I had a bookstagram for years, but I have basically stopped posting there. I felt like it is geared even more towards short content and snappy hot takes. I enjoy longer discussion about books, which is why I have really enjoyed discussions on booktube. Of course I enjoy some snappy hot takes now and then, but I want to balance it with longer, nuanced discussions
What you said about TikTok/reels and instagram captions being too limiting to have a critical discussion is exactly why I stopped posting on there. I had a pretty big following on there but felt like I was just making humorous reels and not really sharing my thoughts anymore. That’s also why I made a booktube in the end.
Thanks for sharing your experience! The humorous reels and quick recommendations/reviews can be fun sometimes, but it’s starting to feel very surface-level, and like I keep seeing the same books over and over. I’m enjoying the depth of booktube so much more!
So interesting hearing your thoughts on the algorithm! I’ve consciously given up caring too much snd I’m now just doing what I like. There was a time when I cared deeply. Nothing grows now ever so that has freed me up from chasing growth. Snd I’m SO glad I didn’t ever get sucked into turning content into an unofficial ad to get brand attention!!!
I think your approach is the best way to go! There’s definitely a freedom in accepting the app’s limitations and letting yourself enjoy the community and creation process 😊. It’s the chasing that’s so exhausting!
I gave up social media a year and a half ago and honest to god it's the best decision I ever made. As a writer, it kind of sucks to have no way to promote my work but it's just not worth the stress it causes.
I’m glad giving up social media has been a relief for you! I can absolutely see why. I feel similarly though as a writer, like I should build platforms now to promote my work later. But you’re right, that much stress isn’t worthwhile.
the microphone sounds better because its designed to go in the direction of your mouth, when you put it in your blouse its sideways. if you find a way to place it correctly should sound better (look for cardiod microphone placement)
My Instagram is private and I pretty much only lurk, but it does feel like everything is an ad and it’s hard to find small, authentic creators. I say get off of it and focus on what’s feeling good! Very cute eyeshadow btw 🩵
Thank you very much! 😄 Unfortunately I think the way everyone needs to act like an influencer is what’s making it hard to find more genuine, “real” pages.
Do you have any experience with bookstagram or booktok? What are your thoughts on the state of short-form content? I’d love to hear! 😊

The 'result' should be personal enjoyment. Don't seek validation from strangers' likes.
