I'm so grateful to have finally discovered this band. They're basically all I want to listen to now. And this video is gorgeous.
I'm 53 and just now getting sparks. I'm amazed at there brilliance
I’m now 62. I found them in 1972 at age 13 .My favorites are the first 5 albums. Definitely have their own special style. Still listening today ❤️🙏
@@iansane3286 I listen to Kimono My House and Propaganda over and over. They are timeless masterpieces. Also love the first two; I often play "Fletcher Honorama" as I drift off to sleep. The marvel is that I think I love their last four or five albums most of all. I can't think of a single group or artist who can boast such durable creativity over a long career, not even Sir Paul!
@@aaronzook9540 they have certainly given us an amazing body of work which we can all pick and choose favorites and that even early Sparks have indeed weathered time and are still relevant to those that have an almost 50 history of listening to their unique sound. I’m so happy for Ron and Russell to have had an amazing year and they deserve it! I have tickets for April 2022 here in Toronto. The last time I saw them live was 1976. Patti Smith opened and it was an amazing gig for this then 17 year old.
@@stephenl9473 same. But I'm 51.
I had the great honour of interviewing Ron and Russell many years ago - charming, quietly spoken and humble, the brothers are legends of the music industry....
Must have been fantastic 😊
Счастливчик. 👍🙂
I’m soooo jealous
This isn't just a beautiful piece of music. It is equally a stunningly composed track by Sparks.
They are that rare breed of musicians / composers.
Quite remarkable.
They are ARTISTS! Painting with tones, notes and Russell's voice, creating piecies in the same class as Michelangelo! 💖
This is a great song for a duo that has been in the business for close to fifty years, The Brothers Mael are awesome.
Hell. Fuckin. Yes.
AGREE !
Agreed, Tim Scott. Tim Scott also the name of a good eighties singer, the song "Swear".
This a great song for anyone, I guess.
Yep, agree and, as a pedant concerning appropriate use of language, agree with the word awesome too - it is in my opinion used entirely appropriately here.
Spectacular. There really isn't any other word for it, and this is not hyperbole. They have absolutely EVERY right to be this good at this stage in their career. A furious pop stomper drenched in wit, melancholy and an insight on the world at large that most bands could only dream of. Because they are not SPARKS.
25 albums, together musically for over fifty years. Inspired many new groups. Legends in their own right. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame why aren’t these in there. Many more years of music from Ron and Russell.
Screw the Hall. It's a joke.
Forever Sparks
The Video: Wow! The Song: Wow! Thumbs up if you love Sparks! I've been a fan since 1974.
I first randomly came across the "I Married Myself" video on youtube in 2009, I've been a fan ever since. Pretty interesting band.
The 12th of September, Berlin, Columbia Theater. DE-FI-NI-TE-LY!
it stiks in the mind from its very first time!!!ok?
Been a fan since I saw them performing "get in the swing" on TOTP2 circa 2000. I'm also a big fan of your channel sir!
Me too!! A fan since 1974 - I gave up my 4th row center tickets because I couldn’t get off work back in 1975. I am going to get to see them tonight with my brother at the El Rey theatre!! I am so excited!!
This is not good, this is fantastic! Musically and visually.
BINGO.👍👍👍
Masterpiece ❤
rock and Roll Hall of Fame..Wake eee wakeee Helloooo Put them in already!!
I am French, and I love so much the Sparks. This song is so magnificient ! they are great !! I'm happy to learn that they will be officially in Cannes with the musical film directed by Leos Carx, which will be released on July 6th; and happy also that a documentary is dedicated to them: release in theaters on July 28th.
Let's all go there! ! since the time they deserve to be even more known, recognized
Sparks are still head and shoulders above the rest. Fabulous.
This really should top the charts the world over as there is absolutely nobody out there making music this good ? Stunning video as well......
They aren't pretty enough, quality music is a distant second consideration in the minds of recording company suits these day
@@terrythekittie I think Ron Mael is pretty lush, especially with that sexy scowl he has. ;-)
That video is similar to some of Steven Wilsons videos ( if anyone is familiar with them) like the raven that refused to sing, Drive home. I wonder if they’ve used the same video director or something?
I totally agree with you nothing more to add.
Ioftenreplytoidiots22 totally agree. Thought the same even when I saw the thumbnail. Would be shocked if it is not same
It's a heartwarming song
For the easily moved
The effect is all wrong
Plain to see I'm not moved
As I stand in the light
Of a shop that is closed
God, I'd love me a fight
There's no poem just prose
Edith Piaf said it better than me
"Je ne regrette rien"
Pretty song, but not intended for me
Time to put some muzak on
There were no smoky dives
Few amours, fous or not
There were no petty crimes
Foreign substances bought
There were no midnight drives
With a crime boss's wife
Need a sentence at most
In assessing my life
Edith Piaf said it better than me
"Je ne regrette rien"
Pretty song, but not intended for me
Time to put some muzak on
Drunken and short-lived flings
Montparnasse lights
Holding a hand of kings
My hunch was right
When's that night?
Edith Piaf said it better than me
"Je ne regrette rien"
Pretty song, but not intended for me
Time to put some muzak on
Live fast and die young
Live fast and die young
Live fast and die young
Too late for that
Too late for that
Live fast and die young
Live fast and die young
Live fast and die young
Too late for that
Too late for that
Think of one single night
One so strong, you're aflame
Well, I'm sorry, time's up
Sorry, nothing will change
Edith Piaf said it better than me
"Je ne regrette rien"
Pretty song, but not intended for me
Time to put some muzak on
Edith Piaf said it better
Life would certainly be much more dull without the genius of SPARKS!!
j adore j ai decouvert cette chanson sur radio caroline en rentrant du boulot. une belle oeuvre musicale
After half a century, these guys still come up with creative, innovative music (and equally compelling visual accompaniment). Kudos, Ron and Russell. I'm so happy I've had the chance to experience you live. Just don't let the success of the latest album get to your heads, eh?
Congratulations that last sentence was as laconically witty as a Sparks lyric!
They didn't, 'A Steady Drip Drip Drip' is absolutely awesome 💖 💖 💖 💖 💖
The music, the lyrics and the visuals. We really don't deserve these guys .... when I listen to them I feel like I don't have a care in the world (even now with all that is going on in the world).
IMO, one of the best songs they have ever written.
I've known of Sparks for years but am only just starting to get them thanks to watching The Sparks Brothers documentary. There's real genius here.
Live fast and die young
Life fast and die young
Life fast and die young
Too late for that
Too late for that
Like all their old fans..
🤷
Quel groupe intemporel sachant se renouveler en permanence !Respect messieurs .
The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame needs to see if they can be admitted to Sparks...
Sparks are the best Electro pop group ever !!!
I went to the cinema to see the wonderful documentary.... Brilliant insight into the brothers early life and how they got into making Amazing music..
I love this beautiful song. Genius Ron & Russell. Thank you. ❤
These boys really are on another level.
Another genius piece from the superbly talented Ron and Russell.
You are unique guys and are very loved and appreciated in the UK.
Don't ever retire !
very much appreciated here!!
SPARKS just keep on raising the bar" no other band will ever come near
There’s no one remotely close to replicating them. Living proof that age is just a number... 🎶😎
Sparks songs are true gems.
One of the best songs of all time.. there songs r so different..amazing...keep going..sparks.....
How am I only hearing this now. Absolutely brilliant 😀.
This is a thought provoking video and a tune I'd not heard previously. Fantastic. Stock Sparks. These guys should have far greater recognition than then currently do.
Been going to all kinds of concerts over 50 years. Thankfully I found Sparks this year. Wonderful music.
Damn I love this tune
Where has this band been all my life?? Fresh and unique way of understanding music! Bravo!!
Welcome to the wonderful world of Sparks ✨!
perhaps they're the only band of their era that continue making new music,, SPARKS IS THE GREATEST BAND EVER
Wowee Zowee 👍🏻 I'll add that perhaps they're the only band of their era that continue making relevant new music
Alice Cooper, Suzi Quatro, and Sweet are still recording.
Depeche Mode, Erasure and PSB still are
@@peterbrown9412, and they started their career 1971?
The year Sparks released their first album, as 'Halfnelson', their label made they change the name. That album was re-issued -72, now called 'SPARKS'.
Ron and Russell recorded their first music in January 1967, and one of the songs is on the 'Past Tense, the best of Sparks', released November 2019. It's called 'Computor Girl'.

Well, John Cale is still around, turns 79 next month. His musical career has never ceased to surprise with new musical ideas, due to his endless talent. But apart from The Sparks, John Cale and the late Johnny Cash, most musicians lost their creativity and knack to come up with great music in their older ages.
Thanks for your fantastic music I love the most ❤
Incredible
Been listening to Sparks for days, why did I never realise before how amazing they are????
Same! Just discovered them. Incredible
They were always there. For me, I think they were just "next door", if you get what I mean. My favourite band was there all the time, and over the years I just said "Hello" to them in passing. Now we're bessie mates and I can't live without them. Magical.
Somtimes we wake up and say oh yea I get now! Awsome!!!
Me to 😊
Holy..when? Why? Why haven't I been notified? I would have gladly set sail fom Nantucket for this. For any Nantucket at the Rhine. This is beyond the pale and better than it ought to be.
Welcome to the wonderful world of SPARKS!✨💖
I have only just found these guys. I really love the music they’ve made so far. I only wish I had heard them sooner!
Welcome to the Wonderful World of Sparks ✨💖!
I so wish more people would realise their incredible talent
What a track!💕💕💕💕 Loved Sparks since 1974 too!
Class is permanent!
This is an awesome thumping pop anthem with a terrific keyboard riff, and should have at least ten times the YT views.
Sparksoholic since 1974. The new album is everything that's awesome about Ron and Russ & this is one of the standout earworms going round and round my head at the moment. Love it! Thank you so much!
Epic song and video. Viva brothers Mael.
So happy to see the Mael brothers still kicking butt 😅
Bravo!
My favourite Sparks song from the Hippopotamus album!
This is one of the best songs of the new millenium, and has been done by a 50 year old (so underrated) band. Hope they will be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year, they largely deserve it.
Brilliant song.
An amazing masterpiece.............video and song. Wonderfull also the unplugged version.
In each song, a movie !!! Sparks transports us all the senses and involves us within her song. How is this duet not gaining more recognition ??? They are honest, innovative guys, ahead of their time, their music is elegant and very digestible. Her flawless figure, like male clothing models. Always on guard. I totally surrender to Sparks.
What a pandemic pleasure, dipping in and out of Sparks history and current delights like Annette. Though I reveled in Wonder Girl, as a little glam girl of 14, I was unfaithful over the years for sure. And now can see how Sparks infused so much of all the rest of the music I've loved has been. What a rare pleasure.
This is just sooo effin' lovely......
The song is lovely, the video is lovely......
And darn how I love these lovely & uniquely talented Mael bros
❤⚡
Heard tail end of this on radio 2 today .. didnt hear who it was by .. but loved it ... sparks ah man .. gotta love em .. real talent
SUCH a beautiful beautiful song. Bless you Sparks I love you so much. Xxxx
...Gasp...Saw them in Norwich, England last night. I've waited 43yrs since seeing them on TOTP for the first time and it was one of the best gigs I've ever seen! EVERYTHING I wanted it to be. Get tickets and GO!
I saw them in Leeds in May 2018 mine and my daughters' first Sparks concert. She only knew 3-4 songs but we both LOVED it.
That's a masterpiece!
One of the many great Sparks songs .....
What a Cracking song , first time I've heard this and I followed Sparks back in the day
pretty awesome song
This song is Aesthetic, surreal, melodious, nostalgic, strange, poetic. I bought my first Sparks records in 1974. 47 years later, their style continues to evolve with ever more genius and depth. (Message From a French admirer)
Swedish admirer agrees!
This is such a beautiful song, actually kinda a masterpiece, how did this band not become huge??
Americans are by and large basic and anti intellectual and anti art ...
Because you need to be smart to appreciate them - and most aren’t 😊
Bruh this music is stunning
Almost had me crying it was so good
everything about this is just so good.
So Cool!
Danke Sparks für die vielen wirklich schönen Lieder von Euch .
Habe Euch gerade wieder Neu Entdeckt ♥️
Ich Liebe Euch 👍♥️💕🇩🇪✌️
I like the energy of the Sparks, their fine musicality and the fact that they are francophile ! How couldn't they be since they are so sophisticated and elaborate ! Good for them, and good for us !
Fantastic x
Live fast die young... too late for that, too late for that 😍
Their music hits my heart and spread happiness to my body and soul. I have never felt this way before. Or maybe when I was 15-16 and discovered Kimono my house and Propaganda.
I've been through a lot of music with nine inch nails being my favourite contemporary band but i owe a lot to the Sparks and a few others for bringing me into music with Beat the Clock back in the days and this song is just so good.
This track is so good!!! Sparks just keep delivering the goods!
Great band with another classic.Sparks is the band that keeps on giving.Thank you Russell and Ronald.
Still got it. Thanks Sparks, been there from the start 👍
Remember the flyers from their mom at the fan club? Never knew it was from her until the 90s!
Outstanding video and an outstanding CD!!
ok got me fab song/band
this is spectacular music
Fabulous love this track and video
Extraordinaire, les Sparks savent tout faire, surtout nous faire du bien sans vulgarité
Le video et tres bon!! Complete with the little sparrow herself...
The most beautiful video I've ever seen
By Joseph Wallace, won the prize 'Best Music Video' at the 'Hollywood Art and Movie Awards', and another four prizes.
He also made stop motion animations for Edgar Wright's documentary on Sparks, 'The Sparks Brothers'.
This is definitely the best song on the album, I'm a new romantic at heart and this takes me back to the 80's, brilliant! Although not a good song to listen to loud in the car, breaking the speed limit is an issue
Oh my! I’ve just discovered this and it’s amazing!!!!!
Welcome to the Wonderful World of Sparks!
26 studio albums, released between 1971 - 2023.
The brothers Ron and Russell Mael are the backbone of the group, that has changed a couple of times during the years.
You hopefully have noticed (if you have kept digging in this rabbit hole, which I hope you have!) these guys never stop at one place, they keep on developing, and they present such a variety of songs on each album.
Pretty amazing, when you have over 300 songs in the catalog!
Their first recordings were made in January 1967, at a "rent-by-hour-studio" in Los Angeles, of only one is released; 'Computer Girl'.
It was on a B-side (if I recall correctly) on a single in Japan many years ago, and uploaded on YT.
When Sparks released the compilation album 'Past Tense (The Best Of Sparks)', they decided it was about time to give it a proper release.
It's the first song on the triple CD edition (followed by two or three songs from every album, ending with 'Hippopotamus').
'Computer Girl' is taken from their own vinyl copy of the recordings they made, hence the comment in the description on the album;
"Yes, it has scratches on it. Thank you." (Maybe something similar. It's been a long time since I read it!)
'Computer Girl', before the first "E-mail" was even sent from one computer to another!
If it had been about a ROBOT girl, it would have made sense, this was in the era of futuristic TV-series and movies, and robots were popular.
But Ron, Russell and their friends wrote and recorded a song about a COMPUTER GIRL!?
It is said many times that Sparks have been ahead of time, and in this case, DEFINITELY. About 15 years, at least.
The recording is what it is, and the slightly psychedelic tune has scratches, but as a part of history it's outstanding! Listen to the lyrics!
I can't tell if there is an underlying meaning or not, but hearing the words just as they are, many of us (not being 'hackers'😅) can recognize the feeling when that d__n machine malfunctions!
Such great and underrated musicians! This is for the whole wide world to hear!
The Sparks at their best like always!Venez en France sur scène,quand vous voulez ,je vous aime.
Sparks est sur scène pour quelques chansons lundi 4 septembre à la Cigale avec Catherine Ringer, mais ça doit être complet. J'y vais ! Espérons qu'ils fassent un vrai concert bientôt.
Dimanche 1er octobre à la Gaîté Lyrique, guys !
J'ai pris mon billet! Hier, à La Cigale, avec Catherine Ringer, c'était sympa, mais ils ont bien entendu chanté "Singing in the shower" et "Live in Las Vegas" qui ne sont pas terribles et "When I'm with you", chouette, mais j'aurais préféré "This town ain't big enough for both of us". J'attendrai le 1 er octobre pour l'avoir, en plus de la brillante "Edith Piaf"!

Unbelievable beauty!!! Bought my first records ever in 1974 (Propaganda and Kimono, my house) even though I hadn't a record player but I had a good neighbour. Sparks fan since then and now tickets for Den Haag (Netherland, sept 17) and Brussels (sept. 19). Can 't wait to see them!!! Thanks Ron and Russell for all those years of great and versatile music!!!
Oh this is so poignant and wistful, made me cry. A more pop oriented direction, but hey, Sparks always surprise. I have just seen the doco - hopefully now you will receive the the accolades and recognition that has been so hard won! Congratulations on your talent, perseverance, endless creativity and..and...Sparks said it better than me!
💯 percent exactly
Fanstastic song !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m just utterly in love with you, Mael brothers. Your music is just all I want to hear at the moment. Thank you.
The whole album is great. I remember seeing Sparks in the 70’s on Don Kershner’s Rock Concert weekly show.
I'm wowed (and so grateful) that they're still putting out great songs! Really enjoying the new album. Breath of fresh air from the contemporary shit my co workers inflict upon me. In fact the first lines make me think of those horribly turgid Adelesque, Sam Smithish, America's Got Talent sob story ballads for people so desperate to be slightly nudged to tears
Or just desperate.
absolutely brilliant as always! am listening their music for 40+ years and they never let down
A great song for driving in the city, taking your own course and direction. Nice after sunset too, with the city lights come on. Simply grand!
I was born on the same day as edith . Currently working cover of the spark , i really hope to meet them one day
So creative and beautiful ❤
I can't listen to this song or watch this video too much...it's perfect! Thank you, Sparks!
And Joseph Wallace! The video is amazing 😍
AGREE..THANK YOU, SPARKS..
TOP NOTCH!!
Fantastic song and band
