      I think that if you're physically able to run a manual bike, you absolutely should and would stay away from automatics.
      However, there are those that have disabilities and are physically unable to operate a clutch and or shifter. Autos would be good for them.

    I never thought about owning an automatic bike until this video. I didn't think that I'd like an automatic 4 wheeler either until I recently bought my wife a Yamaha 450 Kodiak. Now I want one 😂. It's awesome! That engine is amazing. It will climb anything (almost) and crawl down steep hills like nothing I've ever rode. I hardly ever touch a brake. Push button 2/4 wheel and diff lock. Anyway, I love driving on and off the black top. I've spent more time off road lately with my dual sport 250. The Africa Twin is a future goal for sure.

      Obiously you do jot do much off roading on the bike. And when I say off roading I am talking about more than an flat dirt road. This automatic transmission is the reason many don't take the bike seriously. I am think about buying one but obviously without the auto-trans. The new AT 1100 is even better fir what I hear.

      My second "Bike" is a 650 Bergman. The lack of a clutch is great. It's a great utility/ grocery getter and in general far superior in most respects to my VTX1800 (except for long highway rides). Of course the fact that I lost my lower left leg and shifting is a heel toe operation and a general pain in the ass now. All my cars were manual transmissions but that becomes more difficult to hover a foot over the clutch pedal while in town. Bravo for Hondas DCT! Ive been riding a while everything from 61 Triumph twins to GSXRs and I dont thing I would be missing much with a DCT bike for on road use.

    I never thought much about a auto transmission until I went to Italy and rented and rode a motorscooter for a week. It isn't bad, it doesn't detract from the riding experience at all and you can used your freed up senses to enjoy the scenery a bit more. If it is as reliable as Honda manual transmissions are I would gladly have one. The experience of riding any type of bike is about personal preferences not what any one else thinks about it. I bet this bike is a lot of fun to ride and that's what matters. I'm 65 now and my cruiser weighs 950 lbs and can be a chore to ride (especially at slow speeds) and I've been thinking and looking at lighter bikes.

      I can guarantee that. I took it for a hour long spin and with a little throttle it took me to 90Mph before I could even say COOL! Very smooth ride. The torque is great, you feel your arms being pulled forward. I had a grin all the way and before I knew it I was singing aloud (sign I'm really enjoying my ride).

      @Phil Myass 5'6" and 159 lbs.
      I just bought a 2019 AT 2 weeks ago, standard shifting. First day I rode it 370 miles from the dealership to my house, none of those roads interstate, mostly move twisting roads between Wyoming and Montana. Gorgeous drive and the bike handled like a charm. I opted flour the lower saddle which is 1 inch lower than the standard and quite comfortable. Yes it's a tall bike but experienced riders should have no problems. I DL recommend avoiding sudden stops so not to feel the full weight of the bike, riding it feels extremely light.

    How do you feather in the clutch and rev the motor for proper low speed stabilization? It's a very legitimate and often needed technique that will be lost with the DCT. I have a Bergamann 650 as one of my bikes and it's easy going but has a very low center of gravity and tiny scooter tires making maneuvering easy at low speeds. The AT is another matter.

    • @kitsachie.
      @kitsachie. 5 лет назад

      You have to ride the rear brake and give it a small amount of throttle to get the same effect. I haven't ridden the dct version yet but everyone I've talked to who has days it doesn't take long for it to feel natural. My only concern is the DCT isn't something I particularly need and it adds cost to the bike and weight

    Since this is an automatic transmission (DCT), is the maintenance on it more than a standard manual transmission? Thanks.

    • @kutykutyka
      @kutykutyka 6 лет назад +9

      Todd, it's just the regular oil change, and every 8000 miles changing the DCT filter as well. Not more maintenance than the manual transmission model. I really enjoy this bike. Since it does perfect shifts every time on its own, I'd say there's less wear on the parts than on manual gear box, where shifts can be missed or timed wrong at times.

    • @baham9217
      @baham9217 6 лет назад +3

      kutykutyka I appreciate the information. I never thought about it shifting more perfect than we do, but that would be somewhat less wear and tear. I believe Sean said he loved how the bike shifted, as well. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

      I've owned 10 motorcycles, some smaller some larger before I purchased my first DCT equipped bike, which was the 2013 Honda NC700x DCT, I really liked it, so I decided to trade in my Yamaha FZ10 for the Africa Twin and now I just enjoy the scenery, never get a cramp in my clutch hand. I do miss the clutch sometimes, but It's an occasional feeling. Maybe one day I'll have both. I've done a test ride on the Zero SR electric bike. Really enjoyed it too but they're very expensive and probably need to improve on the battery, charging, etc. to consider getting one in the next 5 years or so, and you're welcome. If you had any questions, I'd be glad to respond.

    • @baham9217
      @baham9217 6 лет назад +1

      kutykutyka You're answering any questions I had by telling me about all your bikes! My current bike is my first bike, so I have some catching up to do. I love to shift; I love the control that the clutch and manual transmission give me, but I could also see myself cruising with an automatic and just "enjoying the scenery." Not sure about the electric bikes, either. I agree on the range, that they'll need to increase miles per charge. I did read about BMW working with gyroscopes (like on the Segways) that will keep the bike balanced at stops; and another project that uses jet thrusters to help push the bike back up if it slips through a turn. There's some very cool technology out there that will make bikes safer and more enjoyable to ride.
