually just "sidechain" some frequencies where I see the most clashing (Neutron EQ shows this well), but the results are still not ideal.
I started to use kickstart 2 for this where you can select which frequency range you want to sidechain which is so much better than just ducking the full volume of the 808
@@prodsyrenjust put a fruity peak controller on your kick, then put a Parametric eq 2 on your 808, and then right click one of the frequency faders, and link to controller, when the window pops up with a text pop down menu, select inverted, then click accept.
I will definitely grab up that course you have, (moneys tight ATM) sometime in the inevitable future; I thought, in all my infinite wisdom & intellectualism (lol) id be more knowledgeable on this stuff, at this junction in my musical journey, but this is truly an art, but even moreso, a SCIENCE , and my ego isnt as such that i can't admit i need some schooling.. Thanks for a cool vidoe BWB
Honestly i had this problem i spent weeks figuring it out. N i found that i wasnt using the Right. It has to be JUST right as far as waveform at least for me. And eq the low end alot of ppl eq the kick in the bass put 808 in bass range n kick to nigh to mid . Works for me dont hog the frequency space
My issue is not knowing which ones are going to boom like crazy in the car, and which ones end up surprising me by sounding dead in the car. There's this 808 I use often and even though in my flat response Sony MDRV06 headphones it sounds tamed, sounds normal, isn't booming too crazy or nothing, as soon as I go play the song out in my car the 808 is hitting so god damn hard that it literally seems like my game plan was to overly boom out the mix due to the low end! And then there's other 808's that sound like they are hitting way too heavy in my headphones, but will surprisingly sound good in the car. I can mix everything pretty solid except for the low end! The low end be playing games with my head!
thnks bro much love, but im asking if its true when i rout the kick in the mixer to the 808 bus i feel like it creats a side chain and i can control how hard the kick to the 808 with that knob under .
Honestly i feel like 99% of people struggle to get their kicks right in the first place.. All this phase alignment is important if kick and base play tougether but i really believe the biggest issue for most people is that they dont get a nice kick or they use samples, so they dont understand the kick, which is of corse very crucial to have a good base...
If you use a clipper on your drum bus, is it bad to also push your mix into a clipper on the master? Cuz I find when I clip my drum bus I can get it sounding good on its own. But the second I use a compressor and clipper on the master it’s like it loses all of its punch, and I don’t push it into a clipper hard at all.
I think the same logic would apply, find the point where the waves are interfering/masking each other and clip at that spot. Though probably the simplest solution is to use some kind of envelope to make sure the kick doesn't overstay its punch with the 808.
Why not just sidechain and use the Comp section of FL Limiter to duck the 808 whenever the kick hits? It allows you to customize the duck (release time, volume, etc) considering some people require stock plugins and takes a fraction of the time. The reddit question asked how to fix kick and 808 clashing and you went on a rant about phase. I understood what you were showing, but keep it simple.
I think sidechaining is misunderstood. Yes, it can solve two clashing sounds but I don’t believe that’s always the solution. I believe sounds should blend, in this video, I show how to blend.
I don't do any of that. That's to complicated. I use wave lab, and what I do is I take a kick and I'll highlight some of the kick part at the end and then I'll take the 808 and blend it that way. When you right click in wave lab there's an option for pasting whatever you copied, that's what I do, I paste. If you go up to editor in wave lab there's an option for mix paste, this I don't do. It doesn't sound right to me. My kick and 808's mixed sound find to me.
Bro i learned a lot. Thanks. You definitely need to do more of these.
Definitely we want part 2 it would be a huge help to us 🤗 btw really thanks for this video
Great tutorial! You can zoom in more in playlist by increasing timebase number (options -> project general settings)
Some knowledge & great gems spilled here instead the urban myths !!! Thank you !!!
Haven’t seen a video from the goat in years 🐐
busy works making it easy 💣💥
This helped so much! Thanks!

This is a really great tutorial
First off thanks my brother for all your hard work and tutorials, can you please do another video on this for Ableton?

@@prodsyrensurely it’s a lot better to have the exact shape of the waveform controlling the volume rather than an automated timing
Use kick 2 vst from Nick Homero with side chain funcion. You gonna fix.this.
Good stuff! Subbed!
Up mi gee given thanks mi general
great video

1000th like ! Great informative video
great video.
No need to overthink it get a Spinz a wheezy kick, turn the velocity up, put them in mono and soft clipper on the master…simple

Interesting 😎
@@busyworksbeats Love your videos, Keep up everything!😎
Doing this rn lmao
I need to just buy some 808's that are already mixed to perfection. Paying top dollar! And they must all be set for middle C!
How do you deal with mixing 808 note changes? I find that my 808 and kick no longer go together once the 808 goes into different notes

does a kick and bass is the same procedure?
How to mix zaytoven 808 with kikck please ☹️

you turn the whole 808 down in volume and not just the low frequencies if you do this.

@@busyworksbeats so how would one translate a blending sound to vocals onna beat cause dats my main thing I’m working on rn
Im beginner only, I as understand it Kick should be stronger than 808? because kick is positive and 808 is negative?
Am i right?
Kick loudest in the mix then 808 and everything else underneath with soft clipper on the master and let it ripppppppppp
pt 2
some beats or 808s dont need a kick, and if you insist. sidechain
i feel like bro is the opposite of flighreacts
