@mauriciosamayoa3569 thanks for watching. I'm working on a whole channel makeover this year. Have a lot going on this year. Website publishing, new content, live streaming, online classes and much more.
Anticipating springback, what do you recommend for making bends in conduit using an angle that springback hasn’t been recorded for yet, such as a 10 degree, 22-1/2 degree, 30 degree, 45 degree, 60 degree, etc. The journeyman on my site already recorded springback for making a 90 degree angle bend in 4 inch EMT conduit on the hydraulic bender, but not any other angle bends. I’m bending a 38” offset using two 45 degree angle bends. 38” is my rise so my distance between bends is 53.58 using the multiplier for 45 degrees(1.41). What do you think would help me as a year two apprentice with finding what degree to bend my conduit too using a digital level on angles not yet recorded to anticipate for springback?
This is a great question. Listen, I started my little book of notes really late in the game. But you shouldn't. Everytime you bend a new size conduit, degree, or bender, you should always write down that perfect spring back degree. Now from experience I'm going to tell you that a good amount of spring back to account for if you don't know is 2 degrees on the hydraulic bender. On the electric bender it doesn't matter because you most electric benders has the chart on it. Now the mechanical bender has the almost the same spring back as the electric bender. This is my discord server link if you ever need some more info this is the best place to do that. discord.gg/33DTpP27
How often do you work with 3.5” emt? I heard they use it a lot in NYC? I just purchased a used 881CT with mobile bending table only plan on occasionally bending 2-1/2”, 3”, 4” EMT out on Long Island NY.
@@FronkG usually for a small degree like that. 1 to 2 degrees. But every bender is different. I recommend you grab a scrap piece of conduit and bend it to 22.5. Then measure it to see what you have. If you come up with 21.5 the. You know you must bend to 23.5 for a 22.5. I have a small book that I have now transferred to a PDF full of notes taken during my time as a journeyman. Take notes write down on anything later you can re-write your notes. Every time you bend say a 30 and it comes up wrong write it down so you know what you have to add. When you come up with a perfect 90 deg bend. Before you release the pressure switch check your ram ruler to see the measurement. This way you learn to bend without the digital ruler. When you bend a any type of kick say you bend a 10 deg. Keep kick when your done measure how far the measurement is from the front of the saddle to the center of the 10 deg. Kick that info is priceless to know in case you want to place a kick in the future in an exact spot you know the center measurement for a 10 deg kick. My point is take notes my friend. How do you find the multiplier when bending 2inch-4inch conduit on these electric benders? I can’t find anything online and it seems like the are different than the hand benders. I’m really confused
Your offset multipliers are the same. It's always the same for offsets. Now if you are talking about 90° bends then the deduct is going to change for every bender and size of conduit. 2.5 EMT - 21.5 deduct 3- 24 deduct 3.5- 27.75 deduct 4- 32.25 deduct And offsets the bend multipliers are the same. Although if you want the actual greenlee manual you can go to my Snapchat message me and I'll send you the file. Add me on Snapchat! Username: holmzlaw www.snapchat.com/add/holmzlaw
Your multipliers are the same for all conduit sizes. This is because your multiplier is based on trigonometry. When you have different size conduits and different benders you have to consider the radius of the shoe, because this will determine how close you can fit your bends together. Also the deduct for your 90 will vary by size of conduit. It's not a bad idea to chart your bender with the travel method and making you're the deduct is correct, and also finding centers of benders so that you can match bends consistently.
Well I haven't done the calculations but I think the spacing between bends will be too far apart to do an offset like that cause of the degree you chose. You would need to choose at least a 30° degree bend. If it has to be a 15° offset then you will need to learn how to bend on center. So you can make one bend, then flip the conduit to make the next bend. Or quite possibly you can just do it the standard way of bending without flipping it and just and a coupling and a piece of conduit to the conduit your bending so that it can complete the offset. Basically what I'm saying is that for your second bend there might not be enough conduit for your second bend to be completed. How you understand what I'm saying.
