The fact that Ayano can literally just buy Senpai's mental health cheapens the trauma that the game is trying to draw attention to, pun retroactively intended. It seemed like the game was drawing attention to how Ayano's obsession over Senpai wasn't true, healthy love, but...well, selfish obsession. She doesn't love Senpai, she doesn't know Senpai, and she certainly doesn't consider whether Senpai will be broken up by clearing the obstacles in her way (which happen to be people close to Senpai). If all of this damage can be undone by buying some famous novels and giving them to Senpai, if Ayano takes actions that superficially seem lovely while still ruthlessly murdering Senpai's friends and family, all that thematic buildup is wasted.

Second, as implemented in the current demo, the gift-giving makes compensating for your murderous rampages too easy. Without them, each rival you kill, ostracise, or otherwise devastate is one more crack in Senpai's psyche. But with a system where you pay a little cash and make a little detour to repair those cracks, they go from being reminders of how Ayano has hurt the person she claims to love to being penalties you have to pay off. I hope I don't have to explain why the difference between those is important...

Lalinha Melo - HE didn’t spend 4 years on just Osana. He spent 3 years working on the GAMEs mechanics, then he worked on osana. So each character would only take about few months.

The fact that Ayano can literally just buy Senpai's mental health cheapens the trauma that the game is trying to draw attention to, pun retroactively intended. It seemed like the game was drawing attention to how Ayano's obsession over Senpai wasn't true, healthy love, but...well, selfish obsession. She doesn't love Senpai, she doesn't know Senpai, and she certainly doesn't consider whether Senpai will be broken up by clearing the obstacles in her way (which happen to be people close to Senpai). If all of this damage can be undone by buying some famous novels and giving them to Senpai, if Ayano takes actions that superficially seem lovely while still ruthlessly murdering Senpai's friends and family, all that thematic buildup is wasted.

Second, as implemented in the current demo, the gift-giving makes compensating for your murderous rampages too easy. Without them, each rival you kill, ostracise, or otherwise devastate is one more crack in Senpai's psyche. But with a system where you pay a little cash and make a little detour to repair those cracks, they go from being reminders of how Ayano has hurt the person she claims to love to being penalties you have to pay off. I hope I don't have to explain why the difference between those is important...
@@timothymclean Ok, I get the materialism concept in here. It's just that Ayano - at least currently? - doesn't posess enough courage to even talk to him unless the time came when she can confess. She can only show empathy indirectly.
Maybe YanDev can improve this by actually giving Ayano the ability to talk to Senpai (maybe befriending him?) instead of just this.

To be fair, the rivals are the bulk of the game's content, and any systems developed for one can be used for the others.
