Thanks Luke for sharing my story. While writing it I didn't even think about the possibility that you may want to make it public. For me it was a bit of a therapy. Writing it helped me to get better from what I had suffered only 1 week ago. Also it was my genuine desire of just saying "thank you". These days some of my friends have listened to the episode and they were shocked when they realized how much I suffered. I think that when I told them (while having a beer) it didn't sound that bad... Maybe I didn't tell them the rougher parts. Thanks!!

Hello. I'm from Ukraine. We live in a safe region. We do not have hostilities, but missiles are aimed at the energy infrastructure. In recent weeks, there is often no light for four hours several times a day. Power engineers are offloading electricity consumption. Then there is no Internet either. I download your videos when there is light and watch them when it goes out Your videos are made in a very high-quality and understandable manner, although my level of English is not very high. It was my hobby in the past, and now, during the war, it came back to fill my brain with something good and interesting and to get out of this stress and unreality of events. Thank you very much for your work.

Luke, my name is Marianna Ho. I now live in Belgium with my family. Originally, I live in Hong Kong. My husband and I visited my son and his family
in Belgium 3 years ago. Due to the pandemic we stayed here and finally get our residency. I started listening to your Podcast about 6 months ago. I realise the more I listen to your program the more I love it as it covered a wide range of knowledge which I find it very interesting.
Most important is you invite guest speakers to talk in your Podcast like your father and they are very good and funny. Thanks again your program not only helps us to improve our English but open up our knowledge as well,

Hello Luke. I live in Canada. I recently found your RUclips page and since then I listen to it everyday while going to work and coming back, even on my breaks. The amazing thing about your work is that It never gets boring , because of the way you narrate and the choice of stories. I enjoy each and every story. Thank you for the great great work. I’m so glad I found you. T❤

Oh, you live in Canada? I have always had the doubt of what kind of English is spoken there, I suppose it's similar to the american but maybe the use of French changes it, I don't know.
I will travel to Canada for a cultural exchange next year, it is amusing to think that people in different countries listen to the same thing thanks to LIP.

Your podcast is very helpful for English learners like me
I really enjoy listening your podcast on your RUclips channel and story time is the best part of your channel
I have just heard the story you shared today
It’s really very compelling and remind eme of my daughter’s surgery. She used to wear braces , after sometime when her dentist realised that her braces are not working properly
They did an ex-ray of hee mouth and decided to do the surgery and move her jaw by operation and fix it with screws
It all went well and my daughter’s jaws was adjusted perfectly after the surgery
You are a very dedicated teacher and I wish if you would be my English teacher then I would be able to learn English faster and quicker
I will be very grateful if you could add more stories.
In my opinion learning English through stories and from teacher like you will be more helpful for all the English learners like me

Hi Luke. Thanks from Ukraine. Listening for the stories on your podcast gives me a short moment of going from reality just to normal, carefree life. Your podcast really helps to keep mentally. Reality of our country since russian invasia is like a nightmare. We witnessed awful atrocites and are full of pain. You can't wake up, no matter how to try, the only option is to study how to live with it.
Wishing you the peaceful sky over your head, keep on doing your job 🙌

Hello, Luke! Thank you so much for your podcast, for those brilliant topics you touch upon! I started watching you quite recently while getting ready for one of the English classes. I've been teaching English at Russian state schools for nearly 6 years. The problem is that we don't get paid well at state schools, and I'm suffering the impostor syndrome as I feel that I'm not a born teacher lacking talent, though I'm a 1st category teacher. Your podcast helps me to relax and feel I'm not alone anyway as a teacher.
P.S. I've been to the UK in 2000, being only 16, that was a great experience. I studied at Lancs, Accrington.

    Hya Luke,
if you are interested, I could enlighten you with a bit of medical background.
Sleep apnea occurs if the muscles in your throat are not able to keep your airway open during sleep, especially if you are lying on your back.
So usually the surgical solution / therapy is to break the upper jaw and re-position it a bit further in the front. Usually only some millimeters.
btw: The palate is exactly what you think it is. It's the top part of your upper jaw.
For this operation is in a very sensitive area of your body (i.e. the head), it has to be done in general anesthesia.
Listening to Inakis story one might suspect, that he had the induction of his "artificial coma" with a drug called Ketamine. This is a very powerful painkiller / narcotic with the side effect of nightmares, paranoia or hallucinations especially when the effect subsides and the patient comes round. Therefore the anaesthesist usually combines Ketamine with a sedative such as Midazolam or any other benzodiazepine. Maybe... just maybe... Inaki got not enough sedative during his operation to avoid these effects.
Just speculating here but to me it seems a very likely explanation.
Being a paramedic and nurse I witnessed this "complication" several times when there was not enough sedative.

I don’t know why while I had been depressing RUclips just recommended this episode to me exactly in time❤I was thinking about what a huge number of lost in my life varying from money to opportunities I just let go for whatever reason, what a shame I have been living aimlessly without any specific success in any way,so many worries ,anxieties ,disappointments and angers filled my mind, which made me feel overwhelmed and desperate! How could I escape from all the stress and messes? I ask myself tons of questions repeatedly …..I had tried to convince myself that I had been overthinking, life always has a way out, which seemed even make things worse other than enabled me to get strengths to move on!I had nearly known I would figure out a way when I realized that keeping learning English would help me to attain my dreams which however had been pretty vague,at least it had been a bunch of light that shed in my life ,though I was not confident in my English.so I opened RUclips, this episode showed up in the first place, the title of which intrigued me a lot ,to be frank.meanwhile the story turned to be such a coincidence that I was in low mood too!❤
It make me believe that there are some strange things or power that exist in some way always prepared to help you ❤❤❤
Today’s recommendation is a precious gift In return for my struggling learning English ❤❤❤
Thank both of you teacher Luke and the friend who shared his personal experience.
I hope I would be more fluent in English like him,There is a long way to go for me!

    Dear Luke
This is also a survival story because my husband luckily survived 22 surgeries 10 years ago. I would have been fortunate to have your podcast back then, as I was also going through a difficult time. We are very thankful for what our medical system can provide, even if the doctors don't have much time to talk to you due to the extensive documentation they have to do. My husband spent a long time in the hospital, and because he had so many anesthetics, one of the anesthesiologists came to see him, telling him that he wanted to meet the man who had been on the operating table so many times. We learned that paranoid thoughts often occur after longer surgeries. Once, my husband cried in the recovery room, convinced he had to go to jail because he believed he had embezzled a large amount of money (which was not true, as we are not bankers but brave teachers). Another time, he was convinced he was in a Greek hospital, accusing me of bringing him to a place, where nobody was taking care of him. I don't want to offend anyone from Greece. Greece was probably on his mind because there were a lot of articles about Greece and the EU in the newspapers at the time.
Luke, you have a great talent for presenting content in such a way that I look forward to a new (or old) episode every day. It's a brilliant mix of information, food for thought, humour and entertainment through exciting stories and conversations with interesting guests. A thousand thanks !!!

    Hey Luke,
The nightmare described in the story looks like a the side effect of anesthesia. Some medication can provoke hallucinations , lasting day or two afterwards. It usually happens when cheep or old-generation drugs are using during prolonged surgeries. The guy just got unfortunate to experience that. It's amazing that your voice and nice manner to talk comforted the patient and diminished the hurmful action of the drug. Thanks for sharing this compelling story.
